Yesh Atid just split. Bibi can now go to a fourth election and get 65 mandates and even immunity.

The worst thing is that Hosen MKs KNOW this option isn’t the best for the country, so who are they working for? Not the Israeli people.

Career politicians are the scum of the earth.

Happy a unity government with a large majority and broad Knesset support across the aisle - from Labour to the National Union - is being formed in these trying times.

Sad that Lieberman, Lapid and Meretz think shopping on shabbat is preferable to having a broad unity government in times of a pandemic and with a recession on its way. Happy Gantz made the right call and Israel can move on.

The entirety of the right-wing bloc with 1 centrist party thrown in willy nilly is not a unity government. A unity government would have been B&W, Likud and maybe YB.

Update on ministry speculations:
Finance Ministry is likely to go to Katz (even though Bibi promised it to Barkat- oops!), Education was apparently offered to Bennet (he's denying), Nissankorn is the leading candidate for Justice but trooper might get it.

The pandemic changes nothing; it's just a giant excuse. All potential governments would've roughly done the same, limiting people's movement & hoping for the best.

What matters is how the government will act over the next 10 years, & Gantz just gave his seal of approval to Bibi. Some unity government this is, with the same right-wing bloc in power.

I truly don't understand what his game plan is; he just told any possible center-right voter that "Bibi is better than me; it's okay for him to be Prime Minister." He won't get any votes from them, & now he won't be getting any votes from the left either.

Happy to have foreigners feel so enthusiastic about our pandemic management being overseen health minister who doesn't actually have a college degree much less an MD.

But at least nobody will face the real scourge of people buying bread on Saturdays.

Inside Hosen, according to Tal Schneider:
Nissankorn didn't like the move, supported Meir Cohen to the end
MKs Yizhar Shai, Shuster and Mreeh don't like joining Netanyahu
Trooper, Farkash-HaCohen, Biton and Zamir pushed for unity

They probably won't (and shouldn't at this point, if we're going on that road Gantz should at least have some degree of influence on that awful right wing government).

It's a very costly move in terms of their ability to run in the next election. Same with Hsndel amd Hauser, who are not part of Hosen.

Miri Regev when supporting Gantz for Speaker: "yes, do you think I can say no to my neighbour?"

Other updates: Hendel, Hauser and Orly Levy voted for Speaker Gantz, Amir Peretz (who's receiving offers to be Agriculture Minister) said he was abstaining (like his fellow Merav Michaeli).

So how many left-wing jews vote for Joint List because of this? Aren't they the actual opposition. I don't understand how you can have the Arabs, Meretz and Liberman and manage to screw this up.

It's likely due to the opposition of Hauser and Handel, which backed him into a corner. I think Gantz figured taking the Justice ministry now was better than another election and Bibi maybe getting a majority.

So basically, Gantz has handed Netanyahu the win that he failed to get for three elections in a row?

I can't imagine this government lasting more than a year, so we'll be back at this soon. I expect Liberman to run with Yesh Telem, Meretz to join the Joint List (and get 20 seats, and Labor to run alone. I actually don't think the odds are bad at all for the left+Gantz to get a majority. But that's a ways off and who really knows what is left of the country at that point.

I'm 90% sure that Parrotguy will vote for the Joint List next election and why can't the sane Israeli left join in a Alliance.

Would Labor running alone actually break threshold?

With the tactical pressure to vote Gantz gone, they presumably would without much difficulty.

Incidentally, and also under the cover of The Virus, similar absurdities are unfolding in Ireland. Which proves the 'country beginning with the letter i' rule, not that it really needed proving.
