NBC shows a lot of election day ballots still need to be counted in several counties, and that early/mail  ins were counted first.  While the remaining ballots are in heavily Dem areas, the margin is still super close and the election day ballots skew Republican.  That probably explains why this race still hasn't been called by any major networks..

Eh, they can pretty much just go ahead and call it.

The only counties that have any substantial election day voters are all blue areas. Early votes may have been counted first, but not all mail-ins were. We just got a bunch of Mercer's today, still waiting on Morris's. Plus, it looks like any VBMs that came in on Tuesday have not been counted yet (there was 45K of them)

Bergen, for example still has 4K VBMs to count

I wonder whether Ciattarelli would be a strong contender for 2025, given how close he came (assuming Murphy wins). Especially if a Democrat continues to reside in the White House.

Yeah, maybe we can actually beat this guy in 2023 and take back the seat with someone better.

Until then he is our Don Blankenship pretty much.

Question, say Sweeney loses - does that make this election cycle a big win for Murphy by default, even if he only narrowly won re-election?
(It's not like D legislative majorities seem to be under threat after all)

The $153 he spent on his campaign well spent.

Durr said he entered the race after being denied a concealed carry permit despite having a clean record. State campaign finance records show a slate of candidates including Durr raised more than $10,000 during their campaign but spent only $153: $66.64 at Dunkin to buy food and drinks for staff and $86.67 for paper flyers and business cards.

Dems may be looking at a 44-36 majority in the assembly and only a 22-18 majority in the senate.

Extremely worrisome for 2025.

This election has nearly destroyed the South Jersey Norcross machine in one fell swoop. Sweeney is gone, and Democrats look toxic to South Jersey bar the immediate Camden area and AC. Norcross' brother and Van Drew are still in Congress, but the next person to represent NJ-02 will not be a Norcross protégé.

I wonder how much of the collapse was caused by the strained relationship between Norcross and Murphy. Perhaps Norcross didn't turn out those Dem votes for Murphy like he usually would, expecting for his candidates to be fine, but in the end he paid the price as well.

Just a startling result; it might be a new era of NJ state politics.

So he doesn't turn into the Democratic Rick Scott.
