Well that and cold, flippant attitudes towards a high school girl getting raped by a boy in a dress.

What?

What happened?

He's a deranged transphobe and has gone on numerous off topic rants about them in other threads over the course of the year. That's his scapegoat for everything.

The problem is these establishment hacks aren't willing to fight and defend their own platforms, and let Republicans steamroll over them because they're lazy, entitled cowards who think they're owed an election victory.

Battleground Dems in the Midwest and South better run a very, very thorough autopsy of this debacle and adjust their entire strategy and messaging as soon as possible. The stakes are far too great

CNN just said that only about 23% of the current vote is early vote, that is expected to increase to 37% by the end of the night.

Also looking at CNN results, Ayala is running even with Youngkin, Miyares is about half a percent behind him. A sweep seems like the most likely outcome, one way or another.

Some people I saw seemed to believe Sears and Miyares would run behind Youngkin, but ticket-splitting is not common anymore. Maybe it was just optimism for Youngkin not transferring to other VA Republicans.

Loudoun 95% in now with mail votes counted, only same day left. T-Mac only up by 11. Not even close to good enough. That county alone likely blew it for him for highly specific reasons. It's Miami-Dade 2.0.

Hopefully this will teach Democrats from ever spouting about CRT again.

Republicans are literally the only ones I ever hear talk about it.

Right. I have not heard one Democrat talk about critical race theory unless it is to say that it isn't being taught in K-12 schools. The lies that Republicans tell.

Yep, GOP always gets to control the narrative. Dems are always on the defense no matter what, b/c the GOP doesn't care about cooking up these storylines, whether they're true or not. And mainstream outlets go right along with it.

Wasn't you saying Youngkin talking about CRT is winning issue for Dems? You are unskewing the narrative now.

I hope Democrats have the correct reaction to this.

The correct reaction is ram through everything they can, because the narrative has been set. Perceptions become reality, and this election will literally cause a red wave in 2022.

But inb4 Manchin decides to become even more "moderate" in reaction to this, as if running to the center helped Democrats at all in 2010, in 2014, in 2016...

Republicans winning elections by running against a policy that doesn't even exist really sums up the massive societal problems that America is facing right now.

Then you won't mind when Youngkin bans it on Day 1?

If Youngkin/Sears win hopefully he can work with Chap Petersen to ban CRT being used as the method of teaching.

You can't ban what isn't being taught. What Youngkin really wants to do is remove all materials that reference racism at all and replace them with sanitized versions of history where no racist events ever occurred. Shame the devil and the tell the truth.

Yeah Youngkin is probably gonna win. McAuliffe blew a winnable race.

Correction

The Dems who are currently still having a food fight in Washington blew a winnable race

Total insanity that McAuliffe got punished for something in Loudoun that literally had nothing to do with him or the Democratic party.

Republicans are literally the only ones I ever hear talk about it.

And yet it just won them the VA governor's mansion.

Well that and cold, flippant attitudes towards a high school girl getting raped by a boy in a dress.

Maybe these issues don't resonate with you, and maybe the crowd you hang around never discusses them, but alas, you aren't a suburban parent and swing voter in VA, are you?

Reminds me of an article I read about David Shor and his theory that Dem operatives are terrible at reading what resonates with swing voters and are potentially even sabotaging their candidates by assuming their pet issues resonate with a broader audience. Reading politics with that in mind, it has really struck me how well it pans out.

Loudoun is a bad parallel to Miami-Dade, since Loudoun is significantly smaller than Fairfax. A better parallel to Miami-Dade would be Fairfax.

The Virginia election won't "cause" a red wave. Voters aren't going to vote Republican because Youngkin won. It might point to a potential red wave (but I'm waiting for NJ results to judge that - VA is a state where Democrats just don't seem to be in a good place right now).

McAuliffe still campaigned poorly. All he talked about was Trump, Trump, Trump, who's no longer President. Meanwhile Youngkin was able to distance himself and clearly energize voters.

I've seen enough, calling it for Youngkin. I really don't have any idea how TMac can pull it out. This should be a wake up call for the powers that be in the Democratic Party, but based on what I've seen, it won't be.
