Liberals of Europe vs TDS Libs of US. Guess who is following the science.

https://www.nytimes.com/live/2020/10/30/world/covid-19-coronavirus-updates/schools-are-staying-open-in-europes-new-lockdowns-a-reversal-from-the-spring
Schools are staying open in Europe’s new lockdowns, a reversal from the spring.
Quote
When Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany announced the latest round of restrictions on public life, she named bars, restaurants, theaters, concert halls, gyms and tattoo parlors as institutions that would be forced to close. But missing from the list released on Wednesday were schools and day care centers — among the first to be shuttered in the spring lockdown.

In France, President Emmanuel Macron also said on Wednesday that schools would be exempt from wide-reaching nationwide restrictions that are to take effect beginning Friday. Ireland also allowed schools to remain open despite a nationwide lockdown that went into effect earlier this month.

.............

Micheal Martin, the Irish prime minister, said that while his country could no longer avoid restrictions, despite the detrimental impact on the economy, it was vital that schools remained open.

We cannot and will not allow our children and young people’s futures to be another victim of this disease,” Mr. Martin said in a national address. “They need their education.”

https://www.nytimes.com/live/2020/10/30/world/covid-19-coronavirus-updates/los-angeles-schools-will-probably-stick-with-remote-learning-until-at-least-january
Los Angeles schools will probably stick with remote learning until at least January.
Quote
The vice president of the Board of Education, Jackie Goldberg, said that even January was optimistic.

“It may be February or March,” she said.

And at that point, she said, the question may be whether it is worth starting in-person instruction if many children have to change teachers that late in the year.
You f**king kidding me?

If it wasn't sick enough, there seems to be large share of parents who don't want their kids to go back to school even if they reopen. I guess it happened because Democrats and Free Press invested heavily into fearmorgering against reopening... only because Trump happens to be for reopening...

Quote
Many families in other districts are choosing to remain online even when they can go back. In New York City, the nation’s largest district, just over a fourth of students have returned to in-person instruction, Mayor Bill de Blasio said this week.

Own (poor) kids to own the cons.

I will be crushed if Biden doesn't get more than 300 Electoral Votes. This is so out of touch and flippant, it literally makes my blood boil.

Pence absent from Covid-19 planning calls for more than a month

Quote
Once a driving force behind the White House’s coronavirus messaging, the group hasn’t held a collective press briefing in months. Inside the West Wing, task force members’ growing alarm over the virus’ resurgence has gone largely ignored. And among health officials on the front lines, there is mounting consensus that the federal government has little new aid to offer – leaving states to face the pandemic’s third and potentially worst wave increasingly on their own.

“There’s not any acknowledgment or appreciation of the severity of the surge,” said an official in one governor's office long frustrated with the federal response. “The stark reality that we’re facing is the White House – from top to bottom – has stopped governing and is only campaigning.”

Biden realizes that another full lockdown would not be a good idea. This puts to rest one of the real worries I had about him.

We never had a full shutdown of the country either, so what's all this nonsense about "another one". America's Covid-19 response has been patchy, to be kind.

We're on track for the record-breaking 100,000 new cases today. We're already at 90k with about 3 hours of updates to go.

The best message for Trump during the last weekend of the campaign.

Already 92k with partial results today.

A lot of the worst states for new cases are swing states, so maybe campaigning is spreading things.

100,000 cases per day is on pace for 36,500,000 cases per year, which is enough to kill a half million people per year at bare minimum due to the lack of hospital beds and ventilators. We are kind of numb to all of these. numbers at this point, but that's the current rate of spread in America under Trump right now after having almost 8 months to figure out how to fight this thing effectively.

We're going to be over 100,000 cases a day on Friday (if not earlier), aren't we?

Well, I hoped I wasn't going to be right.

Latest research coming out indicates three high risk groups for bad outcomes from COVID-19 infection:

1. Bald men
2. Group A blood type
3. Neanderthal genes
- (on Chromosome 3)

All three groups suffer worse outcomes once they have a COVID-19 infection. I don't know whether these attributes make the individual more susceptible to infection in the first instance.

And on the positive side, men treated for prostate cancer have better outcomes from COVID-19 infection.

Clearly, there is something going on with testosterone somewhere in this research.

We are in for at least one very dark month and likely more than that. It is scary to think we as a country are going to be facing it as a completely rudderless ship. If Trump loses he won't care and he won't step aside and let people like Birx and Fauci take charge, he is way too arrogant to let that happen. He will likely continue to mock and ridicule them. If he wins it will be all about opening things up and he will push anyone that says different completely out of the picture.

At which point we could be at much higher daily figures, unfortunately.
