By the way, in the CONCACAF cup USA men's soccer advanced to the quarter-final by beating Martinique....

USA women's soccer is better than men's soccer here because many American men see soccer as not a "manly" sport, hence the reason why gridiron football and basketball are king in America.

https://www.espn.com/soccer/concacaf-gold-cup/story/4433479/united-states-dike-hoppe-show-theyre-ready-for-bigger-tests-after-gold-cup-stroll-vs-martinique

A lot of people want to see USA men to advance to World Cup in 2022--and in 2026, when America hosts the event, for them to be a main contender---with Christian Pulisic, it is possible.

What I'm saying is, is that the brand of hooligan that caused Heysel has fundementally changed in the UK, whereas that brand still exists, albeit more discrete in Italy.

It's interesting actually: Heysel was thirty six years ago, but still dominates the image of English football fans in quite a few places, even though the culture that led to it has been eradicated. The obvious discussion about hypocrisy aside, it does suggest a need for the more toxic elements of England fan culture to be treated seriously and dealt with harshly, because all of this isn't going to go away otherwise, as 'unfair' as being held to a palpably higher standard might well be.

*...and even though large matches are no longer played at stadiums as palpably dangerous as the old Heysel Stadium. Though if you think the state that ground was in was bad, do a deep-dive into the circumstances of the Bradford City stadium fire that same damned month...

U.S wins Group B in the Gold Cup with a 1-0 victory over Canada.

If Mexico beats El Salvador tonight in Group A action, they win that group, and we'd likely have a Mexico/U.S final.

Mexico just barely beat El Salvador, wins Group A.

They won't face the United States until the Finals, assuming both teams advance.

Given, the way the U.S played against Canada, I'm not 100% percent certain this particular team can beat Jamaica or Costa Rica in the Quarterfinals.

Then again, Mexico hasn't looked particularly great for most of the Gold Cup either.

We're a long weather delay in the Costa Rica/Jamaica game for the top slot in Group C.

Meanwhile, the Group D game between Honduras, and invited guests Qatar for the top spot in Group D should be interesting.

Qatar needs a win or draw to advance to the Quarterfinals, and a win by two or more goals would put them atop the group.

This is, of course, good preparation for Qatar ahead of the 2022 World Cup, which they will host.

Qatar's quest to become only the second side to win two confederation championships (after Australia) continues, as they beat El Salvador 3-2 in Glendale, Arizona.

Qatar being allowed to participate is atrocious.

Gold Cup Quarterfinals continue tonight as Canada has taken a 1-0 lead against Costa Rica in Quarterfinal play.

Yesterday, Qatar defeated El Salvador, and Mexico crushed Honduras.

Later tonight, the United States will face Jamaica.

Later this week, Mexico will face the Canada/Costa Rica winner, while Qatar will face the United States/Jamaica winner.

Canada gets a comfortable 2-0 win over Costa Rica, but they could be in trouble in their semifinal against Mexico, as Stephen Vitoria and Lucas Cavallini, two of their better players picked up more yellow cards, and will miss the semifinal due to the accumulation of yellow cards.

Watching the U.S/Jamaica game, and I'll be surprised if Jamaica doesn't pull the upset.

The Reggae Boyz are using some of their better Europe-based players in the Gold Cup, such as Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey, Fulham's Michael Hector and Bobby Decordova-Reid,
and Charleroi's Shamar Nicholson.

They also have what FOX Sports called in the match preview, the best goalie in North America, in the Philadelphia Union's Andre Blake playing.

Why hasn't any European Club side expressed any interest in Matt Turner yet?

He's playing out of his mind almost halfway through against a pretty strong Jamaica attack.

Excellent goalkeeping in Tonight's USA/Jamaica game.

If any European club out there is watching this game, they should take a look at Matt Turner (USA) and Andre Blake (Jamaica).

If all there is to say is "excellent goalkeeping", the match is pretty sh**t and I'm glad I'm not wasting my time watching that garbage tournament.

USA just took a 1-0 lead behind a really nice header from Matthew Hoppe.

Just five minutes and stoppage time, and the U.S will be in the semifinals, where a date with Qatar awaits.

Qatar's quest to become a two-confederation Champion has come to an end, as the United States defeated them tonight, 1-0, behind a late goal from Gyasi Zardes.

The other semifinal, Mexico vs Canada, is starting now.

Mexico vs Canada looks like it'll go to extra time.

We're currently 1-1 in extra time.

Winner plays the United States in the final.

Hector Hererra may just be Mexico's savior this Gold Cup.

His stoppage time/extra time goal has given El Tri a 2-1 victory against Canada, and a very lucky escape.

El Tri will face the United States in the final on Sunday Night.

Scoreless so far in the Gold Cup Final.

Mexico needs this win to save Tata Martino's job.

For the United States, a win would be nice, but making it to the World Cup in qualifying (which begins soon) is more important.

Lots of missed chances in the Gold Cup Final.

I'm surprised this one's still scoreless through 65 minutes.

Just wow.

The U.S just got an extra time goal in the Gold Cup final to go up 1-0 against Mexico.

The United States defeats Mexico, 1-0 in Extra Time, and claims the Gold Cup.

For all the worries that a side without Christian Pulisic and Giovanni Reyna wouldn't be able to compete, America has put that to rest, and taken Mexico down again!

USA is an incredibly dirty, classless team. Fitting that their only goal was scored by a dude who looks like f***ing Beaker off the Muppets, from a free kick that probably shouldn't have even been given.
