On a personal note, I just got the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.  Georgia has been behind the curve on distribution but is starting to get better.

I got my first dose last week of Pfizer-BioTech. I get my second in the beginning of April. If we have to do it again at the end of the year.

With WI moving into the next phase, I’m getting my first shot on Monday.  Not sure if it will be Pfizer or Moderna.

How are you all getting doses? Here it's still not allowed for anyone under 50 unless you're in certain professions.

In Wisconsin, our next phase effective next week opens it up to various pre-existing conditions, including overweight/obesity.  In other words, some 2 million WI residents will become eligible.

Of course, it often takes some searching around for an appointment especially with the new influx.  I’m heading to Milwaukee from Madison as that’s where I got an appointment.  A number of people are making similar drives around the state to get their shots.

Well, that's one way for Palm Beach County to get Trump to abide by his agreement.

Actually maybe not, he doesn't care.

According to AARP, the Texas Covid plan also allows those with certain conditions to get it now?
Not sure but that’s what Google says.
Colorado is about to open it up for those with potential high risk conditions.
I have a neurological condition so I’m going to get it soon.

Regardless, most people will get their first dose in the next month imo. We are at the end of this hopefully.

In my case, it was underlying health conditions.

Oh yeah, you can get it for obesity here too. Alas I'm what can generously be called overweight after a big meal, but not obese.

In Georgia the current eligibility is certain professions, some medical conditions, or over age 55.  I qualified on age.

The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 3/19 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'm keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day.

ΔW Change: Comparisons of Weekly Day-to-day Growth or Decline of COVID-19 Spread/Deaths.
  • IE: Comparing the numbers to the same day of last week, are we flattening the curve enough?

Σ Increase: A day's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE:What's the overall change in the total?

Brackets []: These represent the total change for the day, including backlogged reports, if any.
  • These numbers are inflated relative to the actual reports for the day, so they are not used to calculate the comparative percentage shifts.

Today's one-day positivity rate was only 3.24%, the lowest since way back on March 4 of last year.

The 7-day positive rate would have been a record low if it wasn't for the 40,000 mystery cases on Wednesday.

The Covid-19 pandemic almost didn't happen, a new genetic dating study shows

Quote
The coronavirus pandemic almost didn't happen, a new study shows.

Researchers working to show when and how the virus first emerged in China calculate that it probably did not infect the first human being until October 2019 at the very earliest. And their models showed something else: It almost didn't make it as a pandemic virus.

Only bad luck and the packed conditions of the Huanan seafood market in Wuhan -- the place the pandemic appears to have begun -- gave the virus the edge it needed to explode around the globe, the researchers reported in the journal Science.

...

"It gives you some perspective -- these events are probably happening much more frequently than we realize. They just don't quite make it and we never hear about them," Worobey said.

I don't think it's inherently racist to call it the China virus; but Trump's intent was to disparage the Chinese, not identify the virus by region.

We aren’t “running even” if you look at the graph of deaths.  The purpose of vaccinating the elderly and vulnerable first was to prioritize reducing deaths over just reducing cases.  If we just wanted to reduce cases we’d have adopted a much different policy, probably involving vaccinating college kids first or something like that.

We’ve reduced deaths by almost 50% in the last 2 weeks!

Also, there has been improved testing capacity just in the past couple weeks. Friday was one of the biggest testing days of the entire pandemic.
