He just pulled the plug on any relief bill until after the election. The dumb mother finkser. Why is he so bad at populism??

Wow. So much crazy to unpack there.

How does he think he's going to get something different after the election, with either this Congress or the next?

I wonder how Republican Congressional leadership feels about being referred to by Trump as "my representatives"?

There's the gaslighting ("not negotiating in good faith").  The obvious lies. There's an ongoing COVID-19 wave in the Midwest and Mountain West. The presumption that a loss is impossible. That's he's bailing on helping Americans in favor of pushing an unpopular, rushed nomination.

And then there's the fact that the market he's bragging about tanked in response to the tweetstorm.  (I wonder who in Trump's circle may have shorted the market earlier?)

I think this sums up the month for Mr. Trump so far:

Still four weeks to go! (Hopefully we can avoid any national or planetary nuclear Elmo's, but I'm not going to hold my breath.)

At this point, I have to wonder if it might be appropriate to impeach Pence for failure to invoke the 25th Amendment when it needs to be.

More seriously, the only way I can see how even Trump might think he's making a good political move concerning the stimulus is if he somehow thinks he can use the stimulus after the election to steamroll the Congress into approving his contested election.

Speaking of that, where even is Mike Pence?

POTUS is in a drug-induced delirium tweeting Russiagate conspiracy theories from bed.

Half the West Wing has tested positive for COVID-19 and is presumably now at home. The Joint Chiefs have it too.

If China were to launch a nuclear attack against us, or terrorists were to execute a 9/11-type attack, could we even respond? Is there any non-incapacitated person in charge of our government right now?

There have been several schools in my area (El Paso County) which have been forced to suspend classes or transition to online learning because of coronavirus outbreaks. And one of the colleges here-Colorado College, which is a private liberal arts school-has moved to online learning for the rest of the semester as well, after hundreds of students were forced to quarantine because of a series of positive cases on campus. Given all of this, it's astonishing to me that we still have so many people disregarding the coronavirus precautions, and the numbers seem to be increasing as we move forward into October. At my job today, I've noticed that the number of maskless customers has increased, and it is now approaching 20-25%.

Polis' mask mandate has now been in force for almost three months, and I expect it to be extended again in due course. But many people have shown that they just don't care, and there is only so much that mask mandates can do to induce compliance. Trump supporters seem to be particularly complicit in defying the order. Yes, most of them have been, and are continuing, to wear masks or facial coverings. I've lost count of how many "MAGA" or "Trump" masks, faceshields, facial coverings, etc. that I've seen at this point.

But others are refusing to do so. Last week, I had a maskless customer who was wearing a shirt that said "All Black Lives Matter, including those who aren't Socialist, Totalitarian Democrats." I had another maskless customer today wearing a shirt that said "Infowars.com" on the back and "Trump is my President" on the front. As I've said before, Trump's downplaying of the pandemic and his months-long refusal to wear a mask has had a permanent effect, one that will be difficult to overcome after seven months.

Very few people care about what "Hanoi Jane" (as she's been referred to by Vietnam War veterans for decades) has to think-although it is true that this pandemic has been politicized by far too many, and with unfortunate consequences. Virtue-signaling "doomers" and mask-averse virus denialists both fall into that category.

Oh yes, I love Covid-19.
Clearly I enjoy the fact that our president killed 200,000 people, I just love worrying for my own life, I just get such a high off of watching the World suffer. Seriously just shut the f**k up. You have been so consistently wrong on the trajectory of Covid-19 and the efficacy of masks, you have no reason to post anything here anymore.

It’s telling that you care more about what some hippie old fart thinks than about the thousands of people who have lost their lives and the serious repercussions of this pandemic. We can argue and disagree on the best way to fight the pandemic, but your constant denial of the seriousness of the situation is getting older than your “I am totally still a moderate Republican” act.

Given what passes for "news" in this thread and all across USGD, what Jane Fonda says re: COVID-19 certainly makes the cut for post-worthiness.  I don't care what she says, but very few people here care about "who" says something as long as conforms to their pre-existing worldview.

The fact that you believe our president is personally responsible for the deaths of 200k people just proves that you are not a serious poster, and you never have been on this issue.  Extended lockdowns, school closures and other such restrictions are highly damaging, unsustainable and worse than the disease itself.  Continued insistence on these measures and "social distance" has probably permanently hampered the resiliency of our country and communities.  At every step of the way, you have refused to treat COVID as what it is - a manageable public health problem, and instead defaulted to the politics of fear and death obsession.

When have I ever said COVID was fake?  Is the public response to it in large part a political overreaction?  Yes, but that doesn't mean it isn't a real disease

Fine, our president’s lack of a cogent response towards the pandemic from Day 1 and in some ways what he did before Day 1 has killed hundreds of thousands more people than it should have.
Of course, as usual your selective reading disorder kicked in again. I said there is room for argument over how we can fight the problem, and that would include the merits of lockdowns and school closures. That is a separate debate from your repeated downplaying of this virus as a whole on this forum.
At the very least, basic social distancing when possible in an open economy and mandatory mask wearing should be bipartisan. You talk about the politicization of the virus, but you and others like you were the ones who politicized these easy measures for months because it fit your political goals.

I have many times talked about ways we can fight the virus while reopening in a safe and controlled manner, and no amount of gaslighting on your end will change that. I have not advocated for complete lockdowns without proper reopenings like you seem to believe in your head.

My plans have always been to reopen safely, to maintain a balance between managing the pandemic and the economy, and to ensure we are taking measures that will allow us to stay reopened as long as possible. They are not, nor ever will be perfect, and I am more than happy to change my mind on how to reopen and protect lives, if given enough solid reasoning and evidence.
Your plans have been to completely disregard social distancing, to reopen near everything without a second thought, and to question the basic science behind mask wearing for months on end. If you gave one f**k about the economy, you would condemn super spreading events for making this whole nightmare worse and would condemn large gatherings and parties whenever possible. You don’t care about the economy, just admit it.

Yes I have been a bit extreme at times and I am willing to own up to my faults, but you aren’t the voice of reason, you are the voice of delusion.

An explosive new documentary details how Jared Kushner's coronavirus task force consisted mainly of 20-something volunteers buying PPE with personal email accounts

Similar allegations were made last month:
‘It was a government of chaos’: Kushner’s coronavirus task force whistleblower says he was pressured to ‘fudge’ death data model
Quote
Mr Kennedy said that he decided to join Mr Kushner’s team of volunteers after a friend recommended it to him, and did it because he thought it “didn't seem political.”

However, when he started the job, he realised that the group of around 20 volunteers had no experience of sourcing and buying medical supplies, and were made up of people from various different fields.

He also told Ms Meyer that he believed he was joining a group of volunteers that would assist another team working on procuring the supplies, but quickly found out that was not the case.

“We were the team,” Mr Kennedy said. “We were the entire front-line team for the federal government.”
