I'm beginning to get a sinking feeling they actually do try to reenact J6.

Kari Lake literally told "McCain Republicans" to go and f-- themselves. No wonder they're not voting for her.

Is there any intelligible reason Democrats did not contest the second seat that Liz Harris (the Republican threatening to withhold her vote) won? A Democrat easily won the first seat by almost 4,000 votes but just straight up ceded the other seat.

it was a miscalculation on Dems part. I think going into this election, they assumed the GCB for AZ legislature would be a lot more R friendly than it ended up being, so tried to run just enough to give them a pathway to 30-30 and no more.

When is the recount for the AG race taking place?

December 5.  The Superintendent of Education and one legislative race are also within the mandatory recount margin (0.5%) but neither of those is nearly as close by percentage as the AG race.

Is this what we have to look forward to, with Republicans all across our nation?
If they lose an election, then they demand for a "re-vote" so they can have a second chance of possibly winning?
How ridiculous can this/they be?

I don’t know if this has been posted yet but the LT Governor proposal passed 55/45. The geography of the vote is a strangely clean north/south divide you don’t usually in Arizona

Does that mean Hobbs will get to appoint an LG or will there be a special election?

Does that mean that Hobbs will get to appoint a Lt. Governor or one would just be elected in 2026?

I believe one would be elected in the 2026 election, and I think the proposal made it so they are elected on the same ticket and that the Lieutenant Governor is a staff member in the governors office (such as chief of staff).

But unless the ballot measure specifically didn't create the office until after 2026 then it's technically vacant now (well not now but when the next term starts) and would have to be filled as such vacancies are set to (such as if the LG resigns without being promoted to Governor.)

I’m decently sure the office isn’t created until after 2026.

You are correct.  This is the actual ballot language:

Quote
A “YES” vote shall have the effect of amending the constitution to
create the office of Lieutenant Governor beginning with the 2026
election; requiring that a nominee for Governor name a nominee for
Lieutenant Governor to be jointly elected; replacing the Secretary of
State with the Lieutenant Governor as first in the line of succession to
the office of Governor; and provide that the Secretary of State, State
Treasurer, Attorney General, and Superintendent of Public Instruction
may succeed to the office of Governor regardless of whether they were
elected.

Huh - that's a bit of an oddity.

In the Senate, you have that occassional situation where a member resigns/dies, and their chief of staff is appointed to fill the slot for a year or two. Think Ted Kaufman getting Biden's Delaware Senate seat between early 2009, and the special election during the 2010 midterms.

It's almost like they set out to recreate that dynamic here - which feels pretty unique. Makes sense if the governor has been appointed to higher office, but going to be awkward if the AZ gov is taken down by a governance scandal, and one of their closest aides ends up taking over.

That, or a Newsmax anchor (not even Fox News). She burned just about every other bridge to have any other future after this. The same is kind of true of Dr. Oz. He gave up a lucrative television show and at least somewhat more apolitical reputation for a contentious, polarizing, vanity Senate bid and now I don't think he'll ever be able to reclaim that outside of the right wing media-verse.

Wild stuff. Not sure who’s going to provide this “whistleblower protection”. Maybe they think Herschel Walker’s badge is real, and he able to offer them spots in a witness protection programme?

Today is the last day for counties in Arizona to canvass and certify their vote totals.  Several counties have previously done so, but a few are still finishing up today.  Maricopa is having their public canvass meeting and it's going about as well as you would expect:

Check Garrett's Twitter feed for additional updates.

Also, Cochise County has voted to delay their certification at least until Friday, which is the last business day before the state certifies next Monday.  This delay is unlawful, and it's likely the state will get a court to compel certification, as happened in a similar case in New Mexico earlier this year.  In case anyone is wondering, if somehow Cochise's votes were not counted (which is EXTREMELY unlikely to the point of impossibility), it would flip AZ-06 and the Superintendent of Education races to the Democrats.
