My best friend and his wife are heading towards a divorce. It's a real shame, he had a severe bout of depression and went into the hospital and when he came out, his wife decided to leave him. Definitely weird seeing my friends start to get married, but its even weirder that one couple has already divorced.

Yesterday around CoB I had a very good conversation with an AmeriCorps staff member who served as a CED Peace Coros volunteer in Moldova about 10 years ago. I'm applying to the same country and field, and he previously worked as a recruiter, so the advice he gave me on my resume and personal statement should be very useful. I'm still waiting on a final call with another ex-PC staff member who also worked as PC staff, but I feel pretty confident about my app materials as-is, and we're like 46 days from the due date. It genuinely feels like, if I want this, my resume has been building toward it since early '21, and especially since I left the "real" job field in May of last year,

On the other hand, I'm aware that I'm away from home, will continue to be away from home for some time, and am falling behind my friends in terms of life milestones... but we all know that last part would be the same if I'f stayed in Michigan.

I only spent a couple hours there but it didn't feel particularly strange. I am not used to seeing minarets all around and women with a hijab who aren't visibly from a minority ethnicity, but otherwise the obvious economic difference with where I live was more impactful than the religious difference.

You get the alternation between Albanian Latin and Macedonian Cyrillic in much of North Macedonia as well. This is an incredibly interesting (but also sobering) country.

I am now in Albania! Earlier today I visited the Macedonian city of Ohrid and visited a mosque for the first time in my life (and saw an incredible amount of Turkish tourists). Almost as fascinating as the remote mountain villages of Mavrovo.

Yes, even if nowadays they seem to only use Latin so Crna Gora. Stunning scenery, worthy of the best part of the Italian coastline and some, but unfortunately much of it looks overdeveloped and Montecarlified (although Kotor which I just visited has been spared that - it is merely incredibly touristy).
