I'm a social conservative on matters of sex and porn, and think prostitution should be merely decriminalized but not legalized. But trying to censor porn from the Internet will not end well. When the Chinese government first introduced internet censorship in the 90s, it claimed it was to stamp out porn. Then it gradually expanded the list of things to be censored. Porn is still rampant on the Chinese internet, but everything else is now tightly censored.

I consider the Letterboxd score quite a bit as I have so many movies that I'm intetested in and need a way to narrow my choices down.

Rottentomatoes has a somewhat flawed system but it is still helpful. 100% of critics could find a movie "good but just good, not really good, not great by any means" and the RT score would be 100%. Likewise, a movie all critics agree is "bad but not really bad and definitely not terrible" would recieve 0% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Letterboxd (and IMDB) do an average rating by all those who submit scores, which is more helpful. Brand new movies tend to have inflated high numbers when they first come out though, which must be taken into account.

Trump not signing this bill or at least forcing a $2000 vote on the floor of the senate would’ve given Dems the only prayer they had. But alas it’s over

Can you please just do us all a favor & shut the hell up about Georgia? You have no credibility whatsoever, so why do you continue to post (especially about this state in particular) when it's well-known that nobody will take a single word you say seriously?

If Joe Biden is the President Elect then I’m not getting an F

With that said.... Georgia. Well we will see

Is GA gonna count those remaining 48K ballots or

They aren’t nearly Democratic enough to make a difference at this point

They’re delaying the invevitable but if you just listened to me it wouldn’t be so difficult.

You mean like how you listened to literally all of Atlas when we gave you receipts over & over & over again as to how JKIII pales in comparison to (King) Markey? Or how you've been listening to us right now as to how, y'know, simple math re: GA ballots & the composition thereof works?

K.

Low blow. I can’t help the latte liberal crowd is short a few brain cells

Is Biden gonna win the peach state or nah?

Let me let you in on a little secret .... No

Let me let you in on a little secret .... the numbers don't agree with you. Like, at all.

Okay, we’ll see

How are we feeling about PA, GA, NV, and AZ?

PA: Awful now despite decent numbers cause well you know
GA: LOL... come on
NV: Shaky but not totally doom
AZ: Has always felt like it was slipping away

Does anyone feel the Secretary of State in Georgia holding a press conference means it’s locked up for Trump? I can’t imagine a Republican SoS making a big to do about ballots that put Biden over the top which as you all know I don’t think will happen but just an honest question

Wasserman said Biden would have to run the table with Georgia votes and he sounded extremely pessimistic.

Georgia SoS says only 25k votes left and Biden down 18k. This is the final time I’ll say it, Georgia is over.

Remember, MillennialModerate also said there was no way Biden could come back in WI, MI and PA.

I was very unsure about WI and MI but I never totally discounted Bidens chances in the way I do in PA or especially GA (and AZ for that matter)

This election is getting on my nerves. I wish Biden could just clinch PA to get this nightmare over with.

Don't think Biden's getting PA

Don’t say. You’ll be eaten alive like I did.

I’m in the minority but if I were betting I’d say Trump is likely to win this thing.

Biden falls short in Georgia by a hair
Biden falls short decently in NC
Biden lead slips away in AZ
Biden might hold on in NV but it’s not a sure thing
Bidens outstanding vote in PA has been GREATLY exaggerated

It’s simply not happening.

Trumps final margin might be under 10k but he’s not losing that state for the simple fact there is hardly any vote left to overcome such a margin

If you ask everyone yes. But ... well you’ll see

Biden is going to win Pennsylvania and he has a 50/50 1/100 chance at Georgia

*Fixed

What I’m hoping for:

-Joe Biden wins the EC
-Peters maintains his senate seat
-Perdue is pushed below 50%

Is this too much to ask?

There is not a snowballs chance in hell that the republicans lose Georgia with the senate on the line. And that’s separate of my normal Georgia ranting. There is literally no chance. Turnout will be depressed for the casual voter. I’d beg for a chance to bet on it

Mark my words: Pennsylvania is the election. Every remaining state is going Trump
Even Nevada, Georgia and Arizona?

Percent Trump will win:

Georgia: 99%
Arizona: 90%
Nevada: 75%

Well guess its still a little interesting. Trump needs a flush of AZ/PA/GA to win. Doubt that happens but who knows.

GA is a lock, PA is definetly leaning in his direction. Arizona is razor thin but reasons for him to feel good

Georgia has 95% counted, Trump has a 81,494 lead. North Carolina has 94% counted, Trump has a 76,712 lead. The rest of the votes being counted lean toward Biden. Keep an eye on those contests, Biden still has multiple paths to win the Election and the Democrats have a small chance at taking the Senate.

I repeat. There is ZERO path to the senate. Absolutely zero. Anyone who wants me to put my money where my mouth is, let me know. I’ll give 4 to 1 odds

I think that Georgia looks very unlikely, but how does the Times needle still favor Biden? What am I missing?

Brain cells. It’s been the most predictable of the none safe states since ... November of 2016. But alas

Why are you so hung up on this? Either way Georgia will be ridiculously slim. There was no actual REASON to think it was impossible after the left trends in 2016 and 2018. You just keep saying that for absolutely no reason. What a bizarre hill to die on, especially for someone who apparentlynlives nowhere near Georgia you seem awfully emotional about it.

Cause the sun belt fantasy aside from Arizona is nauseating. We hear this BS constantly about rapidly changing this and rapidly changing that. Yes in some ways but in other ways the rurals are becoming more and more and more entrenched. It gives Dems this false hope that’s unfounded. Never said there wasn’t a shot of it being close. The GOV race was razor thin when both parties had awful canidates - but to actually tip over into the Dem column was fools gold and anyone who had it on their map just ... idk. just needs to reasses how they analyze things politicallly

Biden has almost no chance of Georgia no matter how many times I get ignored or called a troll.

Control of the senate will likely hinge on the runoff in Georgia glad its Warnock vs Loeffler Cunningham looks toast and its looking really hard for Gideon to pull off a win in Maine but theirs a lot of votes left to count their so lets see

Uhh are you bad at math

If Gideon and Cunningham loses the Senate is over

He and GoTfan have been clamoring for a Trump win, doesn't mean they support him but I don't understand the psychology behind it.

I would (LITERALLY) have given my right nut for a Dem trifecta. So clamoring is a ridiculous thing to say.

I just refuse to try and talk myself into something that I don’t believe is going to happen especially when that just means the heartbreak will even worse than it would have been if I just accepted it.

As for Georgia specifically - I just don’t get what people are seeing. The numbers for Dems are not there. They just aren’t

Perdue has easily won.

Trump won narrowly which is miraculous for Dems. The state has been a lost cause for years and especially this cycle. No matter how much of a hard on they get for it - it’s not happening and the fact people still at this hour believe it to have a chance of going Dem just shows the bankruptcy of their political analysis

Can anyone TLDR on how much is out in GA and when its expected?

Focus on the blue wall

Georgia is a pipe dream

Major vote drops to come in Fulton and DeKalb for GA.  Looks to be a big comeback for Biden.  The question is well it will be enough.

I’m going to say No.

Big surprise.

My answer was one of riveting suspense

In what works? Because the unreliable needle says so?

GA is actually looking like it's going to come down to 1% either way. The votes are coming in around metro ATL and they are not good for Trump vs. 2016 and 2018.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Christ. Stop. Just stop

What's your thinking? You can quote me on this. Look at the margins and swings from 2016 coming out of Fulton, Dekalb, Gwinnett, Cobb. Even Cherokee and Fayette...

Called it

You called nothing. It’s NOT HAPPENING. You’ll see. Quote me. Write it down

Is this board infected? I know I sound like a broken record but Christ on a cracker. Georgia is not happening. PERIOD. Write it down.

You're right about one thing, you DO sound like a broken record. And it is very annoying for you to run around screaming things hysterically without even explaining it, just saying "PERIOD" as if you think that's some kind of logical argument.

I mean the numbers don’t add up it’s that simple. There’s not enough Dem vote outstanding

GA is actually looking like it's going to come down to 1% either way. The votes are coming in around metro ATL and they are not good for Trump vs. 2016 and 2018.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Christ. Stop. Just stop

HAHAHAHAHAHAH

Give Georgia up. It’s been over since... welll for years

Texas likely Trump
Georgia likely a Trump
Florida officially Trump
NC ... tossup.

Yeah. Donald Trump is going to win re-election.

All you mocking doomers really really need to re-evaluate your sunshine views

All these stressful takes are totally forgetting that Biden is preforming extremely well with independents in the polling

LOL this is Florida.

It shouldn’t even have been a tossup. NC I can understand but anyone who thinks Biden is touching FLA or GA really needs... a diffrent hobby

Oh my god, I hope you cry when Biden wins GA and FL

In that fantasy land I’d cry tears of joy but .. if you think that’s happening you genuinely need a new hobby. I can see TX or NC happening if Biden pulls out some miracle. But GA and FLA are GONE.

On what planet is TX to the left of GA and FL? This sounds like a parody of Atlas doomers.

Don’t get me wrong I think Texas is still going GOP, NC I don’t know what to think.

But if I had to pick one of TX, GA, FLA - it would be Texas by a mile.

Florida is a GOP lock based on recent numbers and a Georgia is a lock because ... it’s been a lock for months but no one wants to believe it

Were you the blue avatar with the statement "Trump sucks" in there? Because that post was very good. I wouldn't say Trump "sucks" but I agreed with a lot of those critiques overall.

Anyway, VARepublican is going to be a great poster. He already is, but he's still relatively new. In a years time I suspect he'll be a pretty well known and well liked poster.

The only way to stop mass-immigration into the US is to look at our interventions in the region and fix them. They've generally done more harm than good to those citizens. We imposed harsh sanctions on Venezuela to try to force concessions from Maduro but ended up starving the Venezuelan citizens in the process. This won't completely stop illegal immigration but looking at our history of interventions in the region and getting out of there/try to make amends would go a long way to solve the migrant crisis both here and elsewhere in the world.

If blacks-only churches are a thing, this should be allowed then too.

Of course, the best solution is to have neither.  But the wokees have taken us back down this path.

Point to a historically-black church that has ever thrown out a white person who wanted to attend a service.

There has probably been cases, but it hasn't been reported.
So you’re pulling it straight out of your derrière then?

ITT: leftists defending the government of a country that (1) went from "core" to "periphery" on its own during the 70s and 80s; (2) that defeated communism practically by itself.

To clarify: The Soviet Union started the Cold War period as a technology exporter to the Warsaw Pact countries. By the late seventies it was a natural resources exporter and technology importer, having reversed its economic relationship with its own satellites. In a world generally marked by progression, you've got to advance to stay in place; the Soviet Union failed to do so (and its institutions were very poorly designed to encourage innovation outside of certain strategic sectors--and even there, the Soviets were well behind in computers by the time it mattered). Soviet living standards peaked in the Brezhnev era; the irony here is that people remember fondly the very period where the direction in their living standards began to reverse.

Obviously this from our conversation about neo-Bourbonists and Alessandro Barbero - Very Italian stuff indeed:

I have no love lost for the Bourbons post-Louis XIII, but the Habsburgs were one of the most consistently evil force throughout European history (the Hohenzollerns got even worse once they became prominent, but that happened late enough that they probably still rank behind overall), so it's not a hard choice at all.

And yeah, Southern Italy has a lot of legitimate grievances to voice against their Northern brethren, but neo-Bourbonists are utter clowns.

Do you know who historian Alessandro Barbero is? He once had a debate with some neo-Bourbonist "leaders" and absolutely destroyed them.

Holy sh*t. Shocked If I know him? I listen to every single talk by him that comes up on my Youtube feed! The guy is a legend, I've learned a lot from him. I'm even following a Barbero meme page on Facebook lmao Cheesy

And yeah, I've seen him epically own that neo-Bourbonist with facts and logic. Fascinating stuff. The audience was stacked against him though.

Purple heart Purple heart Purple heart BEAUTIFUL!

I think I have watched all the videos of his conferences at Festival della Mente in Sarzana (Sarzana notoriously being just 10 km or so away from La Spezia, I have actually never went to the festival live). I also watched a still video that was a registration of his radio lessons about the Ottoman Empire... man, that was fascinating. Although probably nothing is as fascinating as the chronicle of Salimbene de Adam, what a f***ing legend.

My absolute favorite is his talk on Marc Bloch. I was more or less familiar with Bloch's political views and his role in the resistance, and vaguely familiar with his historiographic contributions, but he paints such a vivid picture of the man that has turned him into a personal hero of mine. In a similar vein I love what he had to say about Garibaldi - again I was broadly familiar but my understanding didn't scratch the surface of what a legendary badass he was. I've been promoting Garibaldi Day as an alternative to Columbus Day for years, and now I feel it more strongly than ever.

His series on the medieval mind is excellent too. It really got me into medieval history, which had long been a blind spot for me. I love the installment on Fra' Salimbene, but the other two are fascinating as well. It's a really well-done trilogy.

And yeah his radio series are excellent too - probably the most in-depth historical material you'll find anywhere on Youtube. I loved the one on the Ottoman Empire, but the one on Charlemagne and Frederick the Great Asshole were excellent as well.

I'd never thought about this before long ago because, well, literally who cares about Columbus Day in actual Italy, but in the last months (spent with a lot of browsing of a United States centric site) I've started believing that as well. GARIBALDI DAY! GARIBALDI DAY!

No, there was a legitimate purpose. It was quoting one particular poster from during & after the election to point out their complete loss of credibility when it comes to discussing the state of GA. (As per the 1st sentences at the very beginning of the quote: "Can you please just do us all a favor & shut the hell up about Georgia? This sounds like a great way to kill any goodwill the party has left among small businesses. Simply put, a lot of small business will simply not be able to afford such wages and will need to close as a result. I'm not opposed to minimum wage increases, but $30.00 nationwide is not realistic.

Q: Hey Atlas, what do you think of ticket splitters in some random tiny state?

A: I F***ING HATE THEM!

#AtlasAutistic

Next time you want to call out people for being hateful, you might want to avoid the casual ableism. Just an idea.
My goodness, you can dish it out, but you sure can't take it.

Ok, fine. I'll try to be more sensitive next time I post, guy who just said he f***ing hates 50k+ people.

I realize this going to make me seem like a huge #Moderate Hero, but more than one thing can be bad at the same time. Throwing around "autistic" as an insult is bad and unnecessary, and the amount of hatred in this thread for a bunch of random people from Maine is also bad and unnecessary.

Idk which was sadder- the fact that people thought the Iowa and NH primaries were good barometers of the Dem primary electorate, or that voters actually trusted 45 on the economy.

Nebraska.  When I was in Valentine, Nebraska, I thought, “wow, I’m in a very red place.  I’m in Valentine, in Cherry County, which just gave Bush 82% of its vote!  And it’s beef, or red meat, country.”

Self-serving, but of course my favourite recent discovolante post is this:

Of course I have read everything and I care about your navel-gazing, even though I'm not at all into this stuff so I don't have much to say besides making my compliments for the effortpost.

Personally all those hands make me think of a crowd cheering or chanting (positive meaning), or otherwise of a group of people desperately asking for help - maybe food, or shelter (negative meaning).
Also, my box of coloured pencils has one called "yellow ochre" and it actually is one of those I use the least; there is no colour called "red ochre" instead, which I find quite unfortunate. However there are pencils named after other pigments, like the colour "raw Sienna".

As always, my friend, I appreciate you humoring me. Both of your readings of the piece intrigue me, although as I suggested in the OP I'm a bit more inclined towards the former reading. It seems to me a joyous expression of tribal solidarity and connection with the natural environment, and that's where my fancy begins. Often I find myself wishing that I knew the sort of folk that would be willing to do rituals in caves with me...

It's a bit of a common joke that earth-pigment colors of colored pencils and crayons are always the least-used. "Burnt umber" in particular tends to be dunked on frequently, although if I had any confidence in my abilities in the visual arts I'd be using that earth palette all the time in living out my primordial fantasies.

Dayum.

Predates the Altamira hands in Spain by several thousand years.  Being from Charm City, I'm sure you've been to the replicas in the Smithsonian Natural History Museum.

I wonder if that South American cave art also had animal art nearby?

Unfortunately, I actually haven't been there in recent memory. There are indeed some hunting scenes nearby, though:

ExtremeRepublican is extremely (ha) correct in many ways here. We're talking about generalizing about a group of 74 million people. Most of them are fairly normal. In fact, a very large majority of them are in fact normal people - not the most crazy group of wackos who would do this.
It's not civil, just, or fair to overuse guilt by association and presume automatically that an expression of support for one's political tribe would also lead to one committing these acts. It's not right or correct to spout these ideas and then attack someone for giving a partisan reply defending either their own side's voters or politicians, after you have doused yourself in a level of, however understandable or otherwise, rhetorical excess. It's not conductive to the starting of healing or even of normality in any way, shape, or form to just mudsludge the other side in this manner and treat a person as a potential criminal purely on this sort of basis.
Sowing even more increased and thorough partisan hatred will only increase the risk of something like this recurring in the future. And it's even more harmful to our democracy in the long-term than anything the attackers did yesterday. We need sanity. Please be considerate and compassionate. We can disagree on what needs to be done but can we just please be considerate? Is that too much to ask?

Regardless of the policy implications, it's a good debate to be having and can manifest the public consciousness. Haven't had a chance to consider it's merits but I'm sure I'll be watching closely.
