So this poll is garbage - but not a single poster in this thread has accurately identified why. Instead of just saying "muh, Dem doing well in Lean R state in red year, junk poll" (which has some truth to it, for sure, but risks falling into the trap of confirmation bias), maybe take 5 minutes to identify the actual flaws with the methodology:

• The poll does not reflect the state's electorate: sample is Trump +2 even though Trump won the state by 8 and we have no reason to believe the electorate will be MORE Democratic than it was two years ago
• The poll does not weight by education - which we learned the hard way in 2016 is a huge flaw in the current political environment, especially in the Midwest of all places

I used to be economically conservative and opposed to policies like this - and to be sure, I'm still vigorously opposed to actual welfare abuse and (though I understand the term is racially charged and more a stereotype than an actuality) 'welfare queens' - but even then, I doubt I'd ever oppose a bill like this. Don't tell me you oppose food security for war veterans? After all they've done for our country, it's the very least we can do for them to give them 3 square meals a day. The fact that military veterans sent overseas in Afghanistan and Vietnam and Iraq are homeless or have untreated PTSD is a national disgrace. The fact that we can't serve the people who selflessly served their country - putting their lives on the line - is just truly saddening. This bill is just a small step of progress on that front.

There's nothing "elite" about Ukraine receiving aid.

What's "elite" is the incredibly privileged position of some Americans, where their geographical position means they will never personally have to worry about being invaded by Russia, or some other aggressive imperialist state like China, so defense against Russian invasion is just a theoretical thing that they can use as opportunity to take a contrarian position and talk down to everyone else.  Whether Russia gets away with invading Ukraine, annexing its territory and massacring its people matters so little to them that they pick sides purely based on what gives them that feeling of superiority they live for.
