Both parties are incredibly lucky that their opposition is as incompetent as they are.

Thank you!

In addition, I publicly call on the rest of the candidates running for House to join me in a debate on the issues. A debate is what Atlasians need to hear, as most candidates are not running campaigns or have presented points as to why they should be the choice of Atlasians. It is only fair that Atlasia can hear where we all stand.

No.  None of us are good enough to get into heaven, so salvation can't be based on our own works.  Luckily, Jesus Christ did all the work for us on the cross, and if we simply repent and put our trust in him alone, we will be saved.  Grace means unmerited favor, so yes, none of us deserve it, and that's the point.

My god people, it's miners, not minors... granted Blankenship probably had minor miners.

All these """people""" that believe that lower middle class rural conservative cishet whites are the only ones that matter need to shut the f**k up forever.
It's possible to legitimately care about everyone without pandering.

As if the op is suggesting anything like that(and no, paying significant attention to non white cishet issues is not "pandering"."
The Democratic Party (as a whole, some individual politicians have made good efforts) is hypocritically pathetic in its efforts to appeal to a large group of people - especially poor blacks and poor whites - saying one thing (pandering) but doing barely anything to improve whatever the problem is.

Most of the GOP wishes minorities vote at lower levels than their share of the population.  They just don't want to be caught working for it.

I believe that Blacks and Hispanics would vote Republican in greater numbers than they do now if the GOP dropped these Voter ID initiatives.  The motivation is clear.  There are many black voters who would vote Republican to the point where the GOP could net 15-20 percent of the black vote IF the National GOP didn't attempt to fill the void of the Dixiecrats of old and take it national.  Trump could have, and should have, called for the GOP to end these initiatives, but I suppose he's not that visionary.  It's not his first missed opportunity.

Blacks view voting rights as an existential issue, and rightly so.  That the GOP won't acknowledge this is part of what drives bloc voting by blacks, and what drives the identity politics that I consider to be a long-term threat to the kind of democracy we have today.

Bit too high, needs to be cut. However, America should make sure it's spending enough to remain the world's military hegemon.

Kander is pretty progressive.

So is Bullock.

Being from red states /= being conservative (especially in more flexible states like MT).

None. the boring lamestream corporate trash that comes out of Hollywood is of no interest to sophisticated folk like me.

It's creepy that you are sounding like me.

Pretty sure my presence in the atlas is gonna make everyone more stingy about what we post and more visibly elitist in taste.

You've only made 45 posts. Tongue

The joke wasn't in the best taste, but a boycott? Come on. Do we have to get offended at everything today?

The first map is the 2011 WV special gubernatorial election, and the second is the 2012 regular election. Two counties gave Tomblin >80% in the 2011 election, and his home county (Logan) voted >90% for him. While Tomblin won more counties in the 2012 regular election, and got a higher % of the vote, he received a much smaller percentage in Logan County and surrounding counties. Why was this, and did Obama have something to do with it?

I support municiapalism, given that localities can often be more democratic in their decision-making; but I'm less sure about "counties" given that most American counties are arbitrarily drawn and elected via stupid ways (e.g. bloc voting or with a heavy focus on executive figures over a representational legislative body)
County legislatures can be even more hideously gerrymandered than state ones. Sometimes a powerful at-large elected official is more representative of a county than the county legislature.

that's why I support STV at all levels of American government - federal, state and all layers of local government.
STV can be a good alternative to FPTP. I am a fan of preferential voting.

Really? Capped at two?
I sometimes do it on a Windows PC, sometimes on a Linux computer, and sometime on an Android phone/tablet.

Even an intervention from God Himself calling Romney a heathen and asking Utah to vote against him couldn't stop him.

Titanium R doesn't give it justice, but it's the best I got.

I like them, but this is also my favorite contemporary political portrait, so perhaps I'm just unfairly inclined to anything untraditional:
