As usual, DDHQ is first with the call.

Not going to post any more updates from the >95% in counties (which happen to be Republican counties, much to the dismay of my friend Forumlurker), but it’s looking like a slight rightward swing from Jan. 2021 and extremely close to the Nov. 2022 margins. Turnout is pretty solid as well. Probably not enough for Walker, but points to a close race unless Walker collapses in the urban & suburban areas.

At least wait for more election day vote before calling it.

It's important to note, as Wasserman does himself, that that tweet does not represent an official call by any TV network (and not one by DDNN either).
Personally, I don't believe in calling a race for one candidate when the other candidate is leading or may gain a lead.
Say 96% of the vote is in in TN and the Dem is behind 4,000 votes. There are an estimated 100,000 votes outstanding, about 90% of them in Shelby County. Polling hours were extended and that is the cause for the delay. Are you willing to call it for the Democrat? Yes or no.

Georgia is a lean D state now, no way Republicans can ever recover in Georgia from this monumental loss, and it’s going to drift that way with no end in sight.

What should we drink tonight?

I, for one, am going to slightly modify the goal of relative temperance I made at the start of the night. One more Captain Pepper to Blue Georgia!

I would wait until they actually took the lead, and I suspect the TV networks would do the same.

I went from "What if it's called within an hour?" to "Oh god I'm gonna be up all night" to "Hey, it's only been like two and a half hours before it was called, not bad for a modern election." Overall 9/10 election night. Not as good as November simply because it's not an overperformance, but still very satisfying in the end.

And I thought I was cautious about calling races...

"Atlanta is the cultural leader of the United States." - Rachel Maddow

Um... I mean it's a great city and all but New York still exists among other things.

If she said 'Atlanta is the cultural leader of the South', I'd absolutely agree.

Georgia is called "Empire State of the South" for a reason.

Walker improving on his margins from November in many rural counties yet being on track to lose by nearly 3x his November statewide margin really tells you everything you need to know about this state (and the nation as a whole sans Florida, honestly).

MSNBC has come a long way from November 2020 when Biden took the lead in Georgia and they were all "That's neat but all we care about right now is Pennsylvania"

If the final result is indeed around Warnock+3, then the polls in Georgia will once again have been incredibly good.

Only 7 counties are under 70% reporting. Three of them are Fulton, DeKalb and Cobb. Two more are tiny rurals.

It's time to call this.

Still a pretty close race even though Warnock will obviously win, so not sure if this was supposed to be an "own" or whatever. Also note the "Probably not enough for Walker" part.

I will also note that Walker held his own in some of the northern exurbs (Hall, Jackson), not just the rurals.
