The Russian soldier mentions he's been injured in the arms and a leg by shrapnel, but can't go to the field hospital because it's full with 1,500 people. Instead, the men in his unit have resorted to injecting themselves with painkillers to keep going.

This is the first one of these intercepted calls released by Ukrainian intelligence where one of the Russian soldiers starts to cry.

Chechen elite fighters have now returned from their vacation and are on the frontlines. Vows for another Mariupol, Lysychansk, Popasna, etc.. for Ukrainian fighters. And promises to cleanse and liberate all of Ukraine from "Nazism" and "Satanism"

According to the Russian puppet administration in Kharkiv, Ukrainian troops in the counteroffensive outnumber the Russian ones at a ratio of 8 to 1.

Link to article here:

Good lord.
I knew things were moving in an unfavorable direction for the Russians and I have long been rather bullish about them to some extent, but when Russian officials aren't able to sugarcoat the situation, that's telling as to how bad things are at the moment for them. How much ground can Ukraine gain? At what point does this jeopardize their hold over Kherson? There ought to be more discussion about what possibilities there are for how this helps Ukraine on other fronts.

That claim of being outnumbered that dramatically is surely untrue, but the fact that the quislings are pronouncing it as part of their media strategy is a clear indicator that they know they're being rolled over, and have to make an excuse to the homefront as to why.

It looks like Putin is going to have to decide whether to put his country on a war footing, which means disrupting the lives of those living in the metropolises of St. Petersburg and Moscow:

Yeah. You almost feel sorry for a lot of these young conscripts ofc, many of them are simply cannon fodder for the baseless ambitions of a dying old man. That being said at this point in the war I don't think any Russian soldier who isn't actively attempting to desert can claim innocence... Not after everything that has happened.

And the Ukrainians have been generous with the defectors.

On a lighter note, we have the first official comments from the Ukrainian tractor brigades.

This farmer found 3 abandoned T-80s at Trostyanets [These probably come from a Russian elite 'Guards' unit that was based there]. Despite not knowing much about tanks, "mechanics is mechanics" and he managed to get one started, and towed the other two. He wanted to keep one of them, but he's upset the meanies of the 93rd Brigade came and took them all away. Ends with the wistful line "I will remember them". I guess that could be about the tanks or the soldiers. Tongue

I suggest we start a petition to get this man his tank back.

Are the moderators just going to leave up a post where a poster fantasises about choking and f****** a woman then?

It’s war. War means there is a period of time when two classes of people whose needs and survival have been determined to be exclusively relevant. During that time, one group lies outside the moral community of that  group inasmuch beyond whatever obligations outside classes universally impose upon them. In layman’s terms,     your feelings.

Historically, not everyone caught up in war has abandoned all moral obligations towards their opponents. The Geneva Convention is not foreign imperialism.

Besides, almost nobody here is at war and we'd do well to remember that when discussing it.

I alluded to the Geneva Convention but the point is that now is not the time to be lecturing.

What does this (vaguely Schmittian) screed have to do with the lurid fantasies of an American keyboard warrior then? Is he risking life and limb on the frontline against the Ruskies? What do these contributions add to the thread?

No he’s not. He’s a grown man (a fair bit above the average age on this forum as far as I can tell), who lives thousands of miles away from the conflict zone, a conflict zone that, I assume, he has never been to. If you want a thread of threnodies and torture porn then do it somewhere else.

As suspected, the UK and the US have been working with Ukraine all summer on a daily basis, war gaming everything, and then providing Ukraine with what it needed to execute. The US and the UK thought it critical that Ukraine take some ground back to end the appearance of a stalemate before the winter freeze in Europe, which had the potential to weaken resolve for those with less spine.

Ukraine wanted to do what the red arrows depict below. The war games persuaded Ukraine to abandon cutting Maripol off from the east as too sanguinary and risky (something the Russians expected and was where their forces were concentrated), and instead move to snatch back the Russian held portion of Kharkiv province. Kherson was still on even though it was thought to be a slower slog. The black arrows depict what we now all know happened. One thing the US and UK believed was that Russia would not be capable of moving around its forces with any dispatch. So that left the hallowed out Russian forces in Kharkiv province very vulnerable:

Below are some excerpts from the end of the article, contrasting the capabilities of the two armies. Ukraine does not have the quantity, but it has proven it has the quality.

“Eventually, Ukrainian officials believe their long-term success requires progress on the original goals in the discarded strategy, including recapturing the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, cutting off Russian forces in Mariupol and pushing Russian forces in Kherson back across the Dnipro River, American officials said.

‘Russia has been weakened. By failing to detect Ukraine’s buildup around Kharkiv, the Russian military has demonstrated incompetence and shown that it lacks solid intelligence. Its command and control have been decimated and it is having trouble supplying its troops, giving Ukraine an opening in the coming weeks, U.S. officials said.

‘The plan that emerged from the midsummer discussions relied heavily on U.S. intelligence and high-tech weaponry. But American officials insist that credit for the offensive lies fully with Mr. Zelensky and the Ukrainian military, which led a relatively small force in Kharkiv to an outsize victory.

‘’No one is spiking the football yet,’ Mr. Kahl said. But, he added: ‘I think it really demonstrates to the world that the Ukrainians are capable of conducting complex, offensive operations.’”

Wait a minute. Is the 93rd Brigade Russian or ukrainian? Is he mad at a Ukrainian unit for recovering the tanks? Huh

This entirely.

Good to see the Cassius was able to cry like a b**** over for a collaborationist helping to support the mass rape and genocide of people. And grossly entirely absolutely and utterly misreading and mischaracterizing my post where I simply, and unapologetically wish her, apparently wounded by an assassination attempt, a painful death. I have zero regrets over that and Cassius should be ashamed himself for being a Pearl clutcher yet again for the Russians in the name of grand non-interventionism blah blah blah blah blah.

So I'll reiterate this to hopefully get past his sensitivities as well as the mods. This person deserves no consideration whatsoever. And I hope she dies from her wounds like every other Russian invading Ukraine or the people collaborating in their Mass torture and kidnapping machine

Exactly in the amount of slightly more than your keyboard Pearl clutching over the fate of collaborations with the worst Spate of mass genocide and war crimes in the world right now
