No one is pointing that out, but the Greek Ecologists had a massive surge of 100% in this election. From 0 votes in 2019 to... 1 vote last Sunday. Tremendous. Wink Cool
Is that the one ran by the crazy guy who thinks he's Dionysius and constantly has nude women advertise for him?

Yes.

In a typical fashion, what they do is the opposite of what they say.

He was convicted to 37 years in prison 9 years ago, for trying to build on 112 acres of burned forests, that he claimed with false papers that was his, so much for the environment :

A crook masquerading as a looney ecologist.

It has been historically KKE's best island.
The Civil War ended in 1949 but in Ikaria it continued well into the 1950s.

Mount Athos. It's an area with several Eastern Orthodox monasteries and they are governed by monks and respond only to the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Also, women are forbidden to enter in Mount Athos.

The first poll for the next election has shown Victory & Course of Freedom crossing the threshold:

Also has Syriza down & Pasok up.

Can Greek posters explain who’d vote for Victory rather than Velopoulos’s party? Is it 2012-2019 Golden dawn vs 2012-2019 independent Greeks? Or more complex?

Curious about this too. There are quite a few seemingly different "streams" on the Greek right-wing/far-right. May 2012 was a great example. ANEL got 10.62%, Golden Dawn 6.97%, LAOS 2.89%, and Recreate Greece 2.15%. For a while, the right-populist/far-right vote seemed to be split between Golden Dawn and ANEL but now it's fragmented again. Is it an ideological difference or a personalistic one?

What’s the difference between EL and NIKI?

Very few, if any. Which is why Velopoulos took potshots against NIKI and called them an astroturf party whose sole purpose is to siphon votes from EL and keep it below the 3% threshold.

Leftists were regularly exiled to some islands or villages until 1974.

For example look at the split in Kefallonia, west Kefallonia is where leftists were dumped.

Until 1981 you needed a certificate of social loyaltly to conservatism to obtain even a driving licence, so leftists where unable to move very far or get many jobs within Greece until then.

A lot escaped to western europe, mostly west germany and sweden, which is why the greek left gets unusual numbers there.

The election of May 2012 revealed the size of each ideological block within Greece.

Usually they are obscured by the large inner party coalitions of the big 2.

The only ideological difference with NIKI is that Velopoulos also peddles ancient greek pagan lore mixed with Star Wars stuff, while NIKI is pure christian.

Have you ever seen Ancient Aliens on the History Channel ?

That's basically the distinction between those who believe it's greek versions to be true,  and just the standard " Have you heard of our Lord and Saviour ? " stuff.

Here is an example (someone needs to translate this stuff to english) of a greek version of Ancient Aliens, which even features the VP of the ND party Adonis Georgiadis making the case that the Mayans, the Incas, and the Chinese are Ancient Greeks:

If you want a laugh, here is a long list of titles of some of their publications that greek satirists really rubbed, try and find which are the real books:

Spoiler alert! Click Show to show the content.

You get the drift, like what is the percentage of voters that believe in the Ancient Aliens stuff or Televangelism in America ?

I read it in the Greek Elects twitter page. Why were pollsters afraid of being bullied by Syriza if they showed the real voting intentions rather than the ones they presented that overestimated the party?

Because that's how SYRIZA and its army of online trolls operate. They harass and bully anyone (journalists, pollsters, academics, political rivals, etc.) who says anything they dislike. It's no wonder why they still feel such affinity for right-wing parties, even Golden Dawn.

Well the accuracy of greek opinion pollsters has traditionally been crap, how else can you explain that the Exit Poll was equally crap ?

I think it's just an excuse to hide their crapness, the press itsn't buying it.

For example in 2012 it was revealed that ex-defence minister Tsochatsopoulos had in his files a 270k euro project than among others had the purchace of madeup polling by Alco or Rass polling companies:

SYRIZA also governed in a coalition with the right-wing populist ANEL Party. Twice, after both elections in 2015.

And Tsipras still praises Kammenos even to this day despite the fact that the latter has come out as a staunch supporter of Russia and Putin and still continues to spout conspiracy theories about the Jews being responsible for the war in Ukraine.

As i understand, it would be essentially correct to say "the army" instead of ANEL.
