Where did this 33,000 business come from? The site right now has 21,000.

I ran yesterday's numbers at the same time to today's. Their totals are usually cut off at different times, and sometimes they edit the numbers for days that had already been accounted for, artificially inflating or deflating the current day's count, which makes it difficult to track.

Doing what I'm doing keeps the numbers stable and avoids the downsides of their glitches. All of my numbers are available from the day that I started counting. If there's any miscalculation in them, please let me know, and I'll fix it.

The only thing I can think of is that some antibody tests came back which aren't assigned to any specific day.

That could be it, but we just don't know. The quality of the output is only as good as the data that we have to begin with (TI/TO).

I think the lowest amount of deaths since 3/29 per Arch’s numbers.

That seems to be the case, yes.

Indeed, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico are suddenly jumping. For two months, Colorado was by far the worst of the Four-Corner States, but things have changed suddenly over the past few weeks.

So what's happening is heat isn't killing the virus? Huh.

In terms of the death toll, at least, it might be some combination of the virus becoming less deadly / us becoming more efficient in dealing with it / some states suppressing numbers to some extent. We know FL has engaged in this to some extent.

But no, heat itself is not enough. At its peak, worldwide, the virus was doing a fair bit of damage in places that have hot winters.

This is a conspiracy theory.  There is no evidence that any state is systematically undercounting COVID-19 deaths or diagnoses.

Please read up on a subject before calling it a conspiracy theory. See the evidence above. There's more in the form of a statistically significant surge on "pneumonia cases" in Florida as well.

I have read up on the subject.  There's nothing that Florida is doing that is systematically under-reporting COVID-19 deaths or diagnoses inconsistent with how other states are reporting.  If you have actual evidence to point to, please provide it, but until then stop peddling conspiracy theories.

Did you read the article above at all? I never said it was a systematic undercount, but if it came off like that, that wasn't the intent. "It's been reported in Florida" would have been better phrasing.

The numbers support that it is being undercounted, whether you like it or not. Stories of such nature have come out of Florida, where I first heard about it.

Experts of all stripes agree on that, even Fauci pointed it out.

I've found Nate's week-over-week comparisons are frequently deceiving because he uses a weird 24-hour window that seems to include an inconsistent number of states.   Worldometers is at 897 deaths today (which will go up slightly before their day closes (which is very close to Nate's number), but 1032 deaths one week ago (6/4).  So by their metric, we should see a decent week-over-week decline.

I don't understand why you are appealing to science when you appear not to understand very much of it.

I know more about science than the guy who came up with that model that said America would have 2.2 million deaths by now.

I do my homework on this.

I'm sorry, but this is buffoonish at best. You clearly don't know what you're talking about. You should probably brush up on how to do research before you try actually doing it.

The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 6/14 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'm keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day.

Δ Change: Day-by-day Growth or Decline or COVID-19 Spread/Deaths.
  • IE: Are we flattening the curve enough?

Σ Increase: A day's contribution to overall percentage growth of COVID-19 cases/deaths.
  • IE: What's the overall change in the total?

America has checked out on the virus,  maybe if we hit 150-175 K by the end of the summer people will pay attention again

Unfortunately, that seems to be mostly the case. I will do my best to make sure that I don't check out, and I'll keep the thread going alone if I must.

It doesn’t seem like many people are harshly criticizing California’s response.  And despite locking down very early, they are following the same path as Texas and Florida.

This just seems to me like more evidence that lockdowns alone are not very effective unless they are also bolstered by partial herd immunity.  The reason that places like Italy and Spain and New York were effective last month (and it seems like the UK has been effective a month later) is that they didn’t lock down until a significant portion of their population had already been infected.  But of course, this also resulted in horrible death tolls in all these places.

So you could definitely make an argument that California locked down too early.  Ultimately, it was impossible for them to stop the spread of cases before enough people had been infected that they had an immunity buffer.  But at least now we have much better testing and treatment that we can identify and treat cases where there is a new surge, resulting in a lot less death than we saw in Spain or NYC.

There is no herd immunity buffer in California--they had a strict lockdown that was enforced and kept it under control, keeping hospitals from getting overwhelmed, and then reopened in phases. Look at New York for example which waited too long to go into lockdown, and ended up with a far higher number of cases and deaths despite having less people than CA.
