Total insanity that McAuliffe got punished for something in Loudoun that literally had nothing to do with him or the Democratic party.

They're not willing to fight. Republicans say things, Dems basically throw their arms up in the air and say its not true, and expect that to be enough.

Hopefully this will teach Democrats from ever spouting about CRT again.

It's a made up issue.

Not that I've heard.
Presumably they are busy handling Election Day votes if I had to guess.

Had never heard of Radford before. Turns out it only has ~17k people. Makes me wonder what small towns elsewhere could be bellwethers for their states.
Virginia makes it easy to find the results for (many) towns and cities by having "Independent" cities which are not a part of the surrounding county. No other state allows this, and the only thing somewhat similar are city-counties (Philadelphia and San Francisco).

I've seen enough, calling it for Youngkin. I really don't have any idea how TMac can pull it out. This should be a wake up call for the powers that be in the Democratic Party, but based on what I've seen, it won't be.

BernieBro! How about that Princess candidate you Socialists ran? You cost us the race AGAIN! Just join the GOP already!

Loudoun 95% in now with mail votes counted, only same day left. T-Mac only up by 11. Not even close to good enough. That county alone likely blew it for him for highly specific reasons. It's Miami-Dade 2.0.

For reference, Loudon was 11 points more Dem than the state as a whole in 2017. It will probably tighten a bit as the last votes are counted. Seems to bear out Nate Cohn's tweet that all signs point (modestly) to Youngkin.

One thing I remember Youngkin saying on his last rally in Loudoun was not only a pledge to ban CRT but also keep advanced mathematics. He also gave a fairly moderate statement in that he understands we still have a dark history.

Republicans are literally the only ones I ever hear talk about it.

Right. I have not heard one Democrat talk about critical race theory unless it is to say that it isn't being taught in K-12 schools. The lies that Republicans tell.

Republicans winning elections by running against a policy that doesn't even exist really sums up the massive societal problems that America is facing right now.

Then you won't mind when Youngkin bans it on Day 1?

If that was literally all he did, sure, go ahead, why not. But I know well enough that what Republicans actually want to do is force schools - and society at large - to pretend that racism isn't a major problem in America anymore, which is obvious nonsense.

But if you ban it how are you going to run on it again?

That is true, but is Radford an independent city? I haven't looked into the topic much, but I don't think that is the case.

Maybe not sitting on their hands refusing to actually counter anything the GOP is saying? Maybe employing a winnable strategy such as spamming their message constantly like Republicans are doing? Literally anything more than what they're doing now, which is practically nothing.

The (sane, normal) D counter to that is "why not keep advanced mathematics and ban glorified white chauvinism in our history books"?

Pass M4A of course! It would force the GOP to stop talking about CRT and instead force them to talk about the Democrats’ socialist takeover of healthcare

I hope Democrats have the correct reaction to this.

The correct reaction is ram through everything they can, because the narrative has been set. Perceptions become reality, and this election will literally cause a red wave in 2022.

But inb4 Manchin decides to become even more "moderate" in reaction to this, as if running to the center helped Democrats at all in 2010, in 2014, in 2016...

The Virginia election won't "cause" a red wave. Voters aren't going to vote Republican because Youngkin won. It might point to a potential red wave (but I'm waiting for NJ results to judge that - VA is a state where Democrats just don't seem to be in a good place right now).

American politics in 2021 is 100% about optics, momentum, and narrative. A McAuliffe victory would have created a "no wave" narrative. This will create a "wave" narrative, and Republicans can ride it all the way to 2022.

If you don't believe me, that's fine, because you can watch it happen.
