But if Putin’s endgame is to seize Kiev and declare checkmate on Zelensky, isn’t the best move (while humanly awful) on Zelensky part is to move the government out of Kiev to a city in the Western part of Ukraine and vow to never given in and force Russia to a longer and costlier war then they wanted?

Strategically, yes. However, the optics of the leader leaving the capital and what that tells everyone else look terrible.

As good a place as any to post, Russian Nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky reported yesterday to be in a hospital and really nad shape.
True but staying at Kiev and just staying their for it to fall and risk his own capture has also horrible optics to it

If Vaccinated Russian Bear could contain his giddiness about the invasion of a foreign country, this thread would be much more bearable....

Boy VRB there are definitely more vile trolls then you on this site but sometimes you really just suck as a person

The USA, or any country for that matter, should not go to war on the behalf of Ukraine.

Congrats, you are the exact type of person that the comic is mocking.

I oppose imperialism. And I’m proud of it.
Defending Ukraine sovereignty is not imperialism you tankie clown

US intel has reported that no ground troops have moved into Ukraine yet and is all bombings so any reports of cities falling is disinformation

I thought it was twitter propaganda but wow this seems to be going into Winter war 2.0 which would be impressive considering Ukraines terrain is much worse to defend than Finland.

Genuinely asking, can Ukraine actually win this thing? Or are they just gonna make sh*t suck for the VDV while still not being able to successfully hold back all of the mechanized battalions?
The latter unfortunately but this was supposed to be the easier part for Russia, if this part has been a bloody struggle then I don’t see how if and when an insurgency starts that Russia doesn’t crumble

Wait now I’m seeing on Twitter that Kadyrov just posted a video saying that they are “pulling out of Russia’s war”

Glad that now there will be talks.  Most things Putin has been demanding are reasonable in my view and Ukraine should try to meet him halfway on that.

What is not reasonable and I hope Putin drops are

a) Ukraine demilitarization (not even clear what that means, does it mean no Ukraine army or a Ukraine army with no weapons) - this is not a reasonable demand on a sovereign nation
b)  Zelensky has to go - this does not benefit Russia anyway.  Unless Putin wants to annex Ukraine whole (then why have talks at all) Putin will need someone on the Ukraine side to make the deal (which most in West Ukraine will be negative on) to make it stick.  Zelensky sounds like the man for the job.  For sure a Russian puppet cannot make the deal stick in Western Ukraine

At this point I don’t even get what Putin’s endgame can be here because there is no puppet government he can set up that won’t be isolated from the rest of the world and not see massive uprisings at home

TBH GoTfan through most of this conflict I was in the same mindset as you but now I’m actually having doubts Ukraine is actually gonna fall. The initial invasion stage as gone so bad for Russia I’m really having my doubts they will successfully pull off an invasion
