Will Canada ever have right wing govt again?

This is crazy

Trudeau’s stubborn appeal is frustrating

Opposition parties seem to founder for 9-15 years in Canada

Tonight is definitely shaping up to be a big win for aesthetically pleasing maps, especially the NDP seats.

In some early results from British Columbia, Skeena (a normally safe NDP riding) seems like the new Gatineau, with Tory star candidate and local tattoo artist Claire Rattee leading some PPC no-name 5 votes to 3 votes.

Calls for safe Tory seats in Alberta and Saskatchewan starting to come in.

You have to like the way the CBC makes its calls.  Not like the U.S. networks where they won't call SC for the Republicans or VT for the Democrats 3-4 hours after the polls have closed.

They must have data we don't, if even given their caution they were willing to make this call.

Nah, it's clear that Conservatives aren't making anywhere near the gains they need outside of Atlantic Canada.
I mean, I can see that, but doing it this early probably means they have data allowing them to say things with more certainty regardless.

1) AC shifting only ~+1-2% Tory on the whole seems to support the Lib Gov call, if obviously damaging to chances of a majority.
2) Fredricton back within 40 votes on Globe and Mail, gonna be tight down to the end.

Wonder if CPC's turn to the center on economic issues made it especially strong in the Maritime region.

CBC actually has the Cons projected as winning in more seats than the Libs right now. Wouldn't be surprised if the final seat count ends up as something like 140 LPC - 135 CPC.

Don't look now, but Annamie Paul is in 4th and CBC calls Conservatives to hold Beauce.

Pierre Poilievre returned in Carleton, per CBC.
A bit of good news for the Tories.

London-Fanshawe and Algoma, both in Ontario, are the first NDP calls. More generally the NDP seems to be doing decently well in Ontario, though they faded down the stretch in the Atlantics. Tories are doing really poorly in their GTA targets and only holding Thornhill by single digits.

Early BC results look to have May and Manly hold on to their seats.

Annamie Paul is in fourth. I doubt she will be leader after the election.

Conventional wisdom was that Mike Morrice would become leader if he won his seat (of Kitchener Centre); he's currently leading. Paul has pretty clearly been a disaster.

Trudeau wins in Papineau, where he currently has over a majority of the vote.
Of course this kind of call was always going to happen.

Global News reprimanding Trudeau and the Liberals for the waste of time and money that this election turned out to be when the results are basically the same seems so pointless. Why should the Liberals care? The Liberals get a few more years in government and the electorate just established that they won't punish them for it. So why do they bother?

Still early days, but the Tories are doing even worse in the 905 than in 2015.
