This situation calls for Tony Evers's line-item veto pen.

If WI's Map is undemocratic than you guys should also agree that NV's map is also undemocratic.

Sounds like a great topic for a Nevada megathread, no?

Cool, bring it up with the Nevada Supreme Court or have Republicans support national redistricting reform like Democrats do.

Wisconsin’s map doesn’t even have contiguous districts. Nevada is a product of Republicans distribution in the state more than anything.

Word is Vos says he won’t impeach if Democrats agree to his Iowa style proposal. I think there’s little to no chance they take it.

Iowa’s system is better than Wisconsin’s, but it still gives too much power to the legislature. That said this is a massive retreat for Vos.

Vos is basically on his knees begging for mercy at this point. His decade-long stranglehold on power is up and there’s very little he can do to stop it.

Unless they refuse to hold a trial or set the date winter of  next year but in both those cases a lawsuit would be filed ordering a trial or a earlier date.

Head of the Wisconsin Elections Commission was essentially fired today. It's very probable the Wisconsin Supreme Court will overturn this.

If Republican's legislative strength in Wisconsin is entirely due to geographic advantage then they shouldn't care about fair maps getting made finally.

They want a supermajority so it doesn’t matter how the state votes, and they can do what they want no matter what.

Elections have consequences, people. If you were eligible but didn't vote in 2016, all this BS is on you.

It was really the 2010 election that Wisconsin Republicans decided should be the last democratic election in the state’s history. Can’t believe the autocracy is old enough to celebrate its bar mitzvah this year.

Yes, but had Hillary won in 2016 the Supreme Court would be liberal, and would thus have stepped in by now. Obviously, since Trump won in 2016, that's not the case.

Sept. 14, 2023

Republicans in the Wisconsin Senate voted on Thursday to remove the state’s elections chief, escalating a fight over who can determine the leader of a group that will supervise the elections next year in the battleground state.

Meagan Wolfe, who has served as the nonpartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission administrator since she was appointed in 2018 and confirmed unanimously by the State Senate in 2019, is suing to keep her post and plans to continue in the role while the issue plays out in the courts. Democrats in the state have sharply criticized the decision, saying that it is not within the Legislature’s power to remove an elections administrator.

“It’s unfortunate that political pressures have forced a group of our lawmakers to embrace unfounded rumors about my leadership, my role in the commission and our system of elections,” Ms. Wolfe said at a news conference on Thursday afternoon. “I’ve said it multiple times, and I’ll say it again: Elections in Wisconsin are run with integrity. They are fair, and they are accurate.”

Ms. Wolfe, alongside the Wisconsin Elections Commission, subsequently sued three top Republicans in the State Senate — Devin LeMahieu, Robin Vos and Chris Kapenga. She is being represented by the state’s attorney general, who was directed by Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, to “provide immediate representation” for her after the vote.

“Wisconsin Republicans’ attempt to illegally fire Wisconsin’s elections administrator without cause today shows they are continuing to escalate efforts to sow distrust and disinformation about our elections,” Mr. Evers wrote in a statement.
