Ed Orgeron is the most wronged coach in history. He earned the USC job and they didn't give it to him. He bestowed Baton Rouge with the most dominant season in sports history in precisely his 4th year at the helm, and this is how he gets treated. I look back at that sixth season with 'if only he had beaten Arkansas in OT and not blown a nine point 4th quarter lead to Auburn' eyes. I honestly don't know if 8-4 with a close loss to Bama would have been enough for these people. He was probably a dead man walking after the defensive performance against UCLA. But how shameful is it that the upgrade is Brian Kelly, the most mediocre coach of our era, who Marcus Freeman will surely outperform at Notre Dame. A 1 point loss to this Florida State team (which was really worse than just a point) is a heckuva lot worse than an 11 point loss to UCLA.

Glad Coach O is enjoying his millions, but I wish he were still gracing the sidelines each week and inspiring the youth over this bum whose most charismatic line was that he wanted to execute them. LSU is going to flop around in mediocrity in the toughest division in the sport for nearly the rest of this decade.

How many "big games" did Kelly win at Notre Dame? Just the one where Trevor Lawrence was out with COVID? I don't see a single impressive win over USC or Michigan, just mopping up some mediocre teams.

The expectation is that he'll win 1-2 "big games" per year at LSU. This will likely end very poorly.

2011 vs. no. 15 MSU (MSU finished 11-3)
2012 @ no. 8 Oklahoma (OU finished 10-3 and won a share of the Big 12)
2013 vs. MSU (MSU finished no. 3, won the Big Ten and was 13-1 overall this one was BS bc PI was not called fairly)
2013 neutral ASU (Won the PAC-12 south, finished 10-4)
2014 vs no. 14 Stanford
2015 vs. no. 14 Georgia Tech
2017 vs no. 11 USC (Finished 11-3, won the PAC-12)
2018 vs. no. 14 Michigan (Finished 10-3 ranked no. 14)
2018 neutral no. 12 Syracuse (Finished 10-3 ranked no. 15)
2020 vs. no. 1 Clemson (Tlaw was out)
2020 @ North Carolina (Finished ranked no. 25)

I'd say most of these games were impressive wins. I won't accept ur erasure of his back-to-back (Division II) National Championships at GVSU though and 3 straight championship game appearances which led to 4 titles in 5 years, (02, 03, 05, 06)

I should probably point out that at first glance next week doesn't look great either, schedule wise.

Miami (FL)/Texas A&M is far and away the best game on the schedule.

Week 2

Friday, September 9th

Louisville @ UCF 7:30 PM EDT ESPN2

Louisville looked really bad against Syracuse last week. UCF was invited to the Big 12 for a reason, they're not your average G5 team.

Saturday, September 10th

#1 Alabama @ Texas Noon EDT FOX

Is Texas back yet? lmao.

South Carolina @ #19 Arkansas Noon EDT ESPN

Missouri @ Kansas State Noon EDT ESPN2

Duke @ Northwestern Noon EDT FS1

Zzzzz.......

UTSA @ Army Noon EDT CBSSN

Western Michigan @ Ball State 2 PM EDT ESPN+

I for one, am glad MACtion is back.

Tennessee @ #17 Pittsburgh 3:30 PM EDT ABC

I'm tired of Pitt being overrated and having to watch Pat Narduzzi be an obnoxious asshole on television.

Washington State @ #18 Wisconsin 3:30 PM EDT FOX

Colorado @ Air Force 3:30 PM EDT CBS

Memphis @ Navy 3:30 PM EDT CBSSN

Navy is baaaad this year.

#24 Houston @ Texas Tech 4 PM EDT FS1

Houston almost lost to UTSA last week at home.

Iowa State @ Iowa 4 PM EDT BTN

Can Iowa's offense do literally anything?

Virginia @ Illinois 4 PM EDT ESPNU

I wouldn't be shocked if Virginia won, but I want them to be bad.

Kansas @ West Virginia 6 PM EDT ESPN+

Old Dominion @ East Carolina 6 PM EDT ESPN+

UAB @ Liberty 6 PM EDT ESPN+

#20 Kentucky @ Florida 7 PM EDT ESPN

Feels like Florida should do well at home.

Arizona State @ #12 Oklahoma State 7:30 PM EDT ESPN2

#14 USC @ Stanford 7:30 PM EDT ABC

Boston College @ Virginia Tech 8 PM EDT ACCN

As a UNC fan and student, Tech's new coach gives me serious Larry Fedora vibes. But they should win tomorrow:

New Mexico State @ UTEP 9 PM EDT ESPN+

BATTLE OF I-10 LFG!!!

#10 Baylor @ #25 BYU 10:15 PM EDT ESPN

Oregon State @ Fresno State 10:30 PM EDT CBSSN

OSU looked good against Boise St., another Mountain West team, last week.

Mississippi State @ Arizona 11 PM EDT FS1

Going with Arizona for the time zone factor.

Penn State-Auburn and BYU-Oregon are potentially better. Miss St-LSU, Mich St-Washington. Oklahoma-Nebraska and FSU-Louisville are potentially intriguing, Fresno-USC might be closer than expected (Fresno is punchy), and the slim chance of a UTSA-Texas upset. Not a perfectly full platter but not a bad week.

Louisville less than ten minutes away from a modest upset, as they lead UCF 20-14.

In tonight's other game (not on the pick'em), Boise State is off to a good start, leading New Mexico 10-0 at halftime.

Boise State entered that game as seventeen point favorites.

The old UCF, back when Scott Frost was coaching the team, would have beaten Louisville on their way to claiming a National Title.

We've got a couple of plausible upsets right now.

First, #1 Alabama and Texas are tied at 10 right now, late in the second quarter. Remember, Alabama entered this game as 21.5 point favorites.

Also, Duke leads Northwestern 21-7 late in the second quarter. Northwestern entered this game as 10 point favorites.

Texas leads Alabama 13-10 with 6 minutes left in the third quarter, and really it should be by more.
