I think May was "peak mask", just like how April was "peak lockdown."

The rapid, V-shape recovery is here.  Hard to see unemployment above 8% by November (which is what it was in 2012).

I doubt it recovers that quickly, especially since the report says unemployment would be at 16% but 3% were misclassified. Also, 2012 saw the economy recovering in Obama's term vs 2020 where the economy got worse under Trump. Not comparable.

If Trump can tout +1M new jobs every month until November, it's going to be a net electoral benefit to him.  This is the scenario Obama and other top Democrats are the most concerned about.

They're not new jobs though. You can't go from 3% unemployment to 16% unemployment in a month and then gloat about the proceeding recovery the next month.

Btw whats the other Western country employment numbers? I would say that is the best metric to compare too.

In the meantime, mask orders continue to spread, although their speed has declined somewhat in recent weeks. In Colorado, Governor Polis issued an order yesterday allowing businesses to deny service to customers who do not wear masks: https://gazette.com/news/no-mask-no-service-polis-order-gives-business-owners-right-of-refusal/article_9c5bd300-a697-11ea-adf6-53f2e7c59fb5.html. Now, this isn't a full-blown mask mandate, in contrast to what other Governors-primarily in the Northeast and Midwest-have imposed. But it's a step in that direction. How sustainable are these orders going to be when it gets very hot?
The order should require prominent signage so persons can know before they get out of their car that masks are required. It also does not state the means of removal.

"Our Masks are Our Passport to the Colorado We Love"

How about

"Work Will Set You Free"

"Thank You Dear Comrade Polis for a Happy Childhood!"

Don't be dumb.

And sure. I'm fine with people having to post up notices for people that they need masks on to go into a place. They should have to comply with similar other conspicuous notices rules if they are unable to complete other legal and reasonable transactions based on any other sincere attribute or personal need that they have that makes them unable to fulfill those transactions.

There should be signs on the door of their establishment saying
"Because of COVID-19, we only allow entry to do those with the proper protective gear"
or
"Due to my health, I am unable to allow even service animals into my store"
or
"Due to theological concerns, prescriptions that disrupt normal human reproduction will not be filled here."

Some states (Arizona, Texas, Michigan, Florida, California) are reporting some pretty scary numbers today.

Some states (Arizona, Texas, Michigan, Florida, California) are reporting some pretty scary numbers today.

Most of those (especially Michigan) just started counting probable cases with the certain cases.

Also, today was by far the biggest testing day yet (550,000 tests).

Good to know about Michigan.  Arizona and the others may be concerning though.  I read that the positive test rate has gone up sharply in AZ.

Utah might be concerning, but it turns out they just got hundreds of cases from a meatpacking plant there.

Some states (Arizona, Texas, Michigan, Florida, California) are reporting some pretty scary numbers today.

Only 20 of the 260 reported deaths today in Michigan are new.  The rest are earlier “probable” covid deaths that have been reclassified.

California continues to be a disaster considering how early and harshly they tried to crack down on the virus.

Latest US vs. European case and death graphs

England now accounts for about 60% of deaths across all five Euro countries.  Italy, Spain, France, and Germany are each down 90% or more from their peaks.

US deaths seem to be back to showing a slow but steady decline, suggesting the recent uptick may have just been an accounting fluke from Memorial Day weekend.

Today was knocked back down to 25,000, since they reassigned all those Michigan cases to the proper dates. So this is yet another day when the positive rate was under 5%.

The deaths seem to be slowing....but was the jump in cases the result from the protests?

Today was by far the biggest testing day ever, and Michigan decided to count a backlog of probable cases.

The jump will happen much later, probably sometime between June 12-17, but when it hits, it will be noticeable and this thread will come back to life.

"Colorado Above All"

Don't be dumb.
