The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 3/13 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'm keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day.

ΔW Change: Comparisons of Weekly Day-to-day Growth or Decline of COVID-19 Spread/Deaths.
  • IE: Comparing the numbers to the same day of last week, are we flattening the curve enough?

Σ Increase: A day's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE:What's the overall change in the total?

Brackets []: These represent the total change for the day, including backlogged reports, if any.
  • These numbers are inflated relative to the actual reports for the day, so they are not used to calculate the comparative percentage shifts.

Almost like clockwork for the 24hrs after my shot, my arm stopped hurting. I had a bit of sore throat last night but I’m not sure if it was allergies or a reaction to the vaccine.

Was that your second shot?

I got Moderna.  My first shot was no big deal, just some arm pain.  The second shot...at about 12 hours later, I got a fever, really bad chills, and body aches.  I also could NOT sleep that night.  The next day, just the body aches remained.  The third day was just a slight headache until around lunchtime and then I felt normal again.

Small price to pay for having some protection.

It was my first. I’m a teacher so I became eligible Monday. I personally would have picked the J&J but I got the Moderna.

Met a vaccine skeptic dude online, easily convinced him the vaccine was safe with the argument that all of congress took it. I think this is the best argument for those who are just skeptical, full on conspiracy theorists will probably just say congress got something else.

I hope the vaccine immunity in people who got the shot in early on (December-February) will retain immunity during the time it takes to vaccinate that many people.

A bit off topic from vaccinations, but race/ethnicity data disaggregation is important when drawing conclusions about infection, hospitalization, and mortality rates. The same logic applies when deciding who should be vaccinated first.

https://whyy.org/articles/without-data-theres-no-equity-deficient-asian-american-covid-19-data-masked-community-wide-disparities/

‘Without data, there’s no equity’: Deficient Asian American COVID-19 data masked community-wide disparities

Quote
“It doesn’t matter if you’re from Kenya or Jamaica, you get categorized as Black,” said Yi. “But in New York, one of the largest immigrant communities here is the Carribean Black community. So it’s not adequate anymore to [ask for] race and ethnicity. We have to be thinking about country of origin.”

My sister was a skeptic until my mom and grandma got their first doses with nothing more than a slightly sore arm from it. Seeing is believing, and hopefully the possible fever from the second doses, when they get it, don't cause her to become hesitant again.

Similar experience with Moderna. First shot, my arm was super itchy. Second shot gave me the same fever/chills/body aches thingy. Second day I had a headache and body aches, third day I had a slight ache in my back and that was it.

Positivity rate is all the way down to 3.76%.

Also, I got my first dose of Pfizer on Friday, and in case anyone is wondering about the side effects, I did have to take a long nap afterward, but I don't know if that was because of the vaccine. I didn't have any other side effects.

Nice. I was expecting a red arrow, but we went below 42,000 for the first time since late Sept, early Oct.

Same thing with me and the J&J vaccine. Got it around noon Friday and by 8 PM, I felt very lethargic, achy & hot (no fever though). Was sweating a lot before & after sleep. Saturday was pretty much a headache & aches, but well enough to go for a walk. Outside of nagging soreness around the injection spot, I felt great on Sunday.

I'm glad I got it, but I feel really bad for my girlfriend. Shes been the most anxious about COVID amongst our friends, but she's likely to be among the last group to be eligble (Everyone else we know are either caregivers, teachers, hospital workers or food workers). Even more annoying because we've been taking lockdown seriously and everyone we know who've already gotten vaccines have been partying & eating indoors every week since March.

Yes I am going to worry about it because the last thing we need are lefties refusing to take Johnson and Johnson vaccines when about 1/3 of Republicans and 1/3 of minorities will refuse to take vaccines at all.

Where?  And what are the attacks?

I've seen some left politicians get upset that minority communities might not have Moderna or Pfizer as options when they get the vaccine since they have a higher effective rate. But I haven't seen anyone directly attack the J&J vaccine.

There have been religious criticisms of the J&J vaccine because its development had a closer causal relationship with aborted cell lines than Moderna and Pfizer, but I haven't seen anything from the left either.

Don't worry about it.....

There have been religious criticisms of the J&J vaccine because its development had a closer causal relationship with aborted cell line than Moderna and Pfizer, but I haven't seen anything from the left either.

Wasn’t there a right wing conspiracy that food companies were using “baby parts”? But yes. Some of these treatments, including the one that Trump received, are using embryonic stem cell lines in their development.

To me, we can talk about heartbeat laws, abortion bans, or whatever but these sort of arguments are slippery slopes to chilling novel medical research and contraception in general.

While as a Catholic I do think that the actions that initially produced these cell lines were morally wrong, taking medicines that are developed from them now is so far removed from those initial actions that focusing obsessively on specific abortions that occurred almost fifty years ago starts to feel disingenuous. The vaccines being morally acceptable because of the remoteness of the causal relationship is the position of the Vatican, but some ultraconservative bishops and lots of Online Catholic influencers have unfortunately staked out more anti-vaxxer-adjacent positions.

I believe there are Orthodox Jewish criticisms of the vaccines that work somewhat differently, but I'm not as familiar with them and I doubt I'd agree with them any more.

Speaking as someone who used to be part of that movement: that's the whole idea.
