A few reactions:

1) Everybody please stop criticizing the Supreme Court for making an “unpopular” ruling. You can agree or disagree with the constitutionality of the ruling, but it is absolutely not their job to make popular rulings, it is to interpret the constitution as they see it.

2) This is a major setback and the amount of pro-choice republicans is honestly surprising. The future of the pro-life movement looks like it will need to be a combination of referendums like these, along with charity work and legislating with democrats to establish extremely liberal entitlements for mothers in order to voluntarily reduce the number of abortions. This is something that should have been happening already

3) These referendums, while the outcome is not always favorable, are part of democracy and may be helpful in lowering the temperature. The R candidates will need to learn to navigate this and some may be assisted by the issue decreasing in salience

In slightly unrelated news: Manchin and Sinema seen talking to Schumer on the Senate floor.

Fellas... I think Sleepy Joe is finally waking up, just in time for the midterms!

Not to mention we got Ayman al-Zawahiri too! A bad week for religious extremists at home and abroad!

If I may modestly counter-doom OSR, I think this is less a sign of Democratic enthusiasm (although that is certainly a factor) and more a sign that a lot of would-be mainstream Republican voters are willing to vote for abortion rights when control over things like the presidency and Congress are not being decided by the vote.

I mean this failing means even a 12 week ban can’t pass

The Kansas state constitutional right to abortion is probably the closest we have to a Roe-VS-Wade law/precedent/whatever at a state level.

The results here should tell people how unpopular overturning Roe was nationally.

I'd be very curious to see how Wyoming breaks in Kent County. The town has a lot in common with Ottowa County and is more working class than most GR suburbs

Kunce is hanging tough in Missouri. Not really notable now that Greitens is gone, but impressed by him.

Hoping for a Meijer victory tonight too, he's getting close.

Pls no. Gibbs sucks, but even if he wins, he's just one representative among hundreds in the House, and has a timer at that; no way he survives even 2024. If Meijer gets renominated he could be extremely annoying to dislodge.

No, we’re allowed to have an opinion and voice it about any and all of their rulings, especially one that took away a fundamental right for women throughout the country. Especially because that ruling was political in nature.

Well, I hope you enjoyed VA-2021 Republicans. It was fun while it lasted. Every other election night for you since 2016 has pretty much been a massive L.

Can you please be nicer? There’s no need to call names or taunt anybody

Can you please be nicer? There's no need to deny 10-year old rape victims abortions.

That’s just a stupid diversion from the point. All I’m saying is let’s analyze in peace, there’s no need to have so much anger

You can disagree with the ruling and can disagree with an admittedly political Supreme Court but my sole point is that it’s not their job to choose popular rulings. That’s completely outside the scope

Kobach's leading by 157 votes on CNN right now. Repeat of the 2018 Governor's primary?

There is reportedly a problem in Pinal County AZ with some precincts running out of ballots (both D and R) due to exceptionally high election day turnout.

The very consistent turnout increases we've seen in AZ over the past decade is absolutely insane. Since 2012 there has been over an 150% increase

I wanted to follow the live blog on RRH Elections tonight too like I usually do on election nights, but it keeps giving me a database error whenever I try to reach the site. Sad

Am i really more right wing on this issue than the average Kansas Republican. Like I really am stunned on this

If this turnout is even somewhat reflective of 2020's partisan makeup, then it's safe to say that you are to the right of at least 40% of Trump voters in Kansas.

Looking forward to Greitens losing every single county.

Sadly looks like he will steal a couple of bootheel counties.

Quote
Because Kansans value both women
and children, the constitution of the
state of Kansas does not require
government funding of abortion
and does not create or secure a
right to abortion. To the extent
permitted by the constitution of the
United States, the people, through
their elected state representatives
and state senators, may pass laws
regarding abortion, including, but
not limited to, laws that account
for circumstances of pregnancy
resulting from rape or incest, or
circumstances of necessity to save
the life of the mother
