Dr. Vin Gupta on MSNBC said false negatives are like 10% common in the rapid test, but false positives are extremely rare so Dewine's negative test the same day should be disregarded.

I wonder if these numbers are influenced at all by people who think the first vaccine out the door may have had rushed trials and could be unsafe, and they're saying they might not get that. I'm guessing that probably can't actually happen, but maybe it explains some of the high numbers.

At this rate, we'll be close to a quarter million deaths by election day. It's so difficult to even wrap your head around that number of casualties.

Let me help you then:  over 2.8 million Americans died in 2019, and the median age of a COVID decadent is 78 years (same as U.S. life expectancy at birth)

It's still difficult to wrap your mind around it. Even harder to comprehend is the 5 million who have been sickened by the disease.

And I have not had one pro-lockdown person yet have a coherent answer when they are confronted with the societal issues of mass evictions, mass suicides, permanent unemployment, etc just to save a few old people.

Depends what you mean by pro-lockdown. I don't think most people here want a very long lockdown as you seem to imply. From your 2 previous posts, you appear to favor some lockdowns yourself.

Definitely looks like we've more than likely peaked (for now) so that's good at least.

Unfortunately these death tolls are still pretty catastrophic.

If it takes place off campus and is an otherwise legal gathering I don't think the universities should have any basis to do anything. If it's on campus or violates government mass gathering limits then yeah.

I need to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I don’t want to sacrifice my health and youth for much longer. This virus isn’t bad enough for me to want to do that. There actually is a lot of negative harmful effects of socially distancing for so long. How much more do you guys want me to sacrifice?

Wear a mask is all I want.

I'm fine with limited capacity at business. I haven't called for universities to shut down. There may be some instances where it's appropriate. I think if everyone wore a mask outside of their dorms/apartments and sanitized their hands frequently it would be fine. So yes wear your mask and go see your friends, don't get right in their faces, try not to yell, and I'm good with it.

CDC was pressured 'from the top down' to change coronavirus testing guidance, official says

Quote
A sudden change in federal guidelines on coronavirus testing came this week as a result of pressure from the upper ranks of the Trump administration, a federal health official close to the process tells CNN.

"It's coming from the top down," the official said of the new directive from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The new guidelines raise the bar on who should get tested, advising that some people without symptoms probably don't need it -- even if they've been in close contact with an infected person.

US unemployment claims climb past one million for second week in a row

I don’t personally see the economy rebounding or even being stable until the end of the year, maybe even two.

How does the unemployment rate keep going if there's a million new unemployment claims every week? Excuse my economic ignorance.

I am just very very very very angry about the whole covid situation and feel like the worst has been brought out in everyone.

When in reality,  most people would support the same game plan if they weren't trying to fulfill narratives.

I'm guessing that's your way of admitting you made up that statistic.

Didn't Disney say they might continue to require masks at their parks even after a vaccine? I can't find a source, I just remember that.

I also think there will be attempts to outlaw publications that acknowledge the negative effects of lockdowns. But I don't think it will pass.

That would violate the 1st Amendment.

I've seen those posts on social media all day how, supposedly, only 9,000 people have died from the virus in the US.

I have too. It's only counting cases with Covid-19 as the sole cause of death; in most cases there were co-morbidities.

Which to me is horse****. All that's saying is, here's a reason why the virus killed them. But even in the other 9000 there's some reason why they died and not so many others, even if it's a not medical comorbidity.

Like yeah we know non-very healthy people have a higher risk of dying. A lot of people have comorbidities!

Since May I've yet to see someone in the grocery store without a mask, and I'm in a conservative area. Granted I'm never in one for very long. But I wonder why compliance is only 80%+ in your store Calthrina.

The SA article opens with a quote from noted COVID-19 expert Alyssa Milano, lol

Is this supposed to be bad? It's not presented as anything more than an anecdotal comment about her experience.

Do you even read Scientific American? This is not at all uncommon in their articles. It's an excellent magazine.

CDC documents say states should prepare to distribute Covid-19 vaccines as soon as late October

Quote
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has told public health officials around the United States to prepare to distribute a potential coronavirus vaccine as soon as late October. It also provided planning scenarios to help states prepare.

The documents were posted by The New York Times and the CDC confirmed to CNN it has sent them to city and state public health officials.

The scenarios offer details about distribution for two Covid-19 vaccines when supplies "may be constrained." The documents prioritize particular populations for the vaccines, including health care professionals, essential workers, long-term care facility residents and staff and national security populations.

Apparently they can come back next semester. Do they have a case on the tuition? I know universities are considered self governed but that seems pretty extreme, about ~$30K basically stolen.
