This is why we have congressional oversight:

Investigators say a Trump aide took it upon himself to award hefty pandemic contracts.

Quote
The Trump administration was so slow to prepare for the coronavirus pandemic that a top aide to President Donald J. Trump took matters into his own hands.

That aide, Peter Navarro, Mr. Trump’s deputy assistant and trade adviser, personally steered hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts for pandemic supplies to politically connected or novice companies, a preliminary investigation by House Democrats has found.

Mr. Navarro sounded an early alarm about supply shortages, according to emails and other documents released by a House committee overseeing the federal coronavirus response. In a memo dated March 1, 2020, he complained that “movement has been slow.”

After that, documents show, he prodded the Federal Emergency Management Agency to award a $96 million sole-source contract for respirators to AirBoss Defense Group, a defense industry supplier, telling a company executive “everything you requested is OK,” even though no contract had been signed.

It appears that today worldometers recorded fewer covid deaths (270) in the US than any day since March 23, 2020.  Last Easter Sunday had 1771 deaths by comparison.

Only 33 states have reported their numbers. PA's numbers are low because Philadelphia County doesn't report their numbers on the weekends.

Obviously the numbers are lower on a holiday Sunday than a normal day, or even a normal Sunday.  Which is why I posted the comparison to Easter Sunday a year ago.

The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 4/4 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'm keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day.

ΔW Change: Comparisons of Weekly Day-to-day Growth or Decline of COVID-19 Spread/Deaths.
  • IE: Comparing the numbers to the same day of last week, are we flattening the curve enough?

Σ Increase: A day's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE:What's the overall change in the total?

Brackets []: These represent the total change for the day, including backlogged reports, if any.
  • These numbers are inflated relative to the actual reports for the day, so they are not used to calculate the comparative percentage shifts.

Suicides were also down here in Austria last year, to the lowest level ever.

The big increase in heart attacks or strokes last year has been attributed to people being more reluctant to visit hospitals or doctors after such symptoms, out of a fear of infection there ...

Injury deaths were also up, because people renovated their homes or tried out new sports on the outdoors.

My guess was going to be all of that PLUS people are packing on the pounds. That would explain the diabetes.

Given that South Africa has struggled mightily with HIV/AIDs over the past thirty years, I'm not surprised that they are struggling with their response to this current pandemic, which has only compounded their existing problems.

Why are Biden and Harris still wearing masks inside the White House since they and all of the others there are vaccinated?

Probably to set an example, since there are still a lot of people who haven't gotten vaccines yet. But when we get to the point where everyone who wants a vaccine can get one, we can start ditching masks.

I think they think that, but at this point if you're not wearing one you never will and if you are you will continue to do so.  It's just theater.

I know this guy is a moron but has he never been to another country? At least most tropical countries make you show a vaccination card to get in. There’s no difference between Honduras making me show a yellow fever vaccine than there is Greece and a COVID vaccine.

Had my second Moderna shot last week. No symptoms except a sore arm for 1.5 days.

The reactions are really random but get your shot asap!

They inherited Trump's Vaccine Machine. Then they lowered the vaccination plan so they could later pretend that they could speed things up. You can't tell such a lies with a straight face. You'll need a mask  Mock

No?

There's plenty of people who still usually wear a mask but are close/willing to stop.

This part is true. For almost a year now, I've been making note of maskless customers at my own job. The number has remained at around 20% for months now, although there are signs of an uptick. Some of the maskless are habitual customers who I've never seen wear a mask throughout the entire pandemic. They're not going to start now.

I've said repeatedly that The Home Depot does not enforce the mask mandate, as we employees have been specifically told not to confront or deny service to those who are maskless.
