I live in Texas right now, so I learned that next week they are lifting the mask mandate!

I'm excited and worried. This could help with the herd immunity, but it might also lead into more deadly cases.

Homie knows that he finna keep slipping in the karen burbs, and he tryna get the same valley swings like Trump among the mask hating mexicans to offset those losses. Purely political move.

Like srsly, I am pissed off rn, i see like 4 mexicans working in my next doors neighbors yard with 0 distance apart and no masks, those people hate masks, I am no longer surprised at all they swung like 30pts in the valley towards Trump

Only 13% of Texans have received any vaccine dose, and cases are at similar levels to the start of the third wave (hospitalisations are higher). This won't end well.

Ok so... Mexicans shouldn’t be blamed for Abbott’s dumb bitch decision and just because you saw four of them not wearing a mask one time, doesn’t mean they all hate it.

That's one piece of the puzzle. It's not a coincidence they swung massively towards trump almost everywhere

Why won't God answer my prayers for another snowstorm in Texas. The first answered prayer was clearly insufficient.

Nah. I think he's worried that the Biden Administration's COVID-19 response is going too well, so he and his fellow Republican governors have decided to kill a few hundred-thousand more of us to make Biden look bad.

I get your frustration...but think of how this sounds...
You can't base your beliefs of all Mexicans on four people.

It seems like more of an education divide, which would explain why those working blue collar jobs like that would be less likely to wear masks.

(FWIW I do think RGV Tejanos are swinging towards Trump partially due to anti-intellectualism (which I call dumb*ssery) similar to many other rural people such as WV)

dude, they swung massively towards trump, they are the most unmasked group I see, and I can pull up the stats, but they are contracting covid at a way higher per capita rate than even black people in dallas county. No bueno.

Stupidity and lack of empathy are the only two categories Republicans have room to grow with at this point. That's how they made gains in 2020.

These people hate masks, idk what their problem is, but somehow they are suffering way more than even black people.

Almost like Governors and state legislatures bear the brunt of responsibility for COVID spreading in the states, and the Trump killed ____ amount of people talking point was nonsense.

At this rate I'd say anyone thinking Abbott will win re-election by double digits is a little too confident in him.

I don't think Beto (or any democrat whatsoever) will beat him, but it could be closer than some expect. There's gonna be so much money poured into the democrat's campaign that it'll be embarrassing when they lose.

The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 3/2 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'm keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day.

ΔW Change: Comparisons of Weekly Day-to-day Growth or Decline of COVID-19 Spread/Deaths.
  • IE: Comparing the numbers to the same day of last week, are we flattening the curve enough?

Σ Increase: A day's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE:What's the overall change in the total?

Brackets []: These represent the total change for the day, including backlogged reports, if any.
  • These numbers are inflated relative to the actual reports for the day, so they are not used to calculate the comparative percentage shifts.

Older Numbers (Hidden in spoiler mode to make the post more compact)

Biden very quickly earning his place as one of our greatest presidents.

Now this doesn’t mean every adult will *be* vaccinated, or that some of those vaccines won’t expire and we’ll need new ones. But it seems like at least at the national level supply issues will be a thing of the past.

The governor of Texas said the virus is still here even while removing all the restrictions. His reasoning, flawed or not, is that Texans know how to deal with it now, not that the pandemic is over.

Needless to say I disagree with Abbott, but you see the same elsewhere in America and the world. A pandemic can also be "over" when society declares it over and just gets tired of restrictions and is willing to take more victims.

The U.S. will reach herd immunity by the end of May, and the vaccination program should rap up by the end of the summer.  It is long overdue for things to go back to normal.  The spread of variants won't be an issue with key populations vaccinated.

It's fascinating that the pandemic has now come full circle and the two states with the highest number of average new cases per capita are once again New York and New Jersey.

Even by this logic then you can't think it's "over" until May, which is still 2 months away...
