Pretty small rally. If anything it's a return to where he was before he f-cked up his initial response.

If Biden fails after Obama did everything to push all the Dems out to rally behind Biden, who is the same as Benghazi Hilary, Obama is the problem, not just Biden. Gavin Newsom and Whitmer would be the nominees in 2024

I can see a lot of indies approving of him as a knee-jerk reaction to this crisis. But once they feel the crisis and the economy tanks they will disapprove of him again. Hopefully.

Not only is this rally-around-the-flag quite weak, but many of the people "rallying" might still vote against him in November even if they approve of his performance now.

Much of the uptick in support for Trump on Coronavirus comes from self-identified Democrats and independents.  This is very soft and if this crisis turns out to be as bad as it looks, this support will drop rapidly.  He'll have his 42-43% with him forever.

This is my suspicion. And those Dems sure as hell won't vote for him.

Interesting question in that Global Strategy poll showing how quickly attitudes are evolving:

Would you say the coronavirus pandemic is best described as... (change from March 6):

A major crisis 70 (+37)
A major problem, but not a crisis 26 (-25)
A minor problem 4 (-9)
Not a problem at all 1 (-3)

If Trump reopens things the way he’s now saying he wants to, his numbers will fall again. What a boneheaded thing to do when this crisis has barely begun.

It's not Trump's fault, obviously. People are not stupid to blame Trump for this.

But it will change depending of Trump handling it. Hopefully, today Congress will agree on huge stimulus helping people and business. Thank God, Trump is a populist, not a muh fiscal conservative!

Another stat from this poll RE: Corona
B2. Below is a list of issues. Please indicate who you would trust more to handle each one
Responding to the coronavirus outbreak

Democrats in Congress 39%
President Trump 45%

Despite MSM working hard blaming Trump for everything (including shutting down flights from China JFC).

Well yeah, he's pretty maxed out with Republicans. Where else would an uptick come from?

Him shutting down flights to China is not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, especially with everything else he's screwed up

It's the only decent thing Trump did early in the crisis to help slow the spread (and even that was not early enough or go far enough).  I suppose we can't really blame RB for putting all his chips on it; it's all he's got.

Exactly--and the fact that this idiot went after Biden today shows that he deserves no rallying around the flag effect.  Watch numbers start to slide as this crisis goes on toward his 43% base.

You've been guaranteeing it ever since it became clear that Bernie would lose the nomination.

Trump is seeing a rally-round-the-flag effect.  It's very common in terms of crisis, and it usually doesn't last long.

Joe Biden is a horrible candidate. Even if he doesn't actually have cognitive decline, lots of people think he does, and that matters more. Plus, he may not be progressive enough to energize young voters.

If this does happen, hopefully does for progressives what the 80s did for moderates. Although it could equally mean when the Democrats finally put someone up there worth voting for, instead of being a progressive, they could just be someone they put up there "just to win for once", or at least did for Reagan what Clinton did. That is, the next Democratic president concedes on the main issues that gave Trump a durable electoral majority and simply say "I'm a new Democrat. I get that my party had some bad ideas, but I have new ideas that are neither left nor right."

"Rally around the flag" just goes to show that Americans are the biggest state worshiping cucks on the planet, right after the Brits and their carpet munching of the royal family.
It might just be due to Trump's toxicity, but this is by far the most pathetic "rally around the flag" bump I have ever seen considering the magnitude of the virus.

Why are you panicking about this? Donald Trump has clearly demonstrated literally over a hundred times the level of cognitive decline by supposedly has - - which I find debatable as he's always been a quick with the lip goofball - - and about 40 to 45% of Voters just don't give a s***. Why should they about Biden who has literally not 1% the same problem?

It’s probably just going to be a short bump for everyone... especially with the impending global recession.
