The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 6/10 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'm keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day.

ΔW Change: Comparisons of Weekly Day-to-day Growth or Decline of COVID-19 Spread/Deaths.
  • IE: Comparing the numbers to the same day of last week, are we flattening the curve enough?

Σ Increase: A day's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE:What's the overall change in the total?

Brackets []: These represent the total change for the day, including backlogged reports, if any.
  • These numbers are inflated relative to the actual reports for the day, so they are not used to calculate the comparative percentage shifts.

Man I wish my vaccine turned me into Magneto.

I'm usually not one for stereotyping, but why is is that anti-vaxxers always seem to fit into the same kind of demographic profile, in terms of gender, race, and socioeconomic status?

Wealthy Boomers who retired years ago have no real problems to concern themselves with, have too much time on their hands, and are inexperienced when it comes to social media misinformation. It's sort of the perfect storm.

Several new counties have fully vaccinated 60% of their population today.
These are:
Lincoln County, ME
Grafton County, NH
Howard County, MD
Montgomery County, MD
Santa Clara County, CA

34 Counties in total have reached this bar.

Of these counties, 28 voted for Joe Biden while 6 voted for Donald Trump.

2 new counties (Broomfield CO and San Mateo CA) and the state of Vermont (done statewide because of the lack of data on NYT) have fully vaccinated 60% of their population.

With these additions, 50 counties in total have reached this bar.

Of these counties, 43 votes for Joe Biden, while 7 voted for Donald Trump.

The whole state of Illinois heads to Phase 5 today, meaning that all capacity limits are removed at the statewide level; however, local cities and establishments may still reduce capacity limits on their own volition.

This is utterly ridiculous...

LA schools are still going to require masks and testing every few weeks for all students and teachers for this upcoming fall, based on an agreement with the teacher unions and school admins.

You can still spread COVID if you are vaccinated. Also, the US will soon be dealing with the Delta variant, which is 5% more vaccine resistant than the Alpha variant and the original COVID wild type strain. I think mask mandates should be permanently in effect for that reason and also that if someone refuses to wear a mask, they should be denied medical care if they contract COVID and require hospitalization.

Not really. The vaccine is meant to protect the person who gets the vaccine from COVID, whereas the mask protects others around them. Just to plat it safe, I think that fully vaccinated people should still be required to wear masks indoors, just like unvaccinated people. Outdoors, I would feel comfortable not wearing a mask.

You're both wrong!

There is no evidence that people who are vaccinated can spread Covid, but there's limited evidence that they can't due to the short time frame for testing. A lot of people advocate wearing masks out of an abundance of caution until we know for sure, but vaccines generally keep people from spreading and I doubt that's a little detail that would have been left out.

I wouldn't say it's anti-vax propaganda, but the evidence in Israel and vax-heavy areas of the US makes it look very much like the vaccine stops spread.

Lol, “the mask” does virtually nothing to protect you unless its an N95 and even then, the vaccine is wayyyy more of protection than a mask is.  This is the mask cult BS on full display.

Has anyone here actually managed to convince someone who has vaccine hesitancy to get vaccinated?

I got no luck with my relatives in Alabama. (My mother is from Alabama)

I told them that the vaccine was developed when Trump was president and Trump himself is already vaccinated.

That didn't move them an inch.

My dad had the same issue, and I convinced him. He will be fully vaccinated as of next week. I stressed the extremely low likelihood of any significantly bad side effects against the much higher likelihood of COVID being either deadly or causing permanent damage.

As I've mentioned in this thread and others, I managed to get my sister to finally cave and decide to get it. Of course, her university requiring it for her to take in-person graduate school classes deserves much of the credit too.

I am having a hard time convincing her boyfriend to get it though.

I just got home from a nice little roadtrip centered on Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota. Lemme tell ya, COVID has been pretty much forgotten in most of the Plains states.

Very few masks were seen, even on store and restaurant employees throughout the trip, and even at the national park. Even most park rangers didn't wear masks. There was a nice little guided tour of the cave, and very few visitors wore masks. There was also pretty much no social distancing inside the cave.

So the Midwest moves on, while the Los Angeles school system drags along.

California as a whole, however, is ending its mask mandate on Tuesday. I believe it and Hawaii are the only two remaining states that still have a mask mandate in force, and Hawaii has been following California's lead with regards to coronavrius restrictions. Hopefully, the Los Angeles School District and other school districts around the country will discard masks before the year is out. Many of them have already done so.
