Congratulations GeorgiaModerate on winning two years in a row!!!!

I didn't win last year; I was a game behind going into the championship (exactly the reverse of this year -- I had a 6-game deficit and made up 5).  Donerail picked Georgia, so I had to pick Alabama to have a chance to tie even though I expected UGA to win.  But I was more than happy to lose on that one. Bobby Petrino is up to his old tricks. Mere weeks after agreeing to be UNLV's offensive coordinator, he's now agreed to take the same position at Texas A&M.

I seem to have underestimated both teams. At least their offenses.

I really didn't think they would cover. They've had spotty games where it takes time to get going. But they didn't bring their B game in this trip. Goodness gracious. There were two TDs after I turned it off.

Thank goodness Ohio State cratered. That would be a lot harder to deal with than an UGA repeat. But this Dawg Dynasty is not going to be much fun. Can still get better.

Oh look they mixed up the Mississippi schools again Roll Eyes

Does this ever happen to a pair of P5 schools in any other state? It is the general impression of most Mississippians that it does not, it's just us.

Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee all played in New Year's Six games against teams ranked in the top ten.  They all won their final games by a combined score of 141-41.  They were the best three teams in the country.  There's no rule that the best three teams can't have all been from the same conference.  The expanded playoff is so needed.  When two of the top three (or at least top 4 with Ohio State) teams in the country never got a chance to prove themselves, you know it's broken.

Tennessee would have been in the top 4 in Ohio State's place if they hadn't screwed up and lost to South Carolina.

Alabama would have been in the top 4 in Alabama's place if they hadn't screwed up and lost to LSU.

I 100% support an expanded playoff (in fact, I think it should be 24 to give basically every P5 program hope that they can get in and make a run, and allowing an autobid for every G5 conference to give those teams something to play for too), but under the 4-team model, there's just no way that any other team could have gotten in with the way the season played out.

*** FINAL PICK'EM RESULTS ***

After a tight contest most of the season, I eked out a win in this year's pick'em.  The following people correctly picked Georgia in the championship game:

Dereich
Donerail
ExtremeR
GeorgiaModerate
Grumps
JGibson
NY Express

This made the final standings (377 games picked):

244 GeorgiaModerate
242 Illiniwek
240 Dereich
233 ExtremeRepublican, Terry
231 Donerail
229 Harry
214 Grumps
211 NY Express
210 JGibson
144 ultraviolet
117 CalamityBlue
86 Thomas D
54 Storr
37 Ishan
12 Orwell

In the weekly picks, Dereich won or shared first four times to my three, while ER, Harry, Illiniwek, and NYE did it twice.  The best performance in a regular season week was Harry at 21-4 (.840) in week 3, followed by Illiniwek and me at 20-5 (.800) the same week (it was a very chalky week).  Honorable mention also goes to Dereich for an impressive 11-1 (.917) during championship week, but that was a much smaller set of games.

Thanks to everyone for playing!  We'll be back next season.

Congrats on the win, and thank you for running the contest this season. Its an Atlas tradition unlike any other. Looking forward to another spirited run next season. All the best!

12 teams is bad enough but c'mon...24!?  Scraping that far down into the barrel gets too messy.  How do you justify picking some 3-loss teams over others?  More teams realistically on the bubble only creates more unhappy fanbases and more calls for further expansion.  And for what?  We just saw the "No. 2" team in the country get blown-out in spectacular fashion.  There's too much separation in college football for a 12-team playoff to even be fun to watch, much less competitive.
