The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 9/2-9/8/2021 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

From March 2020 to mid-July 2021, I kept track of COVID-19 numbers daily. Now that there's a light at the end of the tunnel and states are staggering their daily updates, I am switching to a mid-week to mid-week model (Thursday to Wednesday).

Wednesdays are ideal for weekly updates since holidays don't usually fall in the middle of the week, and most states would have reported some update by that day each week.

New Legend:

Δ Change: Comparisons of Weekly Growth or Decline of COVID-19 Spread/Deaths

Σ Increase: A week's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE:What's the overall change in the total?

You may access the archive of daily reports below, with the last daily update at the end, which was on 7/6/2021
.

Great. Another resident anti-vaxer. It's not surprising who it is, I suppose.

The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 9/16-9/22/2021 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

Well everyone, it finally happened. After over a year and a half of consistently reporting on COVID-19 descriptive statistics, enough work popped up that it completely eluded me to report on last week's numbers (I can't seem to find the stats for Wednesday 9/29 on the Worldometers website).

If someone knows of a way to access these numbers, I'd be happy to continue updating them. Otherwise, I feel fine letting this hiccup in continuity function as an indicator that, maybe, it is time to retire from this task.

It's been a long and slow haul, but I believe that the horizon is around the corner, if not right in front of us at this point. We might have a sense of normalcy by the end of this year or the start of the next.

We haven’t had a weekly COVID update in a while.

Yeah, I missing several days and the thread of numbers was lost. Plus, I haven't found the time with moving + new job!

If someone is willing to take it up, they are more than welcome to.

Here's an updated map of counties that have fully vaccinated 70% of the eligible (12+) population. Counties in white don't have data, or don't release relevant data. (VT publishes only 1st dose data by county. ID only releases data for all citizens and all adults, but not 12+. Blaine County, ID is at 70+% for all citizens, so it can be assumed they have hit 70% of all eligible.)

And the same map for Puerto Rico by municipalities:

Getting it done. Glasses

The U.S. could look a lot more like Puerto Rico, had vaccines not been politicized. It's a tale of two worlds.

I'm getting my Moderna booster next Wednesday.  Kinda nervous, given I felt so sick with my second shot.

But it's better than getting covid.

I got the booster about 3 days ago. I had a sore arm for the first two days, and that's it.

Hmm.. if this variant is highly transmissionable and less lethal..

Should we have covid parties to try to get to herd immunity?

Are you listening to yourself? This is dumb. Stop posting. I have so little patience left for stuff like this.

I'm on Camp 4.5 as of today. I believe that vaccinations should be required in workplaces and services that involve continued contact with members outside of one's household. Proof of vaccination for indoor dining and such should stick around for another month or two (at least in PR, we're over 80% fully vaccinated), but we should be phasing out of those, masks, and the like, within two months, barring anything paradigm shifting.

By the way, I know that you stopped keeping track of cases and deaths, but do you know what the present numbers are? Or where I could find them?

Nowadays, I reference https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ for general numbers, and I track vaccination rates at https://covidactnow.org/?s=28371717.

I still call it the South Africa variant instead of using these contrived code names.

Where do you think we are headed at this point? I'm been hearing some talk about how there will "more variants", and some seem to be convinced that restrictions will be renewed if we have another surge. Do you think that might happen, and what would the consequences be? I'm hopeful that we may finally be headed out of the pandemic.

An imminent conflict or war in Ukraine might be enough red meat to distract the media for long enough to have other variants come around and leave without so much as a peep.

Puerto Rico has lifted all COVID-19 measures and mandates (except vaccination mandates), effective this Thursday.
