And very good news about the masks! I've already been going maskless on my neighborhood walks, only putting one on when someone walks past me.

I'll still be wearing one when I do indoor shopping. At least until mid-June

Some good news on the California front. Especially after the disastrous surge we had had this past fall:

LA Times: In dramatic turnaround, California now has the lowest coronavirus case rate in the U.S.

Quote
Months after a coronavirus surge sickened hundreds of thousands of people, left thousands dead and pushed hospitals to their breaking point, California’s virus case rate is now the lowest of any state in the nation, federal figures show.

Although the distinction doesn’t lessen the heavy toll exacted by the fall-and-winter wave, it does demonstrate the tremendous strides the state has made in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic — progress that, to this point, has not been interrupted even as the state more widely reopens its economy.

For the record:

9:34 AM, Apr. 27, 2021An earlier version of this article reported that Dr. Mark Ghaly, the California Health and Human Services secretary, said that until October diners should probably eat outdoors at restaurants. Ghaly said people will probably prefer dining outdoors at restaurants instead of indoors until that time.

California’s latest seven-day rate of new cases was 32.5 per 100,000 people, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Over that same period, Hawaii had the second-lowest rate, at 36.8, and the nationwide rate was 114.7. California has for weeks reported one of the lowest case rates in the nation — though the top spot had remained largely out of reach.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-04-26/california-lowest-coronavirus-case-rate-nation

This kind of news is the reason why the recall against Newsom is doomed to failure. By the time the recall is actually held, the coronavirus situation in California will be even better than it is now, and vaccination rates will be much higher.

Thank you, Scranton Joe!

One more month for me! Maybe this news will encourage people to get fully vaccinated, or hell, vaccinated at all. That and free Krispy Kreme Donuts.

However, how will we be sure who has been vaccinated or not? Will we need to carry around our CDC vaccination cards until vaccine passports become a reality? It's not an inconvenience to me, but I'm sure that people will abuse this or consider it a burden.

That's why I'm not the biggest fan of this "As soon as I get vaccinated, f*** masks & f*** restrictions" mentality. I'd say it'd be easier to just show your vaccine card everywhere you go, but they're not exactly hard to forge.

And for the record, I'm glad the outdoor guidelines have changed. I'm still gonna wear one when I'm out indoor shopping (at least until mid-June).

Was already addressed a week ago (And many more times prior):

There’s no need to close this thread altogether (we don’t need a new one really) or rename it (title is creative and technically accurate). Stop requesting such.

It's wrong.

It's not accurate, it's outdated. And this thread title was being changed all the time, or closed and restarted for a new version, now it's stuck on this really outdated news? Really? Someone can come up with another inventive name.

You're not wrong. But at the same time, it's just a name. Who cares?

I do. So have the several others who liked my previous posts bringing it up. It's so easy to change. Why not change it?

The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 4/27 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'm keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day.

ΔW Change: Comparisons of Weekly Day-to-day Growth or Decline of COVID-19 Spread/Deaths.
  • IE: Comparing the numbers to the same day of last week, are we flattening the curve enough?

Σ Increase: A day's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE:What's the overall change in the total?

Brackets []: These represent the total change for the day, including backlogged reports, if any.
  • These numbers are inflated relative to the actual reports for the day, so they are not used to calculate the comparative percentage shifts.

Pfizer #1 gave me several side effects. Major headache, dizziness etc. Which made me scared about Pfizer #2..

Pfizer #2 gave me zero side effects whatsoever and if anything I feel much better than I have in a very long time after being injected with Pfizer 2.

Seems like the vaccine campaign is slowly switching from "get vaccinated so you don't get sick" to "get vaccinated so life can get back to normal." Probably a good strategy considering that the Dems and Indys on the fence tend to be younger. Also, a third to a half of Republicans just aren't gonna get it no matter what so no point trying to convince them.

I just got my second dose of Pfizer yesterday. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with a sharp pain in my stomach but today I feel fine other than soreness in my arm.

I remember when Michael Jackson made his kids wear masks it was the liberals calling it abuse and the conservatives calling it parental freedom.

If adults want to wear masks outside, that's their choice, and I can't stop 'em.

But if anyone physically forced a mask onto any child of mine, I'd see them in court.

That doesn't happen. You're just asked to leave if your kid won't wear a mask.

Yeah, I got my second Moderna this weekend and the side effects were worse on the first shot weirdly enough.

Among people I know the range of effects has been all over the map regarding onset, duration, severity, which dose is worse, etc. this is true for both Pfizer and Moderna.

Cases in the U.S. are in another sustained decline. Today the 7-day positivity rate is 3.65%, which I think is another record low.

I have a feeling it may not be too much longer before the 7-day average drops and stays below 50K.

I have a feeling it may not be too much longer before the 7-day average drops and stays below 50K.

In only 2 days, it's fallen from 56,095 to 53,654. the lowest since Oct. 14.

India just came in at an eye-watering 386,452 new daily cases with many cases going undiagnosed in the country.

The corollary of record breaking cases will be felt in 3 weeks time.

It does not look like they have the necessary social infrastructure to back out of this one.
