Okay okay okay I'll take back what I said. It was a little dramatic.

I just want to ensure kids are back in school this fall and there are no lockdowns.

The only way to ensure this without another large scale outbreak is mandated vaccines, which nobody seems to want to do.

At this point I'd just say go ahead and open, but ban attendance for un-vaccinated, and fire teachers who refuse. A line needs to be drawn somewhere otherwise we'll just keep getting worse variants making a repeat of last year inevitable.

Indonesia and SE Asia are starting to climb.

https://www.watoday.com.au/world/asia/death-rates-surge-as-virus-hit-indonesia-confronts-oxygen-supply-crisis-20210705-p586z0.html

5 out of top 16 countries are in SE Asia now.

The USA was not in the top 16 countries yesterday.

The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 7/5 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'm keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day.

ΔW Change: Comparisons of Weekly Day-to-day Growth or Decline of COVID-19 Spread/Deaths.
  • IE: Comparing the numbers to the same day of last week, are we flattening the curve enough?

Σ Increase: A day's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE:What's the overall change in the total?

Brackets []: These represent the total change for the day, including backlogged reports, if any.
  • These numbers are inflated relative to the actual reports for the day, so they are not used to calculate the comparative percentage shifts.

Older Numbers (Hidden in spoiler mode to make the post more compact)

I know those low numbers are mostly because of states not reporting over the last two days, but they’re still encouraging once you look at them further. Everything dropping apart from Missouri.

I repeated Adam Griffin's exercise for the second time using data from July 04, 2021.

As of July 04, 54.9% of Americans have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination while 47.4% of Americans are fully vaccinated. This shows a gap of 7.5%.

As Adam Griffin said, "In my opinion (at least in most states' situations), a large & growing gap between the 2 groups is still good, as this indicates there is still high demand for vaccination and lots of people are continuing to get their first shots."

Alright so these are the gaps by state:

Image Link

States with data text too small to fit on the map:

Spoiler alert! Click Show to show the content.

States which have an above-average gap between the fully vaccinated population and the one-dose population are in blue and states which have a below-average gap between the fully vaccinated population and the one-dose population are in red (Sorry for the politically charged map but you see this scheme is color-blind friendly).

Interesting patterns abound.

I just dont care if the delta variant is vaccine resistant.

Keep everything open. This variant was probably created by teachers unions in order to avoid going back to the class room in the fall

Have you ever talked to a teacher? Like, a single one? NOBODY likes online schooling, especially them.
The only people he talks to are anti-vax clowns on discord at this point probably.

Then why are some unions fighting so hard against reopening? Why aren't they encouraging their own members to get vaccinated?

Obviously Jimmie is joking, and it's not particularly funny, but I think some teachers preferred online schooling. Otherwise they'd want it gone.

Is it just around them they make you mask? You don't have to wear it in your room I hope.

No, not in my room. But my stepmother reiterated to me what my father wants me to do this morning, and it's just compounding other issues I'm already facing. If he had gotten his vaccine by now, this probably wouldn't be an issue. And I still find it ironic, given that early in the pandemic, I was the one who was panicked, and he told me that I was overreacting and needed to calm down. Moreover, as I've said before, he is a two-time Trump voter, so that makes his views on this even more strange.

Adding to this today, I was out in the kitchen earlier, and my father came from the hallway. I wasn't wearing my mask, and he demanded to know where it was. I had to hastily put it on before he came into the kitchen. It's especially frustrating to have something like that happen on a day like this.

COVID-19 hysteria is a mental illness.

Based on new Mesa County numbers, it appears the vaccines have been about 75% effective if I did my math right in the county in the past two weeks.
With 81 cases in the past two weeks being fully vaccinated, and 577 being unvaccinated, in a county with a rate of 36% fully vaccinated.

Better than the Israel data, but still much worse than before.
Fears about the efficacy of Covid vaccines against delta are warranted and posters pretending this doesn’t have a major impact on efficacy are deluding themselves. This is a small sample size, and we will get more data over the next few weeks.
I didn’t include hospitalization or death prevention because when I calculated those, they actually were lower than actual disease prevention, which is almost certainly a function of the tiny sample size.

Pfizer vaccine only 64% effective against Delta variant (compared to usual 94%)

Sad!  That's the two I got.

In the paperwork I was given at the time of my appointments, it said Pfizer was the best, at like 98% efficacy (comparing them on a chart with the others)

Pfizer is 94% effective at preventing serious illness, which is what really matters.

Headline is misleading.

Anyways I'm sure the teachers unions will be pleased. Now they can keep kids at home forever.

This contradicts an earlier study which put it at 88% effective. Wait for more data on this.

Obviously I'd prefer it be higher, but 64% is still a whole lot better than 0%.

I'm also curious to know what the severity of illness with the vaccine is.  It seems that information would be just as useful as the transmission rate.

Nah

I'm a public school teacher in Tennessee.

We are in Summer, but we have made VERY clear that every student will be fully in person when school starts in August. Masks are optional

Mind you, most kids were in person most of last schoo year. Maybe 25% were online (watching live classes)

A good portion of online students

-did absoluelty nothing
-were special ed and learned nothing
-had really bad wifi and couldn't connect most days

Since the school district promised anyone who wanted could do online learning all year, we teacher were powerless when a special ed kid had no idea what he/she was doing. Or a bad student turned in 0 assignments.

All true but you're in a heavily Republican state, and interestingly school reopenings have been one of the few COVID related issues the GOP is better on. This is surprising because pre covid I always associated home "schooling" with the right. I worry about kids in blue states, and especially NYC with Adams all but guaranteed to win.

I feel bad for California kids and teachers

The teacher union has forced the LA school district (largest in country) to mandate masks, regardless of vaccination status ugh

What is this "usual 94%" claim? How much did J&J or AstraZenica pay you to pretend this drop is specific to one vaccine, or are you just that ignorant?

You regret something that'll reduce your chance of serious illness and death by 90%?

All that said this is further evidence that the Dems screeching with blind rambling rage claiming there's no reason to wear a mask are just as far gone into reality denialism as Trumpists were the last year of claiming the pandemic didn't exist in the first place.
