Jimmy is, ahem, prone to extremely short and vague posts, but I take this:

Catalyst138
Labor
Connecticut

I cast a deciding vote in one election a long while ago; still not entirely sure how this works after reading the intro but I want to get back into it.

Welcome back!

Lol desperate Jimmy.

Welcome back to the game, region and party Catalyst!

Since when is welcoming a newly registered player desperate?

Hyperbolically speaking it could be argued that the governments during Italy's First Republic were very stable in the sense that it was always the same parties involved and the general outlook was always the same*. And exactly this led to a very short average survival time for each cabinet. If things will remain almost the same anyways then why not topple the government as soon as there is the opportunity for a litte gain?

*There were of course some significant developments over time like the compromesso storico, the rise of Craxi's Socialists, etc.

Yeah, the First Republic governments were fairly stable in terms of the policies they pursued, even if which specific people pursued them changed all the time. And this long-term policy stability allowed them to advance long-term projects in a way Italian governments have just stopped doing since the 1990s (the last one was really entry into the Euro).

What you both say is true, and, I mean, it's peak Italianness.
As Il Gattopardo says: If we want that everything stays the same, we need that everything change.

The GOP performances were partially personality-driven, with Trump getting a lot of former non-voters or very infrequent voters.
We can't say Ohio is truly gone until Trump has truly left the scene and the GOP has repeatedly managed to assemble a Trumpesque coalition without Trump.
Ohio still has a lot of non-baked in voters that could flip back.
I voted No for the time being.

White gays TM don't give a sh**t about anyone other than themselves, so they vote for Trump. Trump admin is explicitly anti trans, so every trans person and most LGBT people with a conscience can't vote for a candidate who thinks its acceptable to take away their rights. Not to mention the Republican Party, as per their 2016/2020 party doctrine, is explicitly anti gay marriage.

This is why Atlas can't have nice things.

I.E. A female membership of even 10%.

As a Female Atlasian (tm) it frankly is very alienating to see all of those threads.

Yes obviously, even though I disagree with on on various issues. He was a competent and likable person, unlike Trump. America would be in much better shape if Obama was still President right now.

FF on balance.  Even if you disagree with his ideology, or prefer Hamilton or whatever, you have to have some appreciation for the guy who wrote much of the Declaration of Independence, and who was so talented.  Yes, some personal aspects were not good.  It’s bad that he was a slave-owner, like a lot of of presidents were.  On the other hand, he was way ahead of his time on such issues as democracy (yes, for white men only, but still...) and freedom of religion.

We shouldn’t place Jefferson in the same category as such monsters as Jackson and Buchanan.  Having said that, I actually like Madison and Burr a little more.  Madison had similar ideas to Jefferson, but was more level-headed, and Burr was more consistent in supporting liberty for everyone.

Definite HP. He'd be right there trying to overthrow the government today if he were still alive.

Jefferson was way too much of an introverted, erudite nerd to be anything like the wild Trumpsters making news today.

Of course my favourite Antonio posts tend to have a certain (red, white and green) theme.

Texas pride makes sense given its stature and former independence. It's far from the only state with pride, though:

All throughout middle school and high school I was surrounded by lacrosse boys wearing stuff like this. Bougie suburbanites and frat boys in the Old Line State are perpetually drunk on pride in our fine state of polluted and overfished waterways, sports that we stole from the Iroquois and destroyed the fun and spiritual meaning thereof, and Old Bay seasoning. Old Bay I can get behind.

Very late thoughts on today's events—

All of this violence goes far over the line of what the United States of America stands for. This is not acceptable in a liberal democracy or in a party founded by a man who strove to bind up this nation's wounds. I think it is very clear, abundantly clear at this point, that the blame for this rests squarely on the shoulders of every last person who allowed a fact-free rightwing information bubble to fester; who pointed this loaded gun at the heart of our democracy; who knowingly pushed conspiracy theories in the face of all available evidence that put this entire nation in harm's way for no better reason than personal greed and ambition; and who prodded millions of people into losing their reason, their money, their sense of safety, their sanity, and – in Ashli Babbit's case – their lives over a tissue of lies.

This trickles down from the top. Trump has done nothing to contradict the general assessment that he is an embarrassment, an abdicator of his duty to this nation, and an active threat to national security. He is unfit to serve, and he should be impeached and removed or subjected to the 25th Amendment. If it took this to get Republican elected officials to agree with that assessment, let's keep exerting pressure on them to take action and make sure their eyes stay open.

And may our nation and its people be safe. Liberty and Union; now and forever; one and inseparable.

Left: 2020 Presidential election in Chungli District, Taoyuan City:
(DPP) Tsai Ing-wen: 51.46% (126,600 votes)
(KMT) Han Kuo-yu: 43.70% (107,499 votes)

Right: 2021 Taoyuan City Council recall vote:
Agree: 25.81% of electorate (84,582 votes) (92.23% of all valid votes)
Disagree: 2.17% of electorate (7,128 votes) (7.77% of all valid votes)
Turnout: 28.14%

After the recall threshold was lowered to 25% in 2016, it is much easier to recall politicians now compared to 10-20 years ago. It was used to be 50%!

Earlier today, the CEC has announced that there will be no by-election or appointment to fill Wang's seat, leaving it vacant until the rest of the term (December 24, 2022).

As a Marylander I'm obligated by birth to hold a tribal grudge against our southern neighbors, especially regarding their driving abilities, but I happen to quite like much of the state although I haven't spent too much time there for a neighbor outside of occasional visits to family in NoVA and Hampton Roads. At any rate, both Marylanders and Virginians can agree that Pennsylvania drivers are the true menace.
