Heart Issue Linked To COVID-19 Will Sideline Georgia State Quarterback (August 21st, 2020)
Quote
The combination of COVID-19, college football and cardiac problems emerged in a major way Thursday with a Georgia State University quarterback being diagnosed with a heart condition.

Mikele Colasurdo announced on Twitter on Thursday that he was diagnosed with a heart condition “as a result of my COVID-19 infection.’’

He added that because of his condition, he won’t be able to play football this year.

(As the full article makes clear George State has a COVID-19 prevention/detection program in place and intends to participate in this season.)

Donald Trump is sacrificing people - destroying their health and their lives - in a desperate attempt to avoid facing the consequences for his own incompetence and malice. He's evil.

Hi everyone. I'm at a cabin in NE WI until Monday noon, so I'll keep track of the day-to-day COVID-19 stats and update them here then.

180k+ people have died within 6 months, including my husband's uncle....

That’s unfortunate. And I’m sorry to hear that.

It doesn’t make the lockdowns justified, though. If you want to do anecdotal, I’m living proof of the damage from social distancing and isolating nonsense.

You're still alive and posting on the Atlas forum. So you're better off than the victims of delayed lockdowns and premature reopenings.

And early this morning my grandmother, 95 years old, joined those who passed from covid-19. Sad

New she tested positive a couple weeks ago, and slipped into a very bad State mid-week. She actually was recovering and doing better these last few days. Since she had recovered enough to be conscious, I planned on trying to set up a phone call or a Skype meeting for her with my family since no one is allowed to visit her in person oh, but alas it was not to be. Had to tell the boys today that their GG-- short for Great Grandma - - passed away.

She was a very strong woman who went through a lot. She married my grandfather when she was in her late teens and had my dad a year later when she was I believe 19.. earlier, during World War II she worked in a factory making machine guns for the war effort. She told us about how during lunch breaks her and the other workers would go out to the parking lot dance to music on a radio. She remarried another man close to 30 years ago, and he passed about 3 years ago himself. Ironically, also a railroad man before he retired. She raised four successful kids, had only four grandchildren including myself since my one uncle and my aunt never had kids, and has five great grandkids.

Rest in peace, Grandma. I love you.

Thank you folks. Genuinely not trying to attention w****. Just atlases, all joking aside, a part of my life, and I just felt inspired to post something about Grandma. The fact that people hear of shared stories of losing loved ones and even getting sick themselves just seem to make it the appropriate spot.

Thank you again.

I've seen those posts on social media all day how, supposedly, only 9,000 people have died from the virus in the US.

I have too. It's only counting cases with Covid-19 as the sole cause of death; in most cases there were co-morbidities.

Which to me is horse****. All that's saying is, here's a reason why the virus killed them. But even in the other 9000 there's some reason why they died and not so many others, even if it's a not medical comorbidity.

Like yeah we know non-very healthy people have a higher risk of dying. A lot of people have comorbidities!

This precisely. What these statistics mostly indicate is that the United States was not exactly a healthy country even before COVID.

It's dumb.  Would a person who died of pneumonia, cancer, or any other disease not be counted as such because they happened to have high blood pressure or some other comorbidity?  Of course not.

So, more crazy covid-19 hijinx, kids! We were in East Ohio and I-70 half way to my grandmother's funeral in Pittsburgh when my wife received a text from our son's gymnastics coach. Apparently one of our son's teammates tested positive for, and not a false positive. The kid was last in the gym on August 20th, but my son would have been exposed to him then, and that is obviously within the two-week incubation time. Although the gym does a great job in terms of enforcing social distancing, mask-wearing,  rigorously  cleaning equipment and after each individual use, and keeping its large garage style doors open for air circulation, we still obviously could be asymptomatic positive at this point.

With some hurried family discussions, it was reluctantly decided by everyone, especially considering the number of covid vulnerable individuals who will be present, that we would how to turn around and forgo going to my grandmother's funeral. Sad We are going to get tested ASAP in the next day or two, and otherwise quarantine ourselves for at least the next week until test results come back, possibly next week as well depending on doctor's orders.

The last 30 hours have been an absolute sh**tbag

The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 8/29 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'm keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day.

New - Substituting the Δ Change metric as of 7/13 on dates starting from 7/5:
ΔW Change: Comparisons of Weekly Day-to-day Growth or Decline of COVID-19 Spread/Deaths.
  • IE: Comparing the numbers to the same day of last week, are we flattening the curve enough?

Σ Increase: A day's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE: What's the overall change in the total?

Older Numbers (Hidden in spoiler mode to make the post more compact)

8/16: <Sunday>
  • Cases: 5,566,632 (+36,843 | ΔW Change: ↓25.90% | Σ Increase: ↑0.67%)

The extent to which this country has collectively just completely given up on actually suppressing the virus is infuriating. Plateauing at 40-45K new cases per day most days is disastrous and inexcusable.
