A couple of pages back, I posted about something called the Lazerpig Loop. Invented by YouTuber Lazerpig, the Loop is the best summary of this war you're gonna get. For those not in the know, the Lazerpig Loop is as follows:

Russia stronk memes->Russian tech is better than Western tech because (insert reason here)->War happens, Russian stuff turns out to suck->People forget about war->Repeat.

“Every 5th person in the occupation” is not 8000 people because some (most?) of the residents fled before (in?) the occupation, and others had left with the army after joining it.

The mayor may well be inflating his claim but it could be plausible, depending on how many people were in town when Russia took control.

Not really, Putin has clearly stated why he is attacking Ukraine, and this isn't one of them. This seems to me like those people who claim that the US started the Iraq war just for Iraqi oil, which is in my estimation a very shallow interpretation of that war, just as it would be to say that Putin has called for the invasion of Ukraine because they have natural resources.

Gorbachev is 91, he doesn't have Twitter and I doubt Russian state media would mention anything about it had he wanted to voice criticism about the invasion.


EDIT: Slight correction, he does seem to have a Twitter account but it was used the last time in April of 2020 (https://twitter.com/mgorbachev).

The cyrillic writing at the the rear of the tank says "Kazan". The writing on the gun probably says "Taganrog" (in Russian Таганрог). Taganrog is a port on the Sea of Azov 100km east of Mariupol. Maybe these dudes were stationed there?
