The first AP Poll of the season is out, and there are some big differences from the Coaches Poll.

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Georgia
4. Clemson
5. Notre Dame
6. Texas A&M
7. Utah
8. Michigan
9.  Oklahoma
10. Baylor
11. Oregon
12. Oklahoma State
13. NC State
14. USC
15. Michigan State
16. Miami (FL)
17. Pittsburgh
18. Wisconsin
19. Arkansas
20. Kentucky
21. Ole Miss
22. Wake Forest
23. Cincinnati
24. Houston
25. BYU

Mississippi State gets no respect. We'll have to pay the iron price for it like we did in 2014.

If Vanderbilt loses tonight do they go 0-12?

Demography is destiny when it comes to Nebraska, who will never return to Elite status.

Not even I saw that type of a performance for Vandy coming.  Do I dare adjust my expectations to like 5-7?

Maybe? Elon makes 2, and Northern Illinois and Wake Forest were very good in their conferences last year, but won't have SEC talent.

Beyond that, it's definitely plausible that you could beat Ole Miss, South Carolina, or even Tennessee at home, so that's 7 winnable games.

I'm surprised y'all didn't schedule at 13th game though, some Sun Belt or MAC scrub (or like UMass or something) just to pad in an extra win, since anyone who plays at Hawaii is allowed to do that.

Something really odd going on tonight, as Akron is struggling to put away St. Francis (PA) of the FCS, leading 17-16 after three quarters despite being a 17 point favorite.

We really tried to warn everyone that Joe Moorhead just isn't a good head coach (great guy, great assistant, but bad head coach), but no one listened.

Great news, but they should implement it for this year or at least 2023 instead of waiting for 2024.

The Pac-12 is only 25% at getting a team into the CFP at all, so I wouldn't be surprised if they fail again this year. They really should be the biggest proponent of expanding to 12.

Florida leads #7 Utah 14-13 at halftime.

Also, it's still early, but we could have a very impressive upset on our hands here. #5 Notre Dame leads #2 Ohio State 10-7 late in the Second Quarter.

Shhh. That’s the kind of upset you’ll scare away if you talk about it.

Inshallah. Who ever wants Notre Dame to be good?

I repeat myself. The PAC-12's playoff chances are dead, and week one hasn't even ended yet.
USC still a thing, we'll see

Yeah, I mean it's not mathematically impossible, but I think we all know that no Pac-12 team is going to make the CFP.

They'll probably usually get a team in once they expand to 12, that is if the Pac-12 even still exists by then.

How many "big games" did Kelly win at Notre Dame? Just the one where Trevor Lawrence was out with COVID? I don't see a single impressive win over USC or Michigan, just mopping up some mediocre teams.

The expectation is that he'll win 1-2 "big games" per year at LSU. This will likely end very poorly.

Umm, is there something in the water in the SEC West?

On October 8, the Arkansas @ Mississippi State game will decide the winner of the West. (Hopefully not jinxing anything for the late game tonight.)

Nevada is losing at home to FCS Incarnate Word 31-17!

How did they let Colorado State poach their coach? I could understand a P5 school, but just another mid-level MWC team?

Texas Tech takes down #25 Houston 33-30, and the fans storm the field.

That's just embarrassing.

What on earth is wrong with the SEC West? San Jose State leads Auburn 10-7 at halftime.

Ominous. Pray that it doesn't extend into "Pac-12 After Dark."

Florida was probably drastically overranked.

They really shouldn't do any rankings at all until October. It's all just guessing early on, and primarily based on the "prestige" of the programs.

Damn, I was gonna pick Kansas and talked myself out of it at the last second. Lance Leipold is a great coach.

It's not over.  West Virginia just tied it with 35 seconds left.  But certainly a surprising performance from Kansas.

It's over. It ended a few minutes ago. A 55-42 overtime victory, which is the first time I've ever seen a team score twice in the same OT, but Kansas ran back a pick 6 after having scored in their half.

Whew! Mississippi State overcomes the #Pac12AfterDark magic and today's SEC West curse and leaves with a sloppy but solid 39-17 win ... that nobody saw because it ended after midnight Pacific time.
