Please report any derailment. I just wiped the exchange about raising the voting age to be three years older than myself on grounds of it being too off topic.

The Secretary of State for TN just released the numbers for the first day of early voting. 273,325!

Wow! That’s just one day?

I’m not able to include links yet but as per the Travis County clerk’s Twitter account they have recorded 26,000 votes from today so far.

It looks like Travis county is pacing to have similar turnout to the last two days of voting. Happy to say that I voted in my first election here today and am a part of this number! Obviously we aren’t at Harris or Dallas county levels but we’ve been consistent so far which is nice to see. As of yesterday we were at 11% of registered voters and it looks like we’ll add another 4-5% today.

According to the Tennesse's SOS website, the 273k number is Day 1 early voting and absentee ballots combined. The Day 1 early vote only total in TN were 167,094, which is still great. I believe it's higher than Georgia which has a higher population and is a battleground.

Jesus, that's like 11% of 2016's total turnout.
Yes, its really shocking considering that TN is not a swing state.

Do we know where in the state these numbers are coming from?

I am proud to announce that I got four people who did not vote in 2016 (2 first timers, 1 hadn't since 2012, the other since 2000!)to vote over the last week.  +4 for Trump in GA.

My family also has been assisting with the polls in a small rural county in GA (Trump >70% in 2016). On day 1 of early voting they were expecting 800 people, they ended up well over 1000!

@Monstro: are you still doing the major county updates? Those were outstanding. Also, how is rural turnout compared to 2016, is it about even or is it significantly up?

I am! Sorry, haven't been able to sit down long enough to put the numbers in. I'll be gathering the Day 2 numbers now.

I'm not sure how to get the complete 2016 early numbers. The Texas elections site only provides early votes from the most populated ~20 counties for that year and 2018. And, to be honest, I don't want to spend hours scavenging across 250 county sites! The lack of county reporting is also why I can't find statewide early votes for 2016/2018

Can't say I support Trump this time, but great to see you and your family are helping ensure people can vote. Wish we as a country would see encouraging civic engagement as a positive regardless of political persuasion!

Todays update has been a bit of a letdown.  Yesterday we got about 3 million votes added.  Only 1.5 million so far today.  Hopefully more states report.

It's fine? The day's not over. There will be big numbers from CA, TX, NC, GA...

Definitely.  those 4 states will easily add over 1M combined before the night is over.

The guy does have a day job.  It's not a real-time display anyway.  I'm sure when you look at it tomorrow morning it'll be over 20 million and by the start of next week over 25 million.

I thought the TX numbers were already entered today.  Tonight's numbers won't be available til tomorrow was my understanding.

I thought he has scrapers that are pulling the data automatically, but maybe I misread something.

If he does, they aren't moving very fast, Iowa posted it's update at 11AM for yesterday's totals and it's still not showing on his site.

Oh, right, today's numbers won't reported until tomorrow, but the 17 million number isn't a real time number either. So I wouldn't get hung up on how quickly the site updates or by how much the number of votes go up each update/day.

Tarrant County broke the day 3 record from 2016

2016: 42,332

Now: (at least) 44,990

Polls closed at 5 PM in Tarrant County but some people are still in line.

Is there any data on what the party balance of early voting usually is? Since like 75% of election day voters are Trump supporters due to GOP fearmongering, I'm curious as to how much of the early vote tallies are additional Dem turnout, and how much is a reduction by means of typically-early Republican voters waiting 'til November 3.
