So funny how in that tweet he further demagogues in that tweet and demonizes the left regularly and then he's like "I'm not a fascist!!!! I'm not!!!!"

That's even worse; he supports critical race theory!

Board of Transportation member and former State Senator Andy Wells has entered the Republican Primary.

Quote
A fourth Republican has entered North Carolina’s 2024 governor’s race: Former state legislator and current Board of Transportation member Andy Wells.

A real estate developer, Wells promises to focus on economic issues, and he is critical of massive federal spending and its impact on inflation.

“Working families are struggling with inflation,” he said Thursday. “I can’t get workers to do work that I’ve got money to pay for.”

Wells, who is from Hickory, served one term in the North Carolina House and three in the state Senate. He ran for lieutenant governor in 2020, spending $500,000 of his own money on the race and placing a distant second in the Republican primary to now Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson.

On that note, it seems to have been centuries since NC elected a Republican Attorney General. Is that simply luck for Ds, something else, a mix of factors?

Retired Health Care Executive Jesse Thomas has entered the Republican Primary.

Quote
A retired health care executive has entered next year’s race for North Carolina governor, with Jesse Thomas describing himself Tuesday as a “no-nonsense Republican” who aims to attract voters within the “wide middle ground between the two extremes.”

Thomas, who led the Medicaid plan offered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina to hundreds of thousands of consumers, announced his bid on a Greensboro-area podcast last week, when he also filed his candidate committee paperwork.

Recently involved in the North Carolina chapter of the Forward Party — founded by former presidential candidate Andrew Yang — Thomas joins an already crowded GOP gubernatorial field. Republican candidates include Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, State Treasurer Dale Folwell, former U.S. Rep. Mark Walker and ex-state legislator Andy Wells.

Probably luck, I'd guess. Keep in mind that the Republicans have done fine in other positions. Prior to the 2000s the Democrats still dominated in NC at the state level. More recently, of course, the GOP has won a lot of the Council of State positions, but first there was Roy Cooper (very popular) for several terms, and then there was Josh Stein. I'd say it's just been really good luck for Democrats since Cooper retired when you consider Stein's razor thin margins - 0.6% in 2016 and 0.2% in 2020 (tbh, given just how narrow of a victory Stein had in 2020 as the incumbent, I was a little surprised to see red avatars hailing him as some very strong candidate...the bench must just be pretty mediocre in that case).

Cooper endorsed Stein Wednesday. Probably not that unexpected, but it certainly puts a damper on the potential Morgan campaign. Maybe this would've been the case either way, but I don't think Morgan did himself any favors publicly speculating about a potential run for over a whole month.

The question is if Robinson destroys himself enough. Trump probably wins by about 4-5 on the top of the ticket.

NC is unique as it's the only sunbelt state (sans FL) that Trump did better than Romney in. It's not guaranteed to trend blue. I think 4-5 is a stretch but 3ish is entirely possible.

NC is kind of a protectionist state (Ds successfully used CAFTA to flip NC-11 in 2006), parts of it are driven by similar forces that are in play in the rural Midwest, so perhaps Trump doing better there than Romney is to be expected.

Well, Josh Stein officially has a primary. I still think Stein wins the nomination rather easily, but Morgan is a noteworthy challenger

Morgan is a statewide elected official, as NC Supreme Court Justices are elected. So I do think he’s a credible candidate. That said, I still think Stein is the frontrunner and will end up winning the primary rather easily. That’s my two cents, at least.

I don't see it. Robinson has enough institutional support already I think he wins no matter what.
