It's Russian mobilization.

It seems like a pretty dumb decision by EU countries to deny Russian citizes visas right now.

Why would EU countries want a bunch of 5th columnists? They are only fleeing because the war is about to come to them, not because they weren't in favour of the war.

The non-crazies mostly left Russia already.

Yeah, people were pretty mad at Finland for not joining the Baltic states in blocking the land borders.  Although, to be fair, Finland is probably a little more equipped to deal with something like this than the Baltic states.

Meanwhile, the Russian world keeps turning

Basically all outgoing flights out of Russia today have been sold out, not surprising.

Navalny's team called the son of Kremlin spokesperson Dimitri Peskov pretending to be the military commissariat and he responds with that he'll "be solving this on another level".

A lot of revision and mindless "ASIATIC HORDES BEING SENT TO THE SLAUGHTER" which was a common German trope during WWII.

Ukraine has been in mobilization since the conflict started, and it has shown to be hugely effective. There has been no indication Russia can't do this yet, so spare your conclusion for the war already.

lol - Russia has been unable to properly supply or equip their smaller "professional force", so it stands to reason that they will not be able to supply or equip conscripts.

As for your Ukraine comment, it should be evident why a nation mobilizing for national defense would tend to be much more effective than a nation mobilizing for a foreign adventure.
Again, no basis for this. The small force as you put it, as far as I can see, has maintained a stable frontline from the edge of the Oskil river to the right bank of the Dniepr for half a year now, against a fully wartime Ukraine.. with the exception of Izium, and guess what, it's a war, there is a different outcome in every front - alas the collapse of Popasna/Lysychansk & Severodonetsk.

They are still capable even at this state to conduct offensive operations, with the recent example going on in Bakhmut and around Donetsk.

Individual videos of HIMARS strikes and a couple of dead RU soldiers don't show the larger picture.

Should have guaranteed NATO membership from the beginning instead of constantly dangling it in front their face & pussyfooting. If they didn't have any plan for quick inclusion of Ukraine, then they should have just left the country alone, instead of trying for a quasi-standoff with Russia.

To be fair, hard to argue with this.

Good news Russian bankers:

Not really surprising because they will receive contract soldier salaries, which are far higher than the overall average of their respective regions.

Still, I don't expect to see many people from West Russia rushing to be enlisted.

Just curious, has anyone seen a good article outlining how Lend-Lease will be used once it goes into effect Oct 1st?

"The list includes American, British, Croatian, Moroccan and Swedish nationals, the ministry said in a statement"

Alex Drueke and Andy Huynh are the two Americans publicly known to have been captured in Ukraine.

This article mentions the two Americans. So out of the ten, that means there were 5 Britons, 2 Americans, a Croatian, Moroccan, and a Swede.

I can't be the only one thinking mobilization will actually hinder the Russian war effort more than it helps, right? Aside from the obvious logistical problems and the fact that this will likely gum up the works of the Russian military even further, it will be much harder for Russian civilians to remain passively neutral on the war effort if they or their family members/friends find themselves drafted. Even if this gives Russia a greater edge in soldiers, I remain unconvinced that it will be worth the significant risk of domestic blowback.

The idea that everyone opposed to war already left Russia and anyone who would like to leave now must be a fifth columnist is really something.
