The good news is that we have made historic progress on a vaccine for a virus we didn’t even know existed just a year ago.
This does show that our scientific community really can achieve incredible feats when they collaborate.

Also, hopefully Covid makes people more aware of potential pandemics in general.
One thing I have been concerned about for years is the lack of new antibiotics and the accompanied increase of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. If Covid forces us to actually pay attention to these types of health issues, it will have been a net benefit in the long term.

Did you hear about Polis' diagnosis with coronavirus? And do you know if there's been any other governors recently who've gotten it, besides him?
Of course, I think most people in Colorado know about it at this point.
Truthfully I am apathetic towards the news.
I’m sure other governors have contracted it but to be honest I haven’t tracked that.

If governments actually had balls, they'd make the big corporations that are makimg HUGE profits during COVID pay their fair share of taxes. Maybe then it won't take 60 years to pay off the debt.

Either way, the fiscally responsible aproach to economies is - and has been - spend during the bad times and pay off debts during the good times. It is not only smart to operate this way, but necessary: without the extra spending during a crisis to boost the evonomy and make sure consumers can buy basic needs, the economy will be even worse off, making it even harder to pay off debt as everybody suffers.

Think of COVID emergency spending as a necessary investment in the economy to prevent problems even bigger than debt.

Dealing with stuff like MERS(a deadly virus that is rare and spreads from camel to human) might be easier too.

Honestly I am of the opinion nurses should walk out nationally for a few days.
It’s clear the American people don’t care about their lives, so why should they be forced to go into a war when the American people spit on them?
This is worse than how we treated our Vietnam vets, and that says something.

I know it’s awful, but they should make it clear we need politicians to acknowledge the severity of this virus and to have mask mandates in every state.

They are too nice to do it, but I wish they grew a spine because clearly they are being abused by the GOP as if they were useless pawns.

The suffering and death is the point.
That will be the leverage that is used against politicians and the American idiots.
It’s a small sacrifice for the greater good.

This is the point where some people would have a "road to Damascus" moment and realize that perhaps, yes, you are the bad guy here.
It’s necessary for the betterment of our country.
I am not here to pretend life is all roses, I am here to fight against the virus and the American traitors, knowing full well that some deaths are inevitable in our fight for the people.

This is the only way we can get some real action on the virus, otherwise nurses will continue to be society’s punching bags. Our troops deserve better, and it’s time to show America what happens without them.

I do not endorse any unecessary death, but I do acknowledge that without an actual cost, the American people and the GOP will continue to abuse our healthcare workers. The question is whether they will stand up for themselves, and for this country's future, even if it is vile on paper.

The CDC is reducing the suggested quarantine time for those exposed to covid from 14 days to 7 days with a negative test or 10 days with no test, presumably trading off a slight increase in risk for higher compliance.  Other countries have already made similar moves.  I'll be honest; when I was potentially exposed in late October, I quarantined 11.5 days (plus a negative test) before resuming my normal life.  In fact, after almost 12 days and a negative test, I was more confident I didn't have it then than I am on any random day where I feel fine (note, I wasn't under a legal quarantine order, but was just trying to do the right thing).

New case numbers looking bad today as the testing has started to ramp back up post-Thanksgiving. Hospitalizations at a new record nationally, too.

The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 12/1 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'm keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day.

  • IE: Comparing the numbers to the same day of last week, are we flattening the curve enough?

Σ Increase: A day's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE: What's the overall change in the total?

Love how Minnesota, the ultimate good governance, high social trust/compliance liberal haven out of all 50 states in this country is about to take over the top state in 7 day trailing case total.

But it was totally Kristi Noem and anti-mask Dakota Republicans responsible for South Dakota's outbreak, right? Not the normal weather pattern at all! Smiley Smiley Smiley

A five minute check of the WaPo web site indicates that Minnesota tested almost four times as many people in the last week per capita than SD to achieve the same per capita rate of cases and given SD sky high positivity rate they definitely should be testing more.  Also, the counties in Western Minnesota are racking up huge positives right now frequently twice that of the Twin Cities, so yes the Gov probably should have shut down the border with North and South Retardia and ordered the guard to shoot anyone trying to pass through (RIP BRTD) but then,  the people in Western Minnesota are generally as dumb as the Dakotas and then you have the whole border with Dumb Ass Iowa to consider.

Anecdotally, earlier this year when Iowa got hit with outbreaks in the meat packing plants, i didn't hear much about it from Mom in our calls, because we really don't know the people who work in the plants.  Now, our weekly calls involve about 30 minutes hearing about relatives I barely remember and their relatives and their nursing homes that are all up into COVID.  So, this round does seem different and definitely seems much more rural/whiter than early this year--at least so far.

In sum, your first (or most recent) attempt at epidemiology seems to be a bit lacking.

Do you love how South Dakota lost over 0.1% of its population in a month?

SD has a positivity rate of 41% (was over 45% at some point). That is third, after ID and IA. MN has a positivity rate of 10.5%. Basically, the outbreak in SD is far worse, even though both states have the same rate per 100K.

I'd be happy to get my vaccine on camera too if it moves me up the priority list.
Clinton and Bush are elderly, but I don't see any reason why Obama would be able to get a vaccine before the healthy general public in April or May.

So did you just not read the linked article then? Because you clearly didn't if you think this means he's higher up the priority list than (& therefore getting the vaccine before) the healthy general public, since he's literally quoted in it as saying that "I promise you that when it's been made [available] for people who are less at risk, I will be taking it."

That #DiaperDon is being coddled and humored as he tries to steal another term, rather than hiding from enraged politically diverse mobs is damning.

I'm going to wait until Biden has a chance to get something done, but my gut says the United States is done. Maybe we'll go out like the Roman Empire, or maybe it'll be more like the Soviet Union, but I'm having a hard time seeing or believing that we can pull out of the downward path we're on.

Yeah...I think I'm with you here. The fact that Trump was able to convince so many Americans that he warranted no responsibility for the virus, or that not as many as should have cared, was already an indication of this.

Really Biden's presidency is probably just going to be a means of keeping the country on life support for at least four more years. I hope to be wrong, but it's hard not still feel crestfallen about the state of our nation.
