I figured this was the guy in the movie The Butler but apparently not.

That's really sad.

I'll never understand why governors think it's okay to reopen now.

Also, I'm taking any information Oxford says with a truckload of salt. Wasn't their vaccine reported not to work?

We need to start reopening now. The damage of perpetual lockdown is not worth it.

I keep seeing "opening up now" proponents justify their position by presenting the choice as "open now" or "lockdown forever". It's such a blatantly stupid argument that all it accomplished is discrediting those pushing it.

What do epidemiologists say? What does WHO say? Is there a consensus among people who actually have a record of knowing what their talking about?

Um, testing is exponentially increasing. You're smarter than this.

An increase in testing, and a decrease in the positivity rate, does not mean infections are going down. It's consistent with that, but it does not imply that at all. The testing is not random.

I'm only referring to people here who have called for lockdowns lasting a period of a few years. That's not tenable, and I'm skeptical of that even if WHO experts were to recommend it.

I'm not an open up everything now proponent either, I just supporting cautiously reopening where we can.

That's a noticeable spike in cases. We haven't been in the upper 20ks for weeks. It looks like the states that are rushing to re-open are reigniting the blasted virus. Sigh... Let's hope it's an outlier.

Umm, where is that information?

Edit: Furthermore case increase after reopening don't come in big bunches, it's over time. Correlation is not causation

The US had over 3 times new cases than Europe outside of Russia. Epic fail.

I guess testing surges don't exist. In that factor, today was a great day.

The 28,000 cases, or more, would have still been there even if we hadn't looked for them.

The nationwide cases aren't going back up like the alarmists are suggesting, is my point.

You don't know that. The surge in detected cases may be caused by the surge in testing, but the surge in testing may be caused by a surge in infections!

Wait a few days, but when comparing to last week, it certainly doesn’t look great from what we have. At best, it is plateauing which is actually pretty f**king terrible when we are still at 20-22k cases per day.

Sure, but without widespread contact tracing, mask orders, and social distancing being enforced in public spaces, reopening would make things worse.

It's certainly how some of it works. If someone's infected you want to test the people they had contact with.

See this is what I find concerning, we have people in charge of making and distributing vaccines that have corporate interest ties that makes me concerned the vaccine we discover will not be affordable to lower income and vulnerable populations. I hope it doesn't come to that though.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/coronoavirus-santwon-antonio-davis-charged-defrauding-company-covid-19/

Quote
A Georgia man faces charges after authorities say he lied to his employer that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Santwon Antonio Davis, 34, is charged with defrauding his employer, the U.S. attorney's office in Atlanta said in a news release Thursday. Because Davis said he'd tested positive, his employer had to shut down its plant for sanitizing and put several other employees on paid leave while they quarantined, causing the company a loss of more than $100,000, prosecutors said

People fraudulently claiming they have COVID-19 is the last thing this country needs when we are dealing with real COVID-19 cases.

This isn't the first time that Trump has worn a mask at a plant. He did so at a mask manufacturing/PPE plant in Arizona, I believe, a few weeks ago, and took it off. The difference here of course, is that this time we have a photograph of him wearing one. Remember that he took it off again before finishing the tour. So we really can't credit Whitmer or Nessel with anything here.

At any rate, I honestly don't understand why we continue to litigate this matter. Trump's made it clear that he's not going to wear a mask in most circumstances, and he's not going to change his behavior.
