I find it hilarious how riled up folks are getting about the LAUSD and yet the story has barely made a blip down here.

Also, as the Midwest moves on and even though we have another 3 days before restrictions are dropped, the vast majority of folks here in SoCal are still wearing masks except in dining settings. I wouldn't be surprised if half of folks still wear masks for a few weeks after June 15.

Words fail me.

By her own logic, she's wrong because God wouldn't have created her.
So by her logic every fatal illness throughout history was created by man? I guess we have been massively underestimating how technologically advanced 14th-century Europe was if they were able to create the Black Death.

Edit: Citing your belief that evolution isn't real as justification for being against a vaccine is mindbogglingly stupid.

Not really. The vaccine is meant to protect the person who gets the vaccine from COVID, whereas the mask protects others around them. Just to plat it safe, I think that fully vaccinated people should still be required to wear masks indoors, just like unvaccinated people. Outdoors, I would feel comfortable not wearing a mask.

The CDC says fully vaccinated people don't have to wear masks anymore except in certain settings. So that's good enough for me. I don't wear a mask in stores anymore (fully vaxed).

I haven't had to convince anybody, because all of my family were sensible enough to get vaccinated as soon as they could. I know some work colleagues who won't but I'm not offering an opinion to them unless asked.

As for Greene, I guess she thinks sin brought things like Smalllpox and the Black Death into the world. Wonder how she explains the 6th Plague though. :shrugs:

Yeah, it’s funny how some people shout “believe scientists!” until the scientists tell them something that doesn’t confirm their priors.

The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 6/12 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'm keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day.

ΔW Change: Comparisons of Weekly Day-to-day Growth or Decline of COVID-19 Spread/Deaths.
  • IE: Comparing the numbers to the same day of last week, are we flattening the curve enough?

Σ Increase: A day's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE:What's the overall change in the total?

Brackets []: These represent the total change for the day, including backlogged reports, if any.
  • These numbers are inflated relative to the actual reports for the day, so they are not used to calculate the comparative percentage shifts.

I’m just not talking or seeing my grandmother or my aunt/cousins until they get vaccinated.
If they want to die without seeing me or speaking to me again, that’s on them.

I guess we respectfully disagree here. I will always remain a radical masker and will continue to get my  advice on COVID from Dr. Fauci, Dr. Leana Wen, Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding, and Dr. Jonathan Reiner, who are all strong mask proponents. I feel that masks are a low cost tool that helps vaccinated people protect unvaccinated people.

It's been so interesting to me how, I think in part because folks are doing less interstate travel, different regions' experiences of the pandemic have become completely unrelated to each other. Certainly here in New York State (at least, in Buffalo proper) is still wearing masks most everywhere indoors other than bars/restaurants, even without a formal mask mandate. Certainly many restaurants yelled and screamed and demanded Cuomo allow indoor dining, and churches have demanded indoor worship services, but I've seen and heard very little about "mask debates". People have worn masks and continue to. I'll be traveling to the Midwest next week for the first time since the pandemic started and am curious what it's like on the ground to be in a grocery store with maskless people.

There are plenty of sane people who have made the decision to stop wearing a mask, in line with the CDC's guidelines, and who also don't care about whether other folks who are vaccinated are wearing a mask. Quite frankly, I don't understand those who are hysterical about people putting a piece of cloth over their face to make them feel comfortable resuming normal life. I guess if you want to spend your time making people feel uncomfortable about a personal choice that does not negatively affect almost anyone (rather than, say, trying to get more people vaccinated), that's your choice.

Well, THAT's not going to help.

At this point, you're giving yourself anxiety more than anything. Masks are overall good and I'll probably continue to wear them in stores for a while out of general caution, simply because it's such a small thing to do, but it's important not to listen to alarmists who deny the fact that we're coming out of this pandemic fast right now.

For the record, the 7-day positive rate in the U.S. crashed to a record-low 1.74% on Thursday. But it did go up a little bit on Friday because of about 15,000 phantom cases on Corona Scanner.

I went grocery shopping without a mask for the first time last week. Probably half the store was maskless, and this is in the Reynoldstown area, probably one of the most pro mask parts of the state. It was wonderful to see, we have really turned a corner.

I don't think Fauci has directly contradicted the CDC on this? Unless you're assuming he disagrees because of what he said the day before the announcement. But that was a while ago.

I am actually not. I am very paranoid and anxious about COVID and don’t want to get sick or infect others if I contract it (though the risk of me getting it is low because I am vaccinated). The reason why I am anxious about COVID is because I had a moderately severe case of it last April and almost required hospitalization. I also knew a lot of people who either died of COVID or had a severe illness because of it.

BTW, I remember you were much more vigilant regarding COVID a few months back and shared the same concerns I have about it.

Probably until the COVID variants slow down and when cases go down to under 1,000 per day in the US.

He was changing his election maps daily alternating between Republican and Democratic 40+ landslides and changing his narrative to match, so at least there most of us got the impression he wasn't.

A judge has dismissed a lawsuit against Houston Methodist Hospital by employees who opposed a Covid-19 vaccine mandate as a condition of employment.

On Saturday, US District Court Judge Lynn Hughes ruled against Jennifer Bridges and 116 of her fellow Houston Methodist coworkers who sued to block the Covid-19 vaccination requirement. Houston Methodist Hospital moved to dismiss the case.

Bridges and her co-workers claimed the Covid-19 vaccines used in the US were "experimental and dangerous," and that it would be "wrongful" to be terminated for refusing the get vaccinated.
