Did not expect former Justice Prosser to be the voice of reason here.

Hearing for the case will be on 11/21.

If anyone else was unsure of what this referred to (I was), it's the redistricting challenge. Quote below is from the AP article that Gass linked just above. :)

Quote from: AP
The Supreme Court on Friday, in agreeing to take the redistricting challenge, said it would only consider legal questions related to contiguity of districts and separation of powers questions. It set oral arguments for Nov. 21.

Republicans did not have a majority in the Senate to remove Judge Janet.

It's already kind of hard to imagine Wisconsin Republicans winning Supreme Court elections anytime soon. This is the type of stunt that could be used against them in local and state elections for well over a decade.

They don’t care, they have the state gerrymandered that they would still get almost a supermajority even in a bad showing.

The state will not be gerrymandered for long now that they have lost the Supreme Court

That's what happens when you stand up to fascists and bullies instead of trying to appease them.

A second former justice that Vos consulted said there was no grounds for impeachment.

An impeachment effort here was always doomed because it was so blatantly partisan.

Right now only the state legislative maps are being challenged.

Yeah, no idea why the congressional maps haven’t been challenged yet.

It's probably lower priority since a court map is likely to stay at 6-2, unless they fully embrace a proportionality idea (which they may want to avoid for the moment since it would require gerrymander-esque splitting of Milwaukee, putting the court out more on a limb politically.)

Would that be different from the present situation? As it is, Wisconsin Republicans have the issue that the demographics that turn out most hate them, and so their gerrymandered control of the legislature is the thing keeping them in power. It seems to me that the only downside for Republicans in doing something like this would be that it would be embarrassing if they couldn't get it through, and it doesn't look like they'll be able to. If they could, though, it would absolutely make sense for them to do it.

I highly doubt a court map/special master map would still produce a 6-2

Impeachment not only would have failed but would have generated enormous negative media coverage, driven Democratic fundraising and local candidate recruitment, and probably sparked well-organized recall campaigns in key legislative seats. All that considered, it's remarkable and sort of funny that the ostensibly "nonpartisan" former justices were the ones who had to sound the alarm on it.

If I were the Trump team, I'd be calling Vos and his crew every hour of every day urging them to stop. Wisconsin's going to be super close next year, it's not hard to imagine this stunt backfiring on the Republicans.

At this point I dare him to do it and the Senate will hold a trial because they will be forced too and it will be fail as one Republican senator has come out against it.

I agree, there's waaay more for Democrats to gain from the legislative maps than the congressional ones.  The congressional map really isn't all that bad given the circumstances, it's just that geography really is horrible for Democrats when there's only 8 seats to go around.

Lawsuit has also been filed against the state’s school choice program. Really hope that gets shredded too.

Time is not on Vos's side the first hearing on the case is November 21 and after December 1st, Evers can just appoint a new justice who could serve until 2031 with no special election necessary. Trying to impeach before she even sits on a hearing and not even issuing a ruling for the case would even be more baseless.

Apparently Vos qualified his statement by saying that impeachment is still on the table if she votes to overturn the maps, which (unless I'm misunderstanding Wisconsin's judicial process) feels like it would be a massive own-goal since it would put the legislature's Republicans in the position of having to vote on it with the knowledge that their districts will be redrawn regardless.
