Why does it matter if Biden wins?   He's going to be a do nothing lame duck with an R Senate and a 6-3 Supreme court.

Because Trump is an evil POS who deserves to be thrown out of office and looked into his legal conduct?

Also, Executive Orders are still a thing. It may sound naive, but Republicans in the senate and Biden must sit together and get at least some stuff done on criminal justice, infrastructure and economic recovery. Otherwise, frustration with the system will further increase and get the next populist in office. And this time, it may be someone who is smarter than Trump.

"Executive Orders are still a thing" - Do you honestly think that rule by executive order is a good system of government? If you were sitting in Philadelphia in 1776 wearing a whig and with a quill in your hand, do you think you would be saying to yourself, "Yes, we should have rule by executive order. Yes, we should have an ceremonially elected legislature, but the ceremonial legislature should not do anything and the President should simply rule by fiat"? (I guess maybe you might since a lot of the people writing the Constitution in 1776 were somewhat sympathetic to monarchism, but I digress)

Is the NYT site correct? They say Michigan has processed 1.4 mil absentee/mail ballots, but McDonald's site says there was 2.8mil?

McDonald's?

1) New cabinet

2) Undoing Trump's executive orders

3) No more Trump-appointed judges. Sure he'll still have to go through McConnell, but at least we can stop the bleeding.

4) No more spur-of-the-moment major military decisions or presidential decrees by tweet

5) We can at least start to rebuild our reputation abroad

That's a lot!

Basically translates as Mitch is gonna put Biden in chastity and also make him watch the 6-3 SC do its thing.
its depends on whether Biden can use the bully pulpit effectively. Trump does it well and Obama did it well occasionally

Trump has a Senate and Supreme Court. And a House that rolls over for him when he needs them to. Biden is entirely powerless without a Senate. The "bully pulpit" is irrelevant, but I wish we had someone like TR today.

"Otherwise, frustration with the system will further increase and get the next populist in office."

- Yes, that is precisely what will occur. Frustration with the system will further increase and get the next populist in office.

And thanks to the increasing reliance on executive orders, by the way, that next populist will rule in a more authoritarian and semi-dictatorial way than Trump.

As you yourself say (without realizing it), things are likely to get worse for that reason.

It's clearly time to call MI. Trump has absolutely no path there. Biden is way safer in MI than in AZ, which FOX called already.

It turns out that AZ and NV are the weak links in the AZ+NV+WI+MI path to exactly 270 for Biden. There's PA, NC, or GA, but they are longer shots.

I know it will change, but I love the irony that Biden is currently doing worse than Hillary in terms of the popular vote and yet appears to be on his way to victory.

More importantly, though, it probably means a lot of the outstanding vote is going to Biden generally, not just in the swing states.

All counties in Georgia are still counting absentee votes that came in the mail yesterday, in addition to the numbers that have been quoted on what was left to count.  So far Biden is winning absentee updates in very Republican counties.

A Republican Senate may actually help Biden govern in a more moderate way and enact sane Democratic policies supported by the majority of the people.

Anyone saying this is delusional. Turtle didn't pass a single common sense Democratic policy during the years of Obama/GOP senate. There's no reason this won't continue now.

I can see government shutdowns in our future, as well as failure to pass a respectable budget for any government agency (except our fat and bloated military/VA, of course, that's untouchable.)

CBS financial analyst says split government is the best structure for the stock market, so there's that.

It's crazy how the DSCC was still running ads mentioning that race close to election day. What a waste of resources.
