Again, we really need a new thread title, or a new thread in general. 162 pages is more than enough.

Yeah, I have no idea why the mods are so against it. It’s not that hard, and they’ve already done it 5 times

Somehow counterproductive actions have come back around to being productive. As I've always said, don't expect logic out of illogical thinking.

Wouldn't it be something if Republicans who are hesitant of the vaccine suddenly start championing masks and social distancing protocols now?

They should find a way to expose themselves to small amounts of these proteins in a safe manner so that their immune system can learn to protect itself better.

That's why that one school is asking the teachers not to get vaccinated. They think there's evidence that vaccinated people are emitting something that affects the reproductive system of others.

Yeah, the field of pyres are bad enough but it turns out things can be worse.

Here's a BBC article about Indian press trying to figure out the extent of India's undercount.  Spoiler alert....it's huge

Remember when everyone (but especially blue avatars) spent the past year attacking China for hiding deaths with far less evidence than what we have here?
Where is the outrage now?

The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 5/11 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'm keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day.

ΔW Change: Comparisons of Weekly Day-to-day Growth or Decline of COVID-19 Spread/Deaths.
  • IE: Comparing the numbers to the same day of last week, are we flattening the curve enough?

Σ Increase: A day's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE:What's the overall change in the total?

Brackets []: These represent the total change for the day, including backlogged reports, if any.
  • These numbers are inflated relative to the actual reports for the day, so they are not used to calculate the comparative percentage shifts.

Older Numbers (Hidden in spoiler mode to make the post more compact)

Yes, gross underestimation of what is going on, especially in poor rural areas. They don't have the social infrastructure in place.

"The brutal wave of COVID-19 infections has spread from the cities to small towns and the countryside, ripping through a fragile health system ill-equipped for a crisis of this scale.

In the capital, New Delhi, many COVID-19 victims are abandoned by their relatives after cremation, leaving volunteers to wash the ashes, pray over them, and then scatter them in the river — rituals usually conducted by the family."

Anyone else notice a difference between working-class areas and rich areas on masks?

I'm in a blue-collar urban area, and masks never really caught on. Even at Kroger, people bop around without masks. I've been to small towns and rural counties on roadtrips where masks are even less common.

But in a rich suburb just a few miles away from here, everyone wears a mask. You'll see some 6-year-old entering a restaurant wearing a mask.

I haven't been outside a metro since this all started and compliance has been very high both in the city and suburbs with the exceptions of some bars.  As for what goes on in rural America right now, I couldn't tell you.

Attention Biden and CDC:

Anyways, who are the audience CDC tries to appeal to? It seems like the ones who are already vaccinated and who would wear mask outside even on a desert island...

If media wasn't unbiased, it would be a big fat catastrophe for Biden. But they aren't, so it isn't.

Thanks to Trump, Biden inherited one of few large nations that basically almost didn't have [compared to the rest of the world] that many constrains on amount of the vaccines. The only thing he needed to do is to deliver and to convince those who hesitate to take them.

Biden/CDC/Fauci has failed miserably so far.

  • Science says you don't need masks (and never really needed outside any way) and mostly can get back to normal, once you're fully vaccinated.
  • People say, that "you'll still need mask"/not being able get to normal discourage them from vaccinating themselves.
  • Real data says, it is the way.

Stil, Biden wears mask when outside  🤷‍♂️ and Fauci, while nuking trust in J&J, defends CDC's anti-science guidelines that say 3-years old children to wear mask in summer camps... You f**king kidding me? 🤷‍♂️ And I'm not talking about all the Dem-run states that still keep minority kids out from schooling...

By the way, the other nations are Israel and Britain. UK had *same* share of vaccine hesitant people in November, but by having a clear and fairly simple re-opening plans they managed to deal with that. Israel has waaay more problem than US and UK ever did.

I mean, f**king Israel!! Ortodox Jews are like the most crazy religious lunatics in the Western World. If Bibi managed to persuade them, Biden surely can persuade anyone.

But he needs... To Start. To follow. F**king science. And present a simple plan for getting back to normal.

Yet, despite all this, Biden is/was sitting on tons of vaccines, while poor non-white countries desperately need them... Hm. Hmmm.

Most of the vaccine hesitant are republicans, it's a bit harder to persuade them so it's not as straight forward as you make it out to be

Yes, most are republicans. But only by following the science that is allowing the fully vaccinated people to stop wearing mask, you'll get an 18% points increase among unvacinated republicans. Ten millions of people. By introducing one *very* simple and safe promise.

And if you relaxed even more constraints, you'd likely get even larger increase. Like allowing attending sport, religious or other events and what not. Though, perhaps, it's already too late. As it getting better, as the states open up anyway, some will probably get even more reluctant to vaccinate themselves. Should've been implemented a 1-3 months ago.
