Here we go...

If you read the courts decision, they would view this as unconstitutional as Roe was in the first place.

Its a states issue. Abortion will still be legal in much of the country. If its that big of an issue for you, move.

The fact that you think SCOTUS would care about that his darkly hilarious.

FYI, Samuel Alito, Amy Coney Barrett, Clarence Thomas, John Roberts, and Brett Kavanaugh are all murderers. Never forget it.

That would be abortionists you're thinking of.

As a Catholic, glorious news. Abortion was always an abhorrent practice. Leave it up to the states.

If abortion is so abhorrent, why should a state be allowed to legalize it?
Exactly, I don't know how anyone pro-life is able to think sub-national units should be able to permit this.

People may be celebrating today but the fight is far from over.

On the issue of financing the right to travel for an abortion, one would hope that charities would step up to the plate, and at least for the moment, Congress through reconciliation could pass a law financing travel for an abortion on a means tested basis. Some states will allow abortion in the first trimester perhaps.

Biden should have packed the court after McConnell and Trump's shenanigans. What is the point of winning elections and doing nothing when your opponents win elections and do whatever they feel like it. About 50 years of women's progress has been erased with one dubious court decisions. The progressives will have to waste energy continuing to fight this issue when we have other key issues to fight. A cynical person might even say this is by design.

How could he pack the court, even if he wanted to? He'd need Congress, and good luck getting past Manchin and no filibuster. Just like with everything else.

FDR's threat to pack the court was incredibly effective even when it was considered politically unpopular.

This Is How FDR Tried to Pack the Supreme Court

When his New Deal legislation kept getting struck down, FDR proposed a law targeting justices over the age of 70.

Democrats today are still trying to fight a fair fight and the GOP is gouging their eyes out.

FDR also had 334 house seats and 75 senate seats

Yeah and he was one of the most powerful and effective leaders to ever hold the office. He had a Trump level personality cult, except he was far more popular with the people at large and far more politically skilled. Really no comparison to Joe Biden, frankly.

FDR actually appeared to fight for his constituency and listen to progressive movements including nearly all their main wants as progressives. Yes he was not perfect and his coalition was made up of bankers and elites as well but he had a cult of personality because of the policy he relentlessly pushed. We have a system of checks and balances, obviously there is no check on the conservative Supreme Court now which has become a ridiculous undemocratic institution.

I'm actually pretty impressed that Manchin has been so publicly pro-choice as the sole Democratic federal representative in what is arguably the single most pro-life state in the country.

Abortion is a profound act of love. No one has ever died from a (correctly performed) abortion. Meanwhile millions of women and other pregnant people will die or be imprisoned due to miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, etc.

What's stopping states from criminalizing abortion funding? And lol if you think bold is going to happen.

When Republicans cried about the “tyranny of the majority”, it wasn’t the “tyranny” part they had a problem with, it was the “majority” part. They wanted to be the tyrants without needing a majority of the country.

We are increasingly living under a right-wing judicial dictatorship, and we need to treat that as the crisis that it is.

Lol so returning this decision to the people’s elected representatives is dictatorship

About 50 years of women's progress has been erased with one dubious court decision. The progressives will have to waste energy continuing to fight this issue when we have other key issues to fight. A cynical person might even say this is by design.

Never forget that when the only Democrat in the House to vote against codifying Roe faced a competitive primary, leadership did a full court press to campaign for him. That "Democrat" won by about 300 votes.

This is why I have no trust in leadership. They own this. Pelosi and Clyburn are likely the reason Henry Cuellar won. They've learned nothing from the lessons of 2020, and continue to press for the nominal mirage of power rather than actual power.

Henry Cuellar, a single House Representative, is not why this happened. They were against purity testing on a single issue to harm our overall election chances in that district, because it's better to have a politician who agrees with you on 90% of things than 0% in any House seat, when the vast majority of your members will stop him from posing any harm to your goals on what you do disagree with. It's about not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good.

All this post shows is why you don't understand how politics works.

Harming chances in a district that checks notes still voted for Biden by about 5% and is just as suburban as it is rural.

All of this shows is that you have no idea what you're talking about. You don't know the district, and most of all, you have no idea of the concept of power. The concern trolls act like TX-28 is WV and Cuellar is the only option like Manchin.

If you want to defend this, you don't give a f**k about abortion rights. Sit your ass down and let the people who are interested in change do the talking.

This will be a test of the polling industry. If public sentiment is truly against this ruling then the GOP will suffer long term for this. IF they’re right…interesting to see

If Democrats were more palatable in rural states in the Senate, some of this could have been avoided

They get to experience what conservatives felt in the 1960s and 1970s when the then-awful Supreme Court just made stuff up.

Except this is likely just the first step in trying to create a right-wing theocracy.

The legitimacy of the 2022 and 2024 elections is also highly suspect now, I believe.

This is definitely true, but it's also interesting how quickly they turned on the Supreme Court. I remember just a few years ago all the lines from fake Christians who were heartbroken about gay marriage complaining about the "black-robed tyrants" on the Supreme Court. Now they love them. It's crazy how nakedly partisan and political these people are.

Honestly, if they try anything else openly partisan, then I would go full Andrew Jackson.

They make the ruling, so let them enforce it.

Issue polling has always been flawed because the fact is most people don’t really care about a particular issues one way or the other . It’s just that when they are polled they basically answer a Postion that sounds better to them but it doesn’t mean they care .

The people who care are already partisan democrats and partisan republicans

What a sad day for this country. I shudder to think about what's next. Will the Court overturn marriage equality? I assume that will be the next challenge, if it isn't already in the works.

Absolutely this.

This Supreme Court has lost any ounce of legitimacy it had; a slow decline that started with the Garland fiasco, and any future Democratic Presidents need to openly tow that line.
