Can someone recommend the best strategy for an election watcher in the UK, five hours ahead of Eastern? When will the main action happen and when will the path be set?

Have options of staying up as late at possible, which means IN and KY will close and be called at midnight, but I'm not going to make it much past 11pm Eastern ; or getting some sleep in early and rising at say 9 or 10pm Eastern, but would I have missed much of the fun by then?

11 pm Eastern (4 am UK time) is usually when we start to get a very good picture of what the night is going to look like if we haven't already by that point. I'm probably going to stay up til then and then try to get some sleep unless I'm too ecstatic/devastated to do so. If you'd prefer, though, I think you can also reasonably get up at 3:30 UK time and start watching then, since I'm pretty certain the race will not be called by that point. The only thing you might miss out on would be an early Florida call or something else that makes it clear that, as soon as the West Coast polls close, one candidate will cross the line.

I am is Sydney and I am too excited to know who will win the election. According to my thinking and I feel that Trump will elect again. However, I don't know the real situation of election. Can you tell me how can I watch live election? Thank You

Welcome to the forum!

If you are watching online, I suspect most major US networks will have a live stream on YouTube. NBC, ABC, and CBS will be more standard coverage while CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC will probably be more energetic, emotional, and biased, if that's your thing - Fox News on the right, MSNBC on the left, and CNN with both sides and everything in between. I'm guessing once these go live, someone will post the links here in this thread.

I also highly recommend tracking the results on the New York Times's webpage - it's been up-to-date and reliable in the past as well as usually giving context to the numbers you're seeing.

IIRC, the forum crashed in 2016 not long after we got initial results from Indiana and Kentucky. I know because one of my last posts on record for that historic night was:

Quote
Clinton winning Marion County, KY.

That's it. She's winning in a landslide.

Wink

Was she actually ahead in Marion County at the time or were you just joking? Lmao it must have been a crazy night.

She was. There was like one precinct reporting in the county at the time.

Guam update (61% partially reporting, 14k total votes): margin stays pretty consistent since last update at Biden 55.7, Trump 41.5.

Guam update (73% partially reporting, 19k total votes): marginal improvement for Biden to 55.8, Trump at 41.4.

Appears Guam has a similar pro-incumbent bias that Hawaii also has.

I love that memes that were born here, what, 16 years ago are still going strong.

The memes deserve their accolades Smiley

All hail mypalfish for creating the longest-running meme on Atlas.

Heck, for 2004, they probably have a reasonable claim to creating one of the first politics-based memes anywhere on the internet.

When is the earliest that we can know we won? Indiana closing? NC?

If Florida or North Carolina get called for Biden, it really becomes a matter of when and not if he wins the election. But we'll probably get signs one way or the other before those calls come in if, for example, Biden improves on Hillary's numbers substantially in rural Indiana and Kentucky or if, for example, Virginia goes two hours after close without getting called for Biden. We definitely won't know with absolute certainty who wins until at least 11 pm eastern.

48% think Covid response is going well? What planet are these people on?
Dude, most ED voters are Trump supporters. Also, EXIT POLLS THIS YEAR ARE MEANINGLESS.

Lol. Burn.

It's not a proper exit poll unless David Dimbleby reveals it after a build up of tension and music and then totally contradicts everyone's expectations

Us Americans who have heard of David and Jonathan Dimbleby only know them as "Gummo Dimbleby's less embarrassing brothers" since we get Peep Show but not Question Time or Any Questions?.

Guam didn't want to give Biden too much of a win because "blue tsunamis" can cause a lot of problems on a low-lying Pacific island.

This has been the best 4 year period of my life and I’ve grown nothing but more liberal in that time. I’m now on path to have a very lucrative career in a few years here. I’m not going to let a few percentages on a tax bill ruin this country for everyone else.

Just wait and see what Biden's policies will do to this country.

Whatever he's planning, I doubt it will result in hundreds of people dying every day, and I'm guessing most of the country is feeling the same way right now.

The first thing I did on Atlas after Trump's win was to change my sig to a gif of this scene. It only feels appropriate that it's the last thing I post before polls close tonight:

Ladies and gentlemen, it's a privilege posting with you tonight.

Hey gang, what's your thoughts on the classic film Kiki's Delivery Service?

I just re-watched it on Halloween for the first time since a kindergarten classmate's 6th birthday party 20 years ago. Totally lived up to my memory of it as a great movie.

I've heard a lot of people saying Trump is underperforming in the rural areas and the suburbs, but just you wait until he wins Indianapolis with 70% of the vote because of #WalkAway.

Lol Politico now has Biden "winning" in Kentucky with a full 8% in. Big, if true.

The fact they didn't call IN and KY at the top of the hour shows Trump is in serious trouble.

I don't think most news orgs call states until all the polls have closed there. They'll definitely call at least Kentucky at 7pm on the dot.

Do any sites have a running map of county swings? NYT has a button that looks like it should show it, but nothing happens when you click on it.
