I have posted translations of mine from Quasimodo and Montale in the past. Here is a poem by Umberto Saba, La capra.

I spoke to a goat.
It was alone in the meadow, it was tied.
Sated with grass, soaked
in the rain, it bleated.

That unchanging bleat was fraternal
with my sorrow. And I answered, at first
in jest, then because pain is eternal,
has one voice and does not vary.
That voice I heard
moaning in a lonely goat.

In a goat with a Semitic face
I heard the complaint of every other evil,
every other life.

Beautiful poem and beautiful translation. I love Saba.

I'm visiting British Columbia and yesterday I was was in Nanaimo, had a Nanaimo bar there so I could say I did. Forgot I don't actually like stuff that's sickeningly sweet like that, didn't help that there was a mixup and I wasn't able to have coffee along with it. Enjoying the trip though and could definitely see myself living out here. Might abandon all my possessions to live in my friends' spare room for a few months if they'll have me, we'll see.

I'm legitimately undecided as to what I'll do in our upcoming primary election.  I'm not voting for Trump, but I am not really excited about Haley either (and don't think she's viable).  If she dramatically overperforms in SC, maybe I'd change my mind; but, realistically, I'm torn between three options:

-Still voting for DeSantis since he's still on the ballot.
-Voting for Ryan Binkley.  I know he's a no-name candidate, but he's technically still in the race, and I really like his platform and what he stands for.
-Writing in Mike Pence, who would be the best president we'll never have.

#4: Let the deadline pass and sit it out.

I'm doing this one, though I admit it wasn't on purpose.

In Tennessee, we actually vote for individual delegates separately from the presidential nominee, and I actually have a couple of friends running for delegate spots that I want to support.

Perhaps my place of residence is feeding upon my soul. Alternatively, that is not the case, but it is keeping me inside, and doing a damn good job of it.

If Trump wins he isn't my Prez, as long as Biden losing, the silver lining is I don't have to donate to his campaign and he is begging sending in Emails, used that Burmisia money

The reason why some NAACP chapters aren't doing much is that Biden is losing but we still have a campaign to win and I hope for the best

Just for record my negative on Biden has gone way up compared to Trump, he deserves to be criticized, all the polls that show him losing early on, he hasn't restructuring his campaign and Clyburn, whom endorsed Biden and interfered stepped down from leadership

To solid MD and WV are gone our hope is that we salvage FL, TX or NEB for our 50th seat and Powell is leading Scott on Facebook

Hogan is a Pro choice R, it's not totally gone but he  has 50/50 chance with Biden in WH and 60% chance if Trump gets elected

Everyone says Anthony Brown would beaten Hogan he didnt

Why do you think I put FL, TX and NEB on my S map we may lose MD and WV

I voted for DeSantis today in the Tennessee primary.  Trump shouldn't be our nominee, but Haley is too moderate for my liking.  I thought I might as well vote for someone I actually would like to be president.

I have ALLRED, Debbie Powell, Osbourne, Brown and Tester winning and Trone losing it's no joke Debbie Powell is leading by 1 on Facebook 44/43. ALLRED is tied with Cruz and Brown and Tester leading and Trone and Ds on WV losing by 23

Cornyn and Collins are the most vulnerable Rs up in a Biden midterm because they are the oldest and Busse obviously is gonna run against Daines since he is gonna lose to Gianforte

Also a note it's kind of funny Alsobrooks is down 23, in the Primary and Trone is losing by 23 to Hogan and Brown and Tester are winning

All the Atlasis has Alsobrooks winning the primary and GE no, Pittsburgh and Solid

Everyone doesn't know everything about politics even I don't I had MD Safe D and FL Safe R and had to change my ratings

I realize this isn't really the right thread to delve into this, but how exactly is Haley "moderate" in any way, shape, or form? She's a mainstream Republican whose claim to fame is that she'd enact Trump's policies without bringing Trump's craziness and egomania to the White House. This whole characterization of Haley as some reasonable, open-minded moderate really bothers me. If she was at all "moderate" Trump never would've appointed her to the UN.

Biden beat the uncommitted votes the story is that Riverwalk being excited over Trump polls is premature, I guess it's Teflon Biden

Every time you think Biden is gonna lose he ends up coming back and it was Katrina and Sandy that elected and reelected Obama and Biden

There is a Trump bias in all these polls

Well where to start:

It's been a rough year.  I've been laid off for six months.  Four months ago if someone told me I would still be in this situation now I would have laughed in their face.  I used to have so much confidence in my ability to get a job if hard times hit me.  Now?  I'm not so sure anymore.  There are a lot of times over the past month that I've started wondering if I chose the wrong profession and the wrong career.  I seem to be okay with numbers but I feel like all I'm doing in every interview I've had (and I've had many) is striking out.  I have ten good years of experience, I advanced up the corporate ladder, but when I think about going back into my field I am not really that excited about actually doing the work but what pay and benefits I would get.

I am not in a hopeless situation.  But I am lost.  There are several fields that I find interesting that I believe I would be a good fit for versus what I'm doing now.  I've always felt like my personality doesn't mesh well with the corporate world and I'd be better suited to a more laid back kind of work.  For the first time in my life I'm writing in a journal about every other day and have been using a separate notebook to brainstorm various career/lifestyle ideas.  Right now I'm just thankful I have a place to call home and a strong support network.  I've also gone cannabis free for about five days (feels like an eternity) and that seems to help massively with the depression I've been feeling (I have been taking some CBD to deal with the anxiety and stomach pain).  I find that daily exercise (about 100 jumping jacks, 60 pushups, and a couple hours of walking) seems to help with the endorphins.  Since moving to Las Vegas in late October I've felt rejuvenated a bit and the amount of recreational trails and parks around really helps with that. (I'll post some pictures later)

Merry Christmas Atlas and hopefully a Happy New Year.

I recently got a job on a casino count room team.  Pay is a bit less than I used to make (there is opportunity for overtime though) but the work is fun and I like my coworkers a lot.  Living with a parent right now so I don't have a lot of living expenses.  Not sure if I want to go back into Accounting, I guess I'm at the point where I feel like taking an extended break or taking a "reset" on life.

One day at a time.

I've bee working in Oakland in my final AmeriCorps placement since mid-January and it's been a blast. As a Team Leader without a team, I have no supervisory responsibilities and instead hang out and socialize with a team at the same placement. Accomplishments since getting here include getting multiple job offers and people asking me to interview, watching Dune Part II twice, being known by name by the bartender at a local watering hole in Alameda, going on a bunch of local hikes, filling in as Acting TL for a week, and going to Pinnacles National Park with the team during that time. Definitely a redemption arc compared to the dismal June-January experience I had. Today we hiked around Mt Tamalpais and grabbed linner at a Persian-owned(?) kebab place.

That will be ending, not only because our service term is coming to a close, but also because I am flying out to Kansas City this week to lead a team back to campus for graduation, as their TL just quit. This is the worst remaining team, so this will be an experience.

However, after this term is over, it looks like I'll be headed back to Oakland for a permanent position.

anybody have any recommendations on interesting stuff to do if im gonna be in the ventura/santa barbara area for a few days, any cool nature especially

Wish I did. I'm farther north.
