Jerry Sheridan would probably win, but if Arpaio is the nominee the Dem will win it by a lot.

Recall that Hodge ran for Congress against David Schweikert in 2022 and only barely lost. How is this only coming out now?

He allegedly didn’t run again for Congress because of this.

I always hated him (check my post history) and got used car salesman vibes from him. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

The more shocking departure is Laura Terech in LD04 (the ultimate swing district) not running for re-election with, like, days before the filing deadline. What gives? All the others have more obvious explanations (running for another office, scandal, etc.)

Dems are hemorrhaging people!

In that particular case there was a candidate lined up, namely former Representative Kelli Butler.

Yeah, she has instant name ID in the district, since it’s basically her former district post-redistricting. Just odd..

With Hodge out, Lauren Kuby just declared a statement of interest today. Former Corporation Commission candidate and Tempe Vice-mayor.

Kari Lake concedes in the defamation suit against her by Stephen Richer (Maricopa County Recorder) and asks a judge to determine how the amount of damages she owes.

Quote
The defamation case was just about to enter the discovery phase ahead of trial, in which Lake would have been required to provide Richer’s attorneys with private statements she had made about her claims about Richer.

AZ GOP can no longer afford paying 11k a month on their headquarters. Will sell it and downsize.

What kinda building are they renting if they’re paying that much? That’s like the mortgage payment on a $2 million house. Unserious party continues to do stupid stuff.

Article also says you need a key card to get to the headquarters, which is really impractical when your organization relies heavily on volunteers. Don’t know why they were there to start with.

AZ GOP is in collapse and will likely be irrelevant politically soon. Same for MI GOP and to a lesser extent WI GOP.

Have we seen a faster collapse anywhere? Arizona went from being a solidly Republican state with two Republican Senators and a Republican Governor to voting blue for President and electing two Democrats as Senators and a Democrat as Governor, all within four years. I guess Colorado from 2004-2008 also fits this four year timeline.

PAGOP too. Also could happen to the GAGOP once Kemp is gone and possibly even NCGOP because of Robinson.

COGOP was able to elect Gardner, so they had that.

I feel like Virginia should temper this kind of language. Even if Arizona becomes more of a Dem leaning state, that doesn't lock out the possibility of Republicans winning in good circumstances.

Absolutely. Even if AZ goes for Biden this time it'll still be well right of the national average and a state whose problem mainly is that its increasingly unhinged GOP is scary to a bunch of people who'd like to vote GOP under less fraught circumstances. If the AZ GOP can nominate a Ducey for something again they'll start winning again. This may sound implausible but Ducey could be "a Ducey" and run for governor again in 2026 and if a sufficiently divided loony bin lets him slide through the primary could easily win a general. (AZ has "no more than two consecutive terms" term limits but no ban on waiting a term out and coming back)

It should be noted that two of AZ's current Supreme Court justices (namely, Clint Bolick and Kathryn Hackett King), both of whom voted in favor of AZ's old abortion ban, are on the ballot this year for retention. I hope there will soon be campaign material targeting these two justices.
